  • Day 1 Taipei - Hualien
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Taipei - Hualien

      After leaving Taipei City, weโ€™ll head down the picturesque east coast of Taiwan, passing beautiful beaches and towering cliffs before reaching Taroko Gorge National Park. Weโ€™ll spend the afternoon hiking through canyons, passing raging rivers and cascading waterfalls before calling it a day and heading to our hotel in seaside Hualien City. That evening youโ€™ll have the option to venture out on your own for the Hualienโ€™s local eats.

      • Stop at Qingshui Cliff, the largest coastal cliff in Taiwan

  • Day 2 Hualien - Taitung

      Hualien - Taitung

      On the second day, weโ€™ll continue our southward journey, only with a slight twist. Whereas yesterday was all about the coast, after leaving Hualien weโ€™ll head inland and drive through the bucolic East Rift Valley, a wide expanse of greenery with towering mountains on both sides. After lunch, weโ€™ll take a few hours to cycle on exclusive bike paths that pass through, rice paddies & the flower-filled fields of local farmers. That evening, weโ€™ll reach the city of Taitung, a laid-back town with a definite tribal vibe.

      • Cycle on beautiful roads and bike paths passing through rice paddies and flower filled fields

  • Day 3 Taitung - Kaohsiung - Tainan

      Taitung - Kaohsiung - Tainan

      Itโ€™s the middle day of the tour, so it makes sense that today weโ€™ll be curving through Taiwanโ€™s southern banana belt region before turning northward up the western coast. Weโ€™ll spend much of the day exploring the grounds, pavilions, and statues of Taiwanโ€™s Fo Guang Shan Buddhist monastery, the largest of its kind in Taiwan. Afterward, weโ€™ll head to Tainan and explore Taiwanโ€™s spiritual capital (and oldest city), stopping to experience some of the cityโ€™s famous culinary delights.

      • Reach Kaohsiung and explore the spacious grounds and the great Buddha of Taiwanโ€™s largest Buddhist monastery

      Tainan - Chiayi

      On Day four, weโ€™ll dive in for a deep exploration of Tainan, Taiwanโ€™s oldest and arguably most culturally significant city. Weโ€™ll walk along cobblestone streets built during the Qing dynasty, visiting ancient temples and fortresses once belonging to various colonial powers and looking for a toehold in Formosa. In the afternoon, weโ€™ll visit the Guanziling Mud Spring for a healing soak before heading north to spend the evening at the tourโ€™s next port of call, the town of Chiayi.

      Chayi - Lugang - Taichung

      After breakfast in Chiayi, weโ€™ll head out to the old town of Lugang, which boasts 200+ temples dedicated to a variety of folk deities. Weโ€™ll wander the old streets, stopping to explore some of the townโ€™s most important temples (including the Longshan and Matsu temples) before delving further into the townโ€™s craft and culinary traditions. After spending the day immersed in history, weโ€™ll head out to the art-filled city of Taichung.

      On the tourโ€™s final day, weโ€™ll head out to arguably the most beautiful spot in Taiwan, majestic Sun Moon Lake, whose azure water and picture-perfect shoreline have inspired poets for centuries. Weโ€™ll spend the afternoon on and around the lake before heading to the Maolanshan tea plantation for a tour (and some tea). Weโ€™ll then complete the circuit by driving back to Taipei for some well-earned shopping at Taipei 101!
