      We bring you from your accommodation to your volunteering placement (according to your booking; please choose between kindergarten, informal community school, special needs centre, veterinary clinic, tree nursery - we can provide more details about each of these options).       In the afternoon, guided tour through the rice fields outside Moshi where you will learn about rice cultivation. Afterwards, you will visit the Monkey Forest, a rain forest inhabited by many monkeys like the Black-and-white colobus and Blue Monkeys.

  • Day 4 Trip To Materuni Waterfall & Chagga Village

      Trip To Materuni Waterfall & Chagga Village

      The day starts with an organized trip to the Materuni Waterfall. With a height of almost 150 m (500 ft) it is the highest and most impressive waterfall at the slopes of Kilimanjaro of the Moshi area. From Materuni Village, we will walk some 30 minutes to the waterfall. The walk itself is interesting, as you will see some smaller waterfalls and lots of waterways which are part of the irrigation system of the local farmers who grow coffee, bananas, and many other fruits and vegetables.

      At the waterfall, you can even refresh in the cool and crystal clear water โ€“ donโ€™t forget to bring your swimwear! When we return, we will have a late lunch at Materuni Village, located at a height of around 1300 m (4300 ft) above sea level, is set within a dramatic landscape of high rises and deep valleys, all covered by tropical rain forest. After we will have a walk around the village to see the typical life of the Chagga tribe and learn something about the local coffee farming.

      Start Of Your 5 Days Safari - Lake Manyara National Park

      At around 7:30 am you get picked up for a 3-4 hours drive to Lake Manyara National Park, which is famous for its tree climbing lions. Other animals found in the park include elephants, buffaloes, leopards, baboons, giraffes, zebras, ostriches, wildebeest, impalas and hippos. Lake Manyara also has hundreds of species of birds. Common water birds to be found are pelicans, spoonbills, hammerkops and migratory flamingos.

      After breakfast you will drive to Tarangire National Park, which is famous for its high density of elephants and baobab trees and enjoy a game drive until the evening. You get a chance to see common resident animals like zebras, waterbucks, giraffes, dikdiks, impalas, elands, Grantโ€™s gazelles, vervet monkies, banded mongooses, olive baboon, wildebeests and cape buffaloes. Predators in Tarangire include lions, leopards and cheetahs. The beautiful landscape is composed of granitic ridges, river valleys, and swamps.

  • Day 8 Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Serengeti National Park

      After breakfast drive to Serengeti National Park via Ngorongoro Conservation Area with picnic lunch and arrival in the Serengeti on the southeastern side, entering the park through Naabi Gate for an afternoon game drive until shortly before sunset. The park is famous for its annual migration of millions of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles. Serengeti offers the most amazing game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffaloes, groups of elephants and giraffes, elands, impalas, grantโ€™s gazelles, lions, leopards and others can be spotted.

      Early Morning Game Drive In The Serengeti & Overnight Stay At Ngorongoro

      You will wake up early before 6 am to take part in a sunrise game drive, and if we are lucky we have the best opportunity to see predators in action as they take advantage of the low light and cooler temperatures to look for an early meal. Itโ€™s an ideal time to see lions, leopards, and cheetahs in action as well as the early morning movements of the wildebeest, zebras, and other herbivores. After your unforgettable morning, you will return to your lodge for a brunch and to freshen up before hitting the road again enjoying a game drive en-route to Ngorongoro.

      Please note: Even in case of Simple Lodge category, this night will be camping as there is no accommodation of Simple Lodge standard in the area. Clients who have booked the Simple Lodge option, will however get a portable field bed in their tent instead of a sleeping pad.

      Game Drive In The Ngorongoro Crater

      After breakfast, youโ€™ll depart for Ngorongoro Crater, the Eighth Natural Wonder of the World, home to over 120 species of mammals including the fabled Big Five. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the most sought-after safari destinations in the world. Itโ€™s a particularly good place to see the endangered black rhinoceros enjoying a lonely meal out on the grassy plains, as well as a place to see large numbers of hippos enjoying the cool water. From the comfort of your open-roof vehicle, youโ€™ll be able to observe and photograph some of Africaโ€™s most recognizable faces. The crater is home to a large number of predators including lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, and hyenas, as well as a large population of wildebeest, zebras, antelopes, cape buffaloes, and more. After the thrills and excitement of the day, you will have a picnic lunch by the parkโ€™s famous hippo pool. Thereafter, you will drive back to Moshi to your accommodation.

