Today many Sherpas make their living solely from trekking expeditions and acting as guides. We may take a trek to Thame or visit Khunde, or we can use this time to explore Namche Bazaar and check out the weekly market that takes place on Friday evening and on Saturday morning. Your guide will be with you and will take you to the Tourist Visitor Center near to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park that has a fascinating display of equipment and relics of the first Everest climbers. The trail also provides some stunning mountain views as we steadily climb higher to 3860 meters at Tengboche Village, famous for its ornate wall hangings and 6 meter Buddha, Tibetan musical instruments and vivid Lama robes. A highlight of visiting here will be the evening prayer at the monastery that is soothing to your soul.

Today is a more relaxed day with a quite easy trek to Dingboche, except for the last part where we have to climb a steep hill which reminds us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically challenging. We will pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho and further along the trail we come to a fork, taking the left trail that heads to Pheriche Village and then cross a bridge before that steep ascent to Dingboche Village (4410m) that has several good lodges for us to choose from.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Exploration And Acclimatization Day At Dingboche.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

To stay active, recommended by health specialists, we will climb 400 meters to Nangkartshang Gompa sited on a ridge just north of Dingboche Village. From here we have views of Mt. Makalu (8,463m), the worldโ€™s fifth highest mountain, as well as Mt. Ama Dablam. If we have the energy we can head to the summit at Nangkartshang (5090m).

We are slowly getting closer to EBC, gradually heading to higher elevations passing Gorak Shep Lake and then further on come to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died on the mountain. Walking now is more physically demanding as a result of the thinner air at this altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine, and streams to cross before reaching EBC. The first thing we notice on arrival at EBC is the varied colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions before attempting a climb to the summit.
