The basic price includes the rental of canoe/kayak, life jacket, related safety & cleaning equipment, smaller dry bags, the transportation to a paddling starting point from Ilomantsi centre or from Huhus and from paddling endpoint to Huhus, waterproof paddling route map and instructions, and our support throughout the tour.

Accommodation

You stay the nights in nature. Finland's every men rights mean that you can wild camp in nature (with some restrictions). Along the trail there are equipped camping sites with hut, fire place, dry toilet, etc. You can bring your own tent or rent 2 or 4 person tents from us.

Hygieneprotocol

Our self-guided tours support by nature safe and health travelling, as you are travelling on your own in the wilderness, where there is hardly any other travellers or locals. Public transportations and possible the last kilometers in our transportation are required to arrive to our services when arriving outside Finland.

Guide

Just arrive with basic outdoor supplies (dressing, food) and and we'll take care of everything else so that you can experience a successful and relaxing self-guided paddling trip in nature. Package includes:

Meals

Meals, drinks, cookware and cutlery are not included.

Others

Flights and arrival to Ilomantsi area and back are not included. You can fly to Helsinki and then take either flight (www.finnair.fi) or train (www.vr.fi) from Helsinki to Joensuu. From Joensuu you can take a bus to Ilomantsi center or we can pick you up from Joensuu and also drop off for an extra charge. Other exclusions are: tent, sleeping bag, bigger waterproof bags, food & drinks, cookware and cutlery and travel insurance, etc. Many of this you can rent separately in Extras.

Flights

Flights and arrival to Ilomantsi area and back are not included. You can fly to Helsinki and take either flight or train (www.vr.fi) from Helsinki to Joensuu. From Joensuu you can take a bus to Ilomantsi or we can pick you up from Joensuu and also drop off for an extra charge.

Insurance

Travel insurance is not covered in the tour price and we warmly recommend to have your own. You can organize travel insurance with your preferred insurance company.

      Day 1: Petkeljärvi National Park - The Start Point Of The Paddling Trail

      Petkeljärvi National Park is located in Finland, North Carelia, Ilomantsi.  Paddling trail starts from here.You can arrive a day or more earlier to Petkeljärvi, camp there, and you have the option to hike the short hiking routes. The following days you can paddle on your on pace. The route map and instructions include information of the rest places, huts, lent-tos, fire-place, etc. along to route until the end point.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Passing Petkeljärvi And Couple Of Lakes

      Day 2: Passing Petkeljärvi And Couple Of Lakes

      On day 1 and possibly also on day 2 you will be padding next to Petkeljärvi area to the lakes Nuorajärvi and Kasinjärvi. After passing these - which may challenge you if windy - you end up to the more peaceful river Koitajoki. You might spend your first night on one island of Nuorajärvi.

      After the lakes you will arrive to the longest uniform part of river Koitajoki. Some parts of the river are wide and some narrow. Along your way you may meet and see lot of different kind of birds, and other kind animals. Especially when you reach Kesonsuo area - a special swamp type - in Spring time, you might experience wild bird shows.