      You have a morning at leisure in Moshi to walk around the town or simply relax. In the afternoon you will visit Shah Industries, a workshop and shop for souvenirs made โ€‹โ€‹of leather and horn, where many people with impairment work.

      This is not the usual tourist-style short visit to a Maasai village, but you will stay there overnight and you will not only get to know the folkloristic aspects of Maasai life, but you will also experience how many Maasai live nowadays, adapting to modern times while keeping parts of their tradition. The Maasai will not only show you their traditional dance, houses, and handicrafts, but also their more modern houses, school and there will be enough time to drag the steppe with some Maasai and a herd of cattle or goats. In the evening, at the campfire, Maasai will teach you their games. You can sleep in a traditional Maasai house made of soil and dung without running water and electricity or alternatively stay a camping tent.

      We will continue the program of the day before. In the morning, you can milk the cows with some Maasai, and then accompany Maasai children to a river with a herd. In the afternoon, we drive back to Moshi where you can spend the evening at leisure.

      Today your adventure on the mainland of Tansania is ending, and you will have a transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your flight to Zanzibar. You will be picked up from Zanzibar airport and brought to your accommodation of choice in Zanzibar Town.

      In the afternoon, you will have a guided tour through Stone Town, the historic old town of Zanzibar Town, which is a maze of 1001 nights. Influences of continental Africa, Arabia, Persia, India and the British colonial time have merged into a unique cultural blend that cannot be found anywhere else.

      Today you get to learn why Zanzibar is called "the Spice Islandโ€œ: In the morning, you will take part in the "Spice Tourโ€œ, a guided tour through one of the many spice plantations. Besides exotic spices, also tropical fruits are grown here that you can see, smell and taste. 

      The afternoon you can spend at leisure in Zanzibar Town. Either you simply relax, go on a souvenir shopping trip in Stone Town or enjoy the sunset at the Forodhani Gardens.

  • Day 16 Full Day Trip "Safari Blueโ€œ With A Dhow

      Full Day Trip "Safari Blueโ€œ With A Dhow

      We will bring you to Fumba in the south of Zanzibar, where you will depart on a dhow, the traditional sailing ship of the Indian Ocean, to explore the natural wonders of Menai Bay. Chances are high to spot dolphins. You will enjoy a fruit snack on the sandbank, you can snorkel at a coral reef and swim in the crystal clear water of a lagoon. Later, on an island, you will have a beach barbecue including fish, lobster, chicken, vegetables and a tropical fruit tasting. You can also learn how to navigate a โ€œNgalawaโ€, the outrigger canoe of the local fishermen. In the late afternoon, we will sail back to Fumba and drive back to Zanzibar Town.

      Full Day Trip: Jozani Forest National Park, Butterfly Centre, โ€œMotoโ€ And Zanzibar Turtles & Tortoise Land

      The day starts with a guided tour through the Jozani Forest National Park, which is famous for its endemic Red Colobus Monkeys. Besides some colonies of monkeys, you can see the impressive plants and trees of this tropical rainforest and you can have a stroll through the mangrove area. After this, we will drive to the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre, East Africaโ€™s largest covered space for butterflies, which is a project of sustainable tourism. As the butterflies only live for a few weeks, the centre is in constant need of new butterflies. These are bred by the villagers of the nearby village under the guidance of a biologist named Pete and sold to the butterfly centre.

      Afterwards, we visit the womenโ€™s handcraft project โ€œMOTOโ€, where we will first have lunch. The women will then show us how they make wickerwork and braided objects. They also weave Kikoi fabrics that they tint, making use of solar water heaters. You can even try out everything yourself!

      Another highlight is a visit to the Zanzibar Turtles and Tortoise Land, a small zoo of local reptiles, which has the purpose of educating local school children about the importance of animal welfare and environmental protection. 

      You will then be brought to a beach hotel in Jambiani.

      After breakfast, you have a transfer from the beach hotel to the village of Kitogani near Jozani Forest National Park, and move into a large, fully furnished ecotourism tent at the nearby World Unite! Mother Nature Forest Camp. The accommodation is a true nature experience, making you feel as if your are in the middle of a tropical rainforest.

      After a fresh fruit juice welcome drink, you will meet your knowledgeable guide who will take you on a canoe trip through the mangroves between Zanzibarโ€™s main island Unguja and Uzi Island. It is the largest mangrove zone in Zanzibar. Mangroves are an important ecosystem for many birds and marine animals. 

      We will walk around Uzi Island and see the life of local farmers and fishermen. In the late afternoon, you will return to your accommodation in the forest, where you will be served a delicious local dinner.
