You will be given an introduction to the trip and what you can expect along the journey, along with being able to ask any questions that you have, then we will hit the road tomorrow morning! โ€‹ We will spend the afternoon around the pool together, getting to know your new travel buddies then we will all have a big buffet dinner together onsite. Then in the evening we will set up shop around a paved and seated campfire to enjoy a friendly and relaxing night cap, before starting our adventure tomorrow morning.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust And Nairobi National Park

Today we are on the road and heading towards the Namibian Border. As the jounrey is a long one (and we may have some dusty companions onboard) we have decided to break up the day and have a pit stop at Trawal. โ€‹ After breakfast we have an optional excision to the Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Nairobi National Park, where you will get a taste of what is to come on a safari. Going with a local guide also means gleaning more insight into the cityโ€™s history and culture. โ€‹ We will have a couple of breaks along the day, then head back to our rooms for a rest and chance to get changed before it is time to head up to the Ole Serini Rooftop pool to watch the sunset over the Nairobi National Park. We will enjoy a nice relaxing evening up here with dinner and a couple of quiet drinks for those who wanted to lounge around and connect with their new friends.   There are a couple of big days coming up in the communities, so this is a great oppotuniay to enjoy Nairobi before you roll your sleeves back!

  • Day 3 Ruben Centre
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Ruben Centre

We hope that everyone is recharged after a lazy night around the pool and is read to head to our first stop within Nairobis communities. After breakfast, we will arrive at the Ruben Centre, located in the Mukuru kwa Ruben slum, and received a guided orientation of the community project.  โ€‹ The Mukuru area now has a population of over 600,000 and many families live in corrugated iron shacks measuring 10 x 10 feet. Earnings are low and often inadequate to feed their families. Consequently, their children look to other means of survival such as prostitution, drug peddling, begging and other criminal activities.   The Ruben Centre, with its three core areas of Education, Health and Community Development, is attempting to reconcile some of the hardships that the residents of Mukuru face. Today you will be exposed to all of the areas and see which one resonates the most with you, then you will spend more time there if you like. Before our tour we will be completing various fundraiser to support the Ruben Centre and in this instance will be funding the primary school of 3,000 students first ever computer lab. Please see the links below for more information. โ€‹ We will head back to camp after spending the day in the community where you will have a the option to eating in or heading into town to try some local cuisine.

  • Day 4 Special Needs School & Kibera Slum
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Special Needs School & Kibera Slum

Today is a special day and one that we have no doubt will find a place in your heart for a long time to come. After breakfast, we will arrive at the Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi (ERCN), located in the Kibera slum and spend the afternoon with the staff and families, and hear their stories.   Kibera is a dangerous place to live and there are many health related issues within the slum, and the most common diseases include malaria, typhoid, dysentery, tuberculosis and AIDS. The Kibera slum is the largest in Kenya and has an estimated  population of over 500,000 to 1,000,000 people. We will have the opportunity to safely explore the slum and spend some time in a the home of a local family from the ERCN.   ERCN is community-based organisation that provides educational, vocational and livelihood services to vulnerable communities living in the informal settlement. The project aims to enhance learning and developmental outcomes for 77 Children with intellectual and Autism spectrum disorder, by improving their cognitive and adaptive abilities. The project is funded by donors, and lacks substantial infrastructure and resources, so before departure we will be raising funds to fund a playground for the children and then spending the day getting our hands dirty putting it all together. Please see the links below for more information. โ€‹ After a humbling day, we will make our way back to our camp where we can get changed then head our for a well deserved dinner in town.

  • Day 5 Ngong And Edmund Rice Catholic Education Centre
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Ngong And Edmund Rice Catholic Education Centre

We hope that you are all rested up, physically, mentally and emotionally from an empowering day yesterday because we will be taking you to our last community project today, The Edmund Rice Catholic Education Centre. We will arrive after breakfast and have the opportunity to explore the grounds and connect with children in the classrooms, agricultural and vocational programs. Today is a little less raw that the previous two days and a great foundation for all of those interesting in pursuing further teaching duties beyond the completion of our tour.  โ€‹ In the afternoon we will make our way back to the camp for our final dinner in Nairobi before setting off for our Safari to the Maasai Mara!

  • Day 6 Loita & Massai Mara

Today, we start making our way to one of the most well known and popular places in Africa! We will hit the road in our 4 x 4 safari jeeps and start making our way through the Rift Valley to the lush, mountainous oasis of Loite. We will stop at some amazing viewpoints and have lunch at a unique little restaurant, before continuing on to the Maasai Mara. โ€‹ We will arrive at our flaming tents in the afternoon and have a couple of hours to cool off at the resort pool before dinner. • Day 7 Maasai Mara - Golden Triangle
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Maasai Mara - Golden Triangle

We are up at the crack of dawn and have a big buffet breakfast before heading into the park as soon as the gates open. This will give us the best opportunity to see some of the animals hunting at dawn, plus it will also give us the chance to drive deeper into the less travelled Maasai Triangle.  โ€‹ We will be on the hunt for the BIG 5! Originally referred to the difficulty in hunting the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and African buffalo, we have the chance to try and spot all of them whilst in this section of the national park. If we are lucky we may even see a hunt!

  • Day 8 Maasai Mara - Mara River
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Maasai Mara - Mara River

Today, we hope that you will be able to tick a few more items off your bucket list! Those who would like to join in on the once in a life time Hot Air Balloon Ride over the Maasai Mara will be departing at 4am to catch the sunrise and enjoy a champagne breakfast, before meeting up with the other guests at around 9am. Others who would prefer a sleep in will wake up and ready to depart at 7am to start making our way to the Mara River to all meet up for lunch.   Each year around 2.5 million wildebeest and 1 million zebra make the cross the crocodile infested waters of the Mara River from the Serengeti in Tanzania, in a phenomenon called the "great migration" and if we are lucky enough, we might be able to witness it! Throughout the journey you will see an abundance of giraffe, elephant, buffalo and antelope, but dont forget to keep your eyes open for the fastest land animal on the planet, the cheetah!

  • Day 9 Maasai Village
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Maasai Village

We will say goodbye to our amazing glamping village after breakfast and continue to head north towards the lakes region, but before we leave, no visit to the Maasai Mara would be complete without a visit to a local village to see the world famous Maasai Warriors. We will be able to see what life is like in the village, see a traditional dances and jumping, explore some local homes and then buy some souvenirs from a local market. โ€‹ Once we have finished at the village, we will start making our way towards our lodge in Nakuru. En route we will stop for lunch and then pop in to Lord Egertons Castle, beofre spending the afternoon looking out over the surrounding landscape from the pool at our lodge.  โ€‹

  • Day 10 Lake Nakuru
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

After an early breakfast, we will depart the lodge with a packed picnic lunch and proceed for a full day game drive in the Nakuru National Park where you will have a chance to visit a unique sanctuary catering for a number of the endangered rhinoceros and the Rothschild giraffe. Also to be seen is a myriad different variety of birdlife in and around the lake, including thousands upon thousands of flamingo. Waterbucks, lion and leopard are also common at the park, so we have no doubt that your cup will be full by the time we leave to head back to the lodge.  We will have a campfire and drinks after dinner.
