      Immediately after passport control you proceed through baggage claim and customs to the exit of the airport. Our airport tour guide will be waiting for you with an ARA Tours sign. Afterwards transfer to the hotel in San Josรฉ and check in.

  • Day 2 Monday: San Josรฉ - Monteverde - Reserve

      After breakfast, the "Mundo Verde" nature experience begins with a drive into the cloud forest paradise. At Las Juntas, the approximately 35 km long, bumpy road to Monteverde, one of Costa Rica's most famous cloud forest protected areas, begins. Here you will visit a famous reserve of Monteverde, where a 2- 2 ยฝ hour hike is planned over easily accessible trails. This region is known for its imposing greenery and many bird species, including the Quetzal, bird of the gods of the Maya. Afterwards, you will check into your room at the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

  • Day 3 Tuesday: Monteverde - Caรฑas - Liberia - Peรฑas Blancas/Nicaragua - Ometepe

      Early in the morning you will make your way back to the Panamerican Highway. Via Caรฑas and Liberia you will reach the border to Nicaragua at Peรฑas Blancas in the late morning (approx. 11:30h). The tour guide will assist you with the border formalities. From Peรฑas Blancas we continue north along the largest lake in Nicaragua and Central America. In the port town of San Jorge, you will take the ferry and enjoy a one-hour boat ride to the volcanic island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. Arrive in Moyogalpa and continue to the hotel on the volcanic black sand beach where you will check into your room. Afterwards you will visit the legendary lagoon Charco Verde.

  • Day 4 Wednesday: Ometepe - Catarina - San Juan De Oriente - Granada

      In the morning we return to the ferry with a detour to the El Ceibo Museum. Arrived at the mainland you drive. You will take the famous Panamerican Highway towards Granada, the oldest colonial city in the Americas. On the way you will stop in Catarina, a traditional village with a magnificent view of the "Laguna de Apoyo". After this visit, another stop awaits you in Catarina's neighboring village of San Juan de Oriente. This place is very famous among artists, especially for its pottery. There you will have the opportunity to talk directly with one of the artists through your guide, ask questions and hear about his experiences and inspirations. The evening after arrival in Granada is at your leisure.

  • Day 5 Thursday: Granada - Granada City Tour - Boat Trip Las Isletas - Volcano Masaya - Granada

      Thursday: Granada - Granada City Tour - Boat Trip Las Isletas - Volcano Masaya - Granada

      After breakfast, you will explore on foot the historic center and the most important monuments of this impressive city. In the early afternoon, you will then head to Lake Nicaragua for a leisurely boat ride through the tropical "isletas" of Granada, where you can observe the lush vegetation and birdlife. Then visit the Masaya market and, as night falls, Masaya Volcano, where you can peer into the impressive Santiago crater. Deep down, it bubbles and boils, and a permanent cloud of various gases shoots at great speed from the "mouth of the devil," as the local people call the crater. You will enjoy dinner back in Granada, in a cozy restaurant of the city.

  • Day 6 Friday: Granada - Peรฑas Blancas/Costa Rica - La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano

      Return via the Peรฑas Blancas border and from there to La Fortuna. Here you will check into your rooms at the hotel. After arrival you will have the opportunity to enjoy a bath in the thermal springs.

  • Day 7 Saturday: Arenal National Park - Arenal Suspension Bridges

      Saturday: Arenal National Park - Arenal Suspension Bridges

      After breakfast, you will take a hike through Arenal National Park, with the volcano always in view. Later, you will pass through a small forest until you reach an impressive lava field dating back to 1968, after which you will hike across the suspension bridges stretched between the trees and safe to walk on, observing the interesting nature.

  • Day 8 Sunday: La Fortuna - Tortuguero

      Sunday: La Fortuna - Tortuguero

      Today your day starts very early. After a quick coffee you will start at about 05:30h with the drive via Puerto Viejo and Horquetas to Guรกpiles, where you will reach the main road San Josรฉ - Limรณn. Here you will enjoy a typical breakfast in a restaurant at about 07:45h and then continue by bus to the area of La Pavona or Caรฑo Blanco. In the area bananas are grown on a large scale and you will learn interesting details about the blessing and curse of the yellow fruit. Afterwards you will take a boat tour along the local rivers and canals,passing beautiful natural islands to Tortuguero. Check-in at the cozy lodge and late lunch. In the afternoon you have the choice: relax at the pool or visit the village of Tortuguero with the tour guide. There you can visit the Sea Turtle Conservancy Museum (USD 2 per person), entirely dedicated to the protection of endangered sea turtles. Enjoy a drink in one of the typical small restaurants (so-called sodas) restaurants (called sodas) before returning to the lodge for dinner. From July to September, you can book an optional night excursion after dinner to Tortuguero beach, where the endangered sea turtles lay their eggs. Cost for direct bookings: approx. USD 30 per person. Info 1: This excursion to Tortuguero National Park (day 8, 9 and 10) will include other guests besides your group. Info 2: The luggage limit on the boat transport is 12 kg per person. We recommend that you pack a smaller bag for the next 3 days and give your main luggage to the driver. You will get it back once you transfer back to the bus on day 10.

