      After a city tour, head south. Marvel at Mount Cook as you continue through the Tussok Plateau of Mackenzie Country. In the afternoon you will reach Mount Cook National Park. FA



  • Day 3 Lake Ohau - Dunedin - Otago Peninsula

      We travel through the wide valley of the Waitaki River to Oamaru. Walk along the beach to the Moeraki Boulders. At midday you will reach Dunedin and take a short city tour before continuing to the neighboring Otago Peninsula. The peninsula is home to the worldโ€™s only known mainland colony of Royal Albatrosses. Take the boat to the cliffs at Taiaroa Head to view the majestic birds. You might also see seals, dolphins and the rare yellow-eyed penguins that are native here. FA



  • Day 4 Dunedin - Catlins - Invercargill - Bluff - Stewart Island

      Today and tomorrow you will explore Stewart Island, New Zealandโ€™s third largest island. Beforehand, the bus travels through the hills of Catlins Forest Park, where pristine forests meet the often stormy coast. A short hike will bring you closer to the prehistoric fauna. We continue to Invercargill. The passenger ferry to Stewart Island is waiting in Bluff harbor. The crossing to Oban, the only settlement on the natural island, takes an hour. F

      You will get to know the town of Oban on a walking tour. A boat takes you to the uninhabited Ulva Island, a bird sanctuary. After a hike we take the boat back to Oban. F

      On your way to Mount Aspiring National Park, youโ€™ll pass through Arrowtown, a pioneer gold mining settlement. Head over the Haast Pass to the west coast, where you will take an afternoon walk on the shores of Lake Moeraki through the rainforest thicket to the roaring surf of the Tasman Sea. Your destination for today is Fox Glacier. F

      The bus ride to the Franz Josef Glacier, which is melting in the valley, is short, the natural spectacle is magnificent: gray meltwater flows from jagged ice masses through lush green rainforest - and soon afterwards into the sea. Via Harihari and Ross we go to Hokitika to visit a jade factory. On the way to Nelson Lakes National Park you will see the famous Pancake Rocks, which look like huge stacks of pancakes. FA

      Today we travel along Lake Taupo, New Zealandโ€™s largest lake, and the cascades of the mighty Huka Falls in the Waikato River to Rotorua, the countryโ€™s thermal center and center of Maori culture. Visit the Whakarewarewa Thermal Park and meet the indigenous people. In the evening, demonstration of traditional Maori dances and songs with a typical Hangi dinner. F



  • Day 17 Rotorua - Coromandel Peninsula

      Visit the Coromandel Peninsula and Hot Water Beach, where hot spring water rises through the sand to the surface at low tide. Detour to the white sandy beach and the impressive rock formations of Cathedral Cove. The rest of the dayโ€™s route takes you to Auckland. F

      Drive from the Bay of Islands to Hokianga Bay on the west coast. From Opononi we continue to the protected Waipoua Kauri Forest, where the gigantic Kauri trees, which are up to 2,000 years old, grow. Return via Dargaville and Matakohe to Auckland. F
