In Southern Africa some departures may use vans and luggage trailers subject to group size and vehicle availability. It is also important to note that our overland vehicles are not air-conditioned, but all vehicles have windows that can be opened to allow for fresh air. There are many early starts with long hours spent driving on rough roads on all African itineraries. While most people love the chance to watch the changing landscape and daily village life, feedback shows that long periods of inactivity does not appeal to all clients. We provide the approximate distance covered each day and how many hours this normally takes to drive so that you can choose the safari experience that is right for you.African conditions are extremely tough on vehicles. While we fastidiously maintain our vehicles at our workshops, you should not expect Africa to be your traditional touring experience. While it’s certainly our aim to avoid them, it’s important that you set off on your trip knowing that the occasional breakdown can happen and are best treated as part of the African adventure. Due to wet weather there may be times when we have to take an alternative route which will mean longer travel times

Embark on a Cape Town city center to Table Mountain Cable Car

/Cape Point private tour including the colourful houses in the Bo Kaap, cable car ride up and down Table Mountain, scenic drive along Chapman’s Peak and a visit to Boulder’s Penguins colony from Cape Town. This tour includes entrance fees to places of interest as per the itinerary.

What you can expect:

Pick up will be at 9:00am from guest’s hotel in Cape Town and surrounds. The first stop will be in the Bo Kaap (Cape Malay Quarters) to view the colourful houses, learn about their history and take some photos. Thereafter, we travel to the Table Mountain cableway station to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain. Guests receive a guided tour of the mountain and see Cape Town from another dimension. We return to the bottom via the cable car. After this unforgettable experience we proceed along the Atlantic Seaboard, with the mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. We stop at Maiden’s Cove for a photo opportunity with the backdrop of the 12 Apostles mountain range. Passing through Clifton, Camps Bay, Llundadno and Hout Bay, we stop for a photo at the view point on one of the world’s most scenic routes – Chapman’s Peak drive. We continue to Simon’s Town and meet the monument of Just Nuisance – the Great Dane dog who made a name for himself in the South African Naval Base. Next, we stop at Boulder’s Penguins colony to visit these enchanting creatures. You may find them adorably playing in the ocean. Our final destination is the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve for a guided tour and a photo stop at this very popular landmark. From there we travel to Cape Point, where guests can hike to the top of the lighthouse or take the Funicular to the top instead. Our return route is via the Old Cape Road with a drop off at guest’s accommodation between 17:00 and 18:00pm.

Take things to the next level with our crocodile cage diving experience by sharing a pond with half a dozen adult Nile crocs. Facilitated by African Croc Dive, crocodile cage diving is a thrilling close encounter that includes a safety briefing and all diving equipment. It takes place in a sturdy and spacious steel cage that’s surrounded by water on all sides. You’ll spend around 20 minutes in the crocs’ watery habitat and will get to see them both feeding and resting. The crocodile cage diving experience is both underwater and at surface level. Booking is recommended but not essential. 15 September – April, six daily dives, ages nine and up.

Penguin Colony & Simon’s Town

A trip to Boulders Beach you will not forget - one of the only places in the world that you can swim alongside penguins. Boulders Beach has grown rapidly to over 3000 penguins since only two breeding Jackass penguins settled in that arrived from Dyer Island, near Gansbaai. Simon’s Town is the seat of the SA Navy, and has a charming coastal town atmosphere and a vibrant history. Here you can find a thriving harbour, The Warrior Toy Museum and The South African Navy Museum. View the frigates and submarines from a distance that are docked at the Naval Base harbour.
