Day 2: Etruscans - Ancestors Of The "Eternal City

Your first destination of the day is the Villa Giulia Museum. Once a papal summer residence, the beautiful building houses one of the richest Etruscan collections in the world: funerary objects such as jewelry will bring you closer to the mysterious people. Continue to the "Porta del Popolo" and the square of the same name. Imagine how numerous visitors once entered the city through this monumental city portal. A highlight of your trip is the Spanish Steps. Already in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was considered a meeting place for wealthy Englishmen on their "grand tour" and still gathers travelers from all over the world. At the "Casa di Goethe" you will also gain insight into Goethe's trip to Italy from 1786 to 1788 as well as his time in Rome itself. (F)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Rome'S Birth
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Rome'S Birth

You will start your day at the Pantheon, the best preserved temple building in the ancient Roman world. A predecessor building from the time of Emperor Augustus was destroyed by fires and completed in its present form by order of Emperor Hadrian. Marvel at this largest and most perfect circular building of antiquity. Your next destination is one of the seven hills of Rome, "Monte Capitolino" with Michelangelo's Town Hall Square in the heart of the city. Enjoy a unique view over the Roman Forum and the Tiber Island. The morning ends in the alleys of the former Jewish ghetto. Once characterized by poverty, it is currently a colorful and lively neighborhood. Stroll through the alleys and experience authentic Rome. You will spend the rest of the day according to your individual wishes until dinner together. In the evening, a tasty meal awaits you at your monastery hotel. (B/A)
