Nairobi Accommodation Pick-Up & Transfer to Masai Mara National Reserve

You will be picked from your hotel at 8:30am for a journey south along the floor of the dramatic Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara National Reserve. Also known as ’The 7th Wonder of the World’ because of the Great migration, witnessed every year between June and September, when millions of wildebeests and zebras cross Mara River from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya. With a stop for lunch at Narok Town, you will arrive at the Masai Mara National Reserve in time for an afternoon game drive where you may have a chance of seeing the ‘Big Five’, different varieties of birdlife and the best savannah vegetation in the world. This is serene vast country of breath-taking vistas, a panorama of vast rolling plains and rounded hills, of intermittent groves of acacia woodlands and dense thickets of scrub. The famous Masai tribes people also live within the game reserve.

Game Drives & Visit a Masai Village

Enjoy a full day of game drives to absorb the beauty and splendor of the Mara - home to breathtaking vistas, mass herds of animals and their associated predators. In fact, the Mara has the largest population of lions to be found in Kenya. Other animals to be seen here include Buffalo, Black Rhino, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Cheetah, Common Zebra, Coke’s Hartebeest, White-bearded Gnu, Oribi, Warthog and Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelles. The bird life of Mara is as profuse as its mammalian fauna.

In the afternoon, take a picnic lunch at the Mara River where you can enjoy your box lunch while watching crocodiles and hippos laze around in their natural habitat. After lunch continue your game drive in search for more wildlife.

You will be dropped off at the Masai Village at 5:00pm for an opportunity to visit the Masai people. Upon arrival at the village, proceed for a nature walk with the Masai naturalist guide where you’ll get to see herbs that are used as medication among the Masai. Return to the village where a camp fire will be lit and enjoy entertainment. The chief will then give you stories of their culture and tradition, show you how the herbs seen during the nature walk are prepared and used. You will also have a glimpse into their homes and social structure. Dinner will be served at the village followed by coffee and tea as you leave to return to the camp/lodge for overnight.

Considered “Africa’s greatest Eating Experience”, the restaurant offers a "Beast of a Feast" . The meat is pinned onto Maasai spears and braised over a huge charcoal pit in the center of the restaurant. The meat used to be exotic game, but now comes from four legged beasts that everyone recognizes, namely pork, lamb, beef with the occasional ostrich and crocodile thrown in. The food is accompanied with "dawa", a staple Carnivore cocktail that will enhance your mood and make you brave enough to try some of the hottest accompanying sauces.

It is known for its magnificent baobab trees and herds of elephants, with up to 300 individuals. These gentle giants can be found looking for underground streams in the dry riverbeds.

Go on an afternoon game drive and see wildebeest, zebras, buffalos and other exciting creatures.
