On this day we depart to the Maasai Village in the Southern part of Kenya. You will drive towards the border town of Kenya and Tanzania โ€“ Namanga. Drive on further to arrive at the village where you are welcomed with songs and dances from the men and women. Feel free to join them in dancing. The Maasai are a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting northern, central and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. They are among the best-known local populations internationally due to their residence near the many game parks of the African Great Lakes, and their distinctive customs and dress. The Maasai have always been special. Their bright red robes set them apart visually. Spear in hand, they are calm and courageous regardless of the danger. They were the dominating tribe at beginning of 20th century and they are one of the very few tribes who have retained most of their traditions, lifestyle and lore. In common with the wildlife with which they co-exist, the Maasai need a lot of land. Unlike many other tribes in Kenya, the Maasai are semi-nomadic and pastoral: they live by herding cattle and goats and they believe that God gave them to take care! Upon arrival at the village and after dancing with the locals, have a refreshment at the village and embark on the daysโ€™ activities of goat slaughtering and preparation of meat, roasting, blood tasting / drinking. Learn how they live in mud made houses called Manyatta which are constructed by women and how to make fire without match boxes.
