Itinerary of your trip Cycle Kili To Lake Natron Bike Adventure | Oclaa Adventures

  • Day 1 Moshi To West Kilimanjaro | 64K
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Moshi To West Kilimanjaro | 64K

Our ride today takes us from the greener southern side of Mt. Kilimanjaro towards the more arid western side of the mountain. Your ride today will initially take you through coffee and banana plantations as you cycle through the more fertile areas of southern Kilimanjaro but as you head west you will cycle through the more arid open plains and acacia woodlands. These plains support a remarkable variety of wildlife and spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro. While Moshi is home to the Chagga people, West Kilimanjaro plains are home to the nomadic Maasai people who co-exist with the surrounding wildlife and it is why this area is known as the Maasai Lands. Your ride today will be on both dirt and tarmac roads and you will finish the ride at the Olpopongi Maasai Village where you will be spending the night.

      Meals: Lunch and Dinner included
      Accomodation: Olpopongi Maasai Village

Today is another scenic day, at 08:00am we will start our bike ride to Ketumbeine village. On this day you will hit some hills but mostly it is flat sections. Any cultural experience with the Masaai is a colourful affair and one you will remember for a long time, youโ€™ll enjoy the hot lunch in the middle of the African bush.

      Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

      Accommodation: Mountain Kitumbeine Lodge

  • Day 4 Kitumbeine To Lake Natron | 80K
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Kitumbeine To Lake Natron | 80K

Today is something unique โ€“ youโ€™ll brave the unpaved roads which cut west across from Kitumbeine to Lengai. These arenโ€™t roads youโ€™ll find on Google Maps, and theyโ€™re often in poor condition, so youโ€™ll be praising your front suspension. The amazing views and car-free environment, however, make it worth the effort. The amount of cycling today will very much depend on the conditions โ€“ given the roads, there will be an estimated mix of cycling and driving especial from OlDoinyo Lengai to Natron but because youโ€™ll have a hot-lunch on the way then you can make all the kilometres.

What wonโ€™t change is the scenery, as you travel across dry open plains with the Kerimasi, Gilai and Kitumbeine mountains in the distance and closer by seven remarkable volcanos, the jewel being the spectacular and active OlDoinyo Lengai, (Mountain of Godโ€™ in the Maasai language). Close to your lodge is the shallow, salty Lake Natron. Often coloured bright pink or deep red due to algae, it is a mecca for the breeding โ€˜lesserโ€™ flamingo. Reaching temperatures above 40ยฐC and with a similar acidity to ammonia. When you arrive at the lodge youโ€™ll have ample time to cool off in the local swimming pool while the tilapia fish massage your body.

      Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

      Accommodation:  Maasai Giraffe lodge

  • Day 5 Lake Natron To Engaruka | 58K
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Lake Natron To Engaruka | 58K

Today is a long day as you leave Natron behind and climb the valley walls to the Rift Valley escarpment. First you will cycle a relatively flat section with the random rivers that come from the slopes of Mount OlDoinyo Lengai, with great views of Lake Natron itself while Mount OlDoinyo Lengai welcomes you with the great views. If youโ€™ll be comfortable with a short transfer from the camp to the junction of Longido and Engaruka which is 25KM. This option of transferring from Natron to this junction wonโ€™t change anything because it is the same way that you used on the last day.

Along the way you will interact with local Maasai people who are grazing their cows while Zebras and Wildebeests enjoying the same thing. As this day is a mixer of downhill and flat places so wonโ€™t be a really challenging day for you, but if yes our support car will be always there for you.

After lunch you can keep on riding for some kilometers then will transfer to Migombani Tented Camp where the tour will end.

      Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
      Accommodation: Migombani Tinted Camp

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Manyara To Ngorongoro Crater | 66K

Todayโ€™s ride will be the final and the toughest but the most rewarding. Youโ€™ll start off the day cycling from the dirt road back onto the tarmac road and head past the bustling town of Mto wa Mbu and the entry gate of Lake Manyara National Park. We will then proceed on a very tough cycle up the Great Rift Valley escarpment leaving behind a spectacular backdrop. Before reaching the top of the escarpment you will stop to catch your breath at the viewpoint overlooking the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park and its surroundings. If thereโ€™s ever a time to take a great selfie, itโ€™s here. You will then proceed on the tarmac road past the colorful Karatu town as you head towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your ride today will finish at the entrance gate to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area ( Loduare gate ) marking an end to a challenging but exciting 7 days tour on two wheels.
