The trail from Sigane initially follows a road under construction for the first couple of hours. After Japre, the trail ascends to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. Here, youโ€™ll find a single unnamed lodge offering nice views of the Everest range. Shortly after Bhulbhule, the trail splits, and youโ€™ll turn right towards Pikey Peak. Along the way, youโ€™ll pass some old yak houses and a long mani stone wall. The trail then contours the hillside below Taklung Danda, leading you through a beautiful forested path adorned with rhododendrons, which bloom spectacularly in the spring. Exiting the forest, itโ€™s not far to Pikey Peak base camp, approximately 2 hours away. From the base camp, itโ€™s a short climb to the summit at 4,065 meters (13,336 feet). Unless you encounter an unusually clear evening, itโ€™s recommended to ascend to the summit in the morning for a breathtaking sunrise.

Day 6: Trek From Loding To Junbesi, Visit Thubtenchoeling Monastery

Start the day by heading down the ridgeline for breakfast at Jase Bhanjyang. From there, you have a few options for the descent to Junbesi, with the most likely being a stunning shortcut trail that leaves the ridge shortly after Jase and descends steeply through spectacular old-growth forest to Taktor. This path meets the Everest Base Camp trail coming from Jiri. From Taktor, it is a couple of hours on a lovely trail to Junbesi.

Junbesi is a traditional Sherpa village at an altitude of 2,675 meters (8,776 feet) and is considered the cradle of Sherpa culture and architecture. The Sherpas regard the Solukhumbu as a sacred valley. In this remote part of Nepal that borders Tibet, Buddhism flourishes, and you will encounter numerous Buddhist monasteries along the way.