  • Day 9 Monday: Tortuguero National Park

      In the early morning you will explore the narrow channels of the national park in smaller boats together with the tour guide and keep an eye out for animals. The vegetation is partly so dense that you drive with the boat like through a tunnel. With a little luck you can spot crocodiles, monkeys, sloths, iguanas, freshwater turtles, sleeping bats and numerous water birds, and the flora also surprises with a diversity that can hardly be surpassed. Afterwards you will return to the lodge, where a delicious breakfast is already waiting. Later, you will take a relaxing walk in the reserve before lunch is served at the lodge. In the afternoon, another boat tour is included. Dinner will be served after dark in the hotel's open restaurant.

  • Day 10 Tuesday: Tortuguero - Puerto Viejo De Limรณn

      The journey continues by boat to the south to La Pavona or Caรฑo Blanco. There, the bus awaits you again for the onward journey to the Caribbean coast, past the port city of Limรณn, where, with a little luck, you can catch a glimpse of the transatlantic and sometimes cruise ships. Parallel to the coast you will drive to Puerto Viejo de Limรณn, a small village with a typical Caribbean ambience. After checking into your room at the hotel, you will have free time. Enjoy a drink in a reggae bar to end the afternoon and then dinner on your own in one of the village restaurants. The beaches also invite you to enjoy the tropical climate. Overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 11 Wednesday: Puerto Viejo De Limรณn - Cahuita National Park - Sixaola/Panama - Bocas Del Toro

      After breakfast, the luggage will be loaded back into the bus and you will drive to Cahuita National Park, where you will go on a hike. Besides numerous bird species, with a little luck you will also see sloths, monkeys and other jungle inhabitants. Afterwards drive via Bribrรญ to the border in Sixaola (approx. 14h). The tour guide will help you with the border formalities. Over a bridge you will cross the Rio Sixaola to Panama on foot. In Guabito the journey continues to the port city of Almirante. Here your luggage will be loaded back onto a boat and you will travel about 30 minutes to the main island of Colรณn to the small town of Bocas del Toro, where you will check into your room. Bocas del Toro is a collection of numerous idyllic islands, washed by the clear, fish-rich Caribbean Sea. On the main island of Colรณn, with the small town of Bocas del Toro, you will find several cozy bars, restaurants, souvenir stands and stores. There is a relaxed, typical Caribbean atmosphere. The main attractions are the lonely beaches on the main or also on the side islands, as well as the underwater world, which invite you for diving or snorkeling. The evening is at your free disposal.

  • Day 12 Thursday: Bocas Del Toro - Boat Trip Red Frog Beach

      Thursday: Bocas Del Toro - Boat Trip Red Frog Beach

      Today a boat excursion awaits you. First, the boat will take you through smaller sea lanes that wind through the much overgrown mangrove forests. While you're there, keep an eye out for waterfowl! Next, head to Coral Cay, where the sea is calm year-round, making it suitable for snorkelers of all ages. Local restaurants built on stilts over the water offer a variety of seafood (not included). Later, the boat ride continues to Bastimentos Island. The island is covered all around by mangroves and surrounded by nature and good air. Isla Bastimentos is still mostly jungle, there are no roads or runways, for this reason the island can only be reached by boat. Not only adventurers or nature freaks find themselves in Isla Bastimentos, because here is one of the most famous beaches of Bocas del Toro, the "Red Frog Beach", which got its name from the red poison dart frogs. The beach is not only popular with tourists, but also with surfers. Within the island, there are many trails and paths through the jungle to explore. However, the most popular activity is to "just let your mind wander" and listen to the sounds of the sea. In the afternoon return to the main island.

  • Day 13 Friday: Bocas Del Toro - Panama City - City Tour

      Friday: Bocas Del Toro - Panama City - City Tour

      Transfer to the airport of Colรณn/Bocas del Toro and approx. one hour flight to Panama City. Afterwards you undertake a city tour. First you will visit the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal. Here you will get a first insight into the functioning and dimensions of the famous Panama Canal. The terrace offers a unique view of the locks and of the ships passing through the locks on their way to the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean. The Panama Canal is one of the most important waterways in the world. About 14,000 ships pass through it every year, and about six percent of the world's trade passes through it. In the associated museum you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the canal. Afterwards, you will walk along the shore to the historic old town. Today, the oldest institutions and buildings of the modern city can be found here; locally, the district is called Casco Viejo or Casco Antiguo. On a walking tour, you will see many unique colonial buildings, some still largely in their original condition and others lovingly and colorfully restored. The historic district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and in recent years has become the country's center for art, design and cultural revival. Many new bars, rooftop terraces, restaurants and hotels have opened here. Also a stop at the coastal road Cinta Costera or in Punta Pacifica should not be missed. Panama City's famous skyscrapers are located here! Finally, visit the 16th century ruins of Panama Viejo (closed on Mondays), destroyed by the pirate Sir Henry Morgan in 1671. Later in the afternoon, check-in and room check-in at the hotel, which is located right in the center and has many shopping, restaurants and bars nearby.

      Today you will set out for a very special experience, the partial crossing of the world-famous Panama Canal. You will get to know the so-called 8th wonder of the world on a boat trip from Panama City to Gamboa. In the morning you will be driven from your hotel to the harbor at the Causeway Amador, from where you will have a magnificent view of the skyline of Panama City. From there you will start the approx. 4-hour trip through the legendary Panama Canal. During this time you will pass the Miraflores Locks, Lake Miraflores, the Pedro Miguel Lock and the Gaillard Cut (narrowest point) to Lake Gatรบn. Enjoy lunch on board. This trip will leave a lasting impression on every traveler. From the port in Gamboa, return by bus to Panama City on the Pacific coast. Info: The tour guide on the ship is only available in English!
