Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to four of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu valley: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhu, and Boudhnath.

Kathmandu Durbar Square features the historic palaces of the medieval kings who once ruled the Kathmandu Kingdom. Swayambhu, meaning "the self-existent," is one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world. Perched on a hilltop, it is popularly known as the Monkey Temple due to the large monkey population in the area. Pashupatinath, along with the Aryaghat or Funeral Site by the Bagmati River, is one of the most sacred Hindu worship sites globally. The Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world, is a significant pilgrimage and tourist destination in Kathmandu.

Next, we visit Khokana village, a medieval settlement with a rich mustard-oil seed heritage, which has been proposed for World Heritage Site status. We then explore Bungmati, another charming medieval village with a picturesque temple in the square and traditional houses displaying onions and red chilies from their windows.

Our journey continues to Nagarkot, located 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,175 meters (7,136 feet). Weโ€™ll stay overnight in Nagarkot to experience the breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the eastern Nepal Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. Overnight in Nagarkot.
