The Best Of Patagonia: Bariloche & El Calafate

We welcome you at Bariloche`s Airport and then transfer to the hotel to check in. The rest of the day is at leisure to visit the city center on our own or to do any of the optional Excursions that Bariloche has to offer us. In the afternoon we recommend  to do the excursion Small Circuit (non - included), which is almost obligatory not only because it shows representative places of the Andean landscape, but also because in half a day one can get to know and fall in love with this city. The circuit is carried out along Av. Ezequiel Bustillo, bordering the Nahuel Huapi lake. As one moves away from the buildings, the landscape begins to change to appreciate the flora and forests of cypresses, maitenes, coihues and ñires, among other typical trees. At kilometer 17, there is the base of Cerro Campanario, which has a height of 1,050 meters and has a chairlift (optional). Its summit has one of the eight most impressive panoramic views in the world. Near kilometer 24, you begin to see the San Eduardo Chapel, Puerto Pañuelo and the Llao Llao hotel. After passing through Villa Tacul and Lago Escondido, you reach the junction of the Nahuel Huapi and Perito Moreno lakes, which you cross over the Angostura bridge, located over the river of the same name. The circuit also shows the Panoramic Point or Mirador del Lago Moreno. The return is undertaken by the El Trébol lagoon until the junction with Av. Bustillo, which leads back to the center of the city. In this way, in only 60 kilometers one can admire lakes, mountains and native forests of singular beauty.

Today we will visit the town of San Martín de los Andes which is located south of the Neuquén province. It’s nestled in an ample valley on the shores of Lago Lacar, at an elevation of 640 meters over sea level. We will travel to San Martín de los Andes, going through Villa la Angostura first, and then towards the Siete Lagos, where we can enjoy the most beautiful scenery in the region, crystalline lakes, with unusual colors of blue and green, framed by dense, old woods. After arriving at San Martín de los Andes, a typical mountain town, we will have time to visit the city on our own and to enjoy. In the afternoon we go back to our hotel in Bariloche. With its eternal snow and hanging glaciers, you will not want to stop visiting it to also see for yourself the reason for its name. The tour starts from Bariloche, taking National Route 40 South, about 45 km, to cross the Pampa de Huenuleo and border Lake Gutiérrez, to cross the Pilmayen and Melgarejo streams. After passing through the "watershed", we will walk along the shores of Lake Mascardi until we reach the detour where the road to Tronador (gravel) emerges. During this tour, the Mascardi lake is bordered again along its west coast, until reaching the Isla Corazón viewpoint. Later on, you will pass in front of Cerro Los Emparedados and skirt the upper Manso River until you reach Pampa Linda, from where you have one of the best views of Cerro Tronador. Then you cross part of the Vuriloches valley and finally, passing through a shady forest, you arrive at Ventisquero Negro. The tour culminates a little further on at the foot of Cerro Tronador. The hill, with its 3,454 meters above sea level, is the most important height in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, and has three peaks (International, Argentine and Chilean).
