Meals

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.

Accommodation

We will be staying in Hotel Thamel or Thamel Eco Resort or Similar in Kathmandu, Kuti Resort in Pokhara and the best available teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 500. Please understand that since you will be trekking in remote regions, the services in the teahouses will be basic. We will try our best to arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places do not have attached bathrooms.

      After landing at the Tribhuwan International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative of Oriental Journeys who will drop you off at our hotel. After checking-in at the hotel, get freshen up and take a rest.  

      Overnight in Kathmandu.

      Pokhara, also known as The Lake City that oweslarge number of lakes, is the trek begining point. The fantastic restaurants serving varieties of food items will make your eveing enjoyable with magnificent mountain views. You might see high Himalayas including Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,794ft), Manaslu (8,156m/26,759ft), Machhapuchhre (6,993m/22,943ft), the five peaks of Annapurna and others in a clear weather. You may enjoy boating in the Fewa Lake and stroll in the cityโ€™s quaint streets. Overnight in Pokhara.

      The early morning flight to Jomsom is much interesting and thrilling. Jomsom and its surroundings are famous for its apples, strong winds and the baren landscape. The trek begins on an open trail alongside a beautiful valley. The trail then pass through the bank of Kaligandaki river. Now, a motorable road has been constructed so instead of following the traditional trail you can walk alongside the road. At he confluence of two rivers there is a religiously famous site of Kagbeni village. You will stay overnight at Kagbeni.

      You need to present your special permit at the check in counter at Kagbeni to begin your trek to Upper Mustang.  Your walk continues on sand amidst strong winds before ascending on a hill. On the way, a small village with narrow alleys called Tangbe Village welcomes you. The village owns white-washed houses, barley and buckwheat fields, and apple orchards. The hike continues and pass the other village and cross a river on our way. As a final steps of the day, you walk on a ridge before reaching Chele Village.

      Compared to the previous day, the trek enters to the tougher part. Crossing Taklam La pass (3,624m) and Dajori La pass (3,735) is relatively an adventure for the day. This section of the trail offers great views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang and Damodar Himal and pass by Ramchung Cave. The trail then descends further to reach Samar Village. The trail continues over the village and reaches a ridge. Descending through steep trail takes you to Syanboche in the evening. Overnight in Syanboche.

      Ascending to the Yamda La pass at 3,850m is major part of the todayโ€™s trek. You will encounter wiht  a few teahouses, chortens and beautiful villages on the way. You will pass the popular forests and barley fields to reach Nyi Pass at 4,010m. The trail decends to Ghami,one of the biggest villages in the Lo region. Ghami is a beautiful village with fields surrounding the entire village.

      The trek from Ghami to Tsarang descend through a rough and often slippery trail. You will cross a suspension bridge over the Ghami Khola. The trail then begins to ascend. Mani walls installed along the trail beautifies the pathway. The trail then continues to cross Tsarang La Pass at 3870m before reaching Tsarang village. The Tsarang village situates atop the Charang Chu canyon with a huge fortress and a red gompa towards its east. Overnight in Tsarang.

      You continue the trek by descending to a canyon and cross a river before beginning a uphill trek to Lo La pass (3950m). Admire the beautiful Lo Manthang village from the top of the pass. You need to decend to reach the beautiful walled village of Lo Manthang. A wide view of the Himalayas including Nilgiri, Tilicho and Annapurna I, Bhrikuti Peak as well as Damodar Kunda (pond) allures you. Overnight in Lo-Manthang.

      Day 9: Explore Lo Manthang/ Acclimatization

      A walled town of Lo Manthang is a beautiful city. The city exploration program includes visit to the three major gompas of the town namely Jhampa, Thupchen and Chhoeda. Over the last two decades, all of these gompas have undergone expert restoration. Additionally, you can also trek to a beautiful village of Tingkhar located at the north-west of Lo-Mangthang. 

      Spend Overnight in Lo Manthang.

      Take a different route while returning back from Lo-Manthang. The trail passes through Gyakar village that houses a century old Ghar Gompa (Ghar Monastry) with beautiful rock paintings. A local legend tells, anyone who makes a wish at the Gompa will have it fulfilled. After a short exploration of the Gompa and continue our trek to Drakmar for an overnight stay.

      Starting our trek early avoids strong winds on the way descending. The trail passes through a dry plateau and fields before reaching Ghiling. As you are likely to experience the strong wind directly on your face, this section of the trail is relatively difficult. Mostly Ghiling is dry however, we get good views of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains. You will have time to explore the village around in the evening.

      You will retrace the same trail that you took going up to Lo Manthang. Great Himalayas view welcomes on the way Chhuksang village. Other small villages, you pass en route. The trek to Upper Mustang ends after joinging to the trails of the Annapurna circuit. After enjoying a delicious lunch at Kagbeni, proceed your journeys to Jomsonm for an over night stay.

      An early morning flight to Pokhara takes you back to the lake city. Flying through a gorge between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains is an amazing experience. During the afternoon, you can enjoy your sightseeing trip visiting different sites around Pokhara city. After arriving in Pokhara, we can spend the rest of the day in leisure. Overnight in Pokhara.
