This tour includes:

Guide

All group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you are interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.

  • Day 1 Day 1: Melbourne / Mt Buffalo National Park / Bright
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 1: Melbourne / Mt Buffalo National Park / Bright

Your adventure begins in Melbourne (Narrm in the language of the Wurundjeri people, who are the traditional owners of the land on which Melbourne is now located). You'll meet your group early this morning at 8am and then sit back and relax on the drive to Euroa where we will enjoy morning tea before continuing to Mount Buffalo National Park. With sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and sweeping views, this alpine wonderland will dazzle you with its natural beauty. After exploring some of the lower walks in the national park, weโ€™ll get settled into our home away from home for the next four nights in Bright, on the traditional lands of the Dhudhuroa, Taungurung, Waywurru, Gunaikurnai and Jaithmathang peoples. A picturesque town on the scenic Great Alpine Road, Bright is the perfect launching pad to explore some of the regionโ€™s best walking tracks.Accommodation: Guesthouse

Day 2: Mt Buffalo National Park / Bright

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your cosy guest house, where the atmosphere is as warm as your comfy bed each night. This morning, drive back to Mt Buffalo National Park, the traditional lands of the Taungurung peoples, to take on โ€˜The Big Walkโ€™. This spectacular trek to the top of the Buffalo Plateau climbs through tall forests and granite slopes. And as the altitude increase, so too does the scenery, with sweeping views of the Australian Alps. Finish the walk at The Gorge, perched atop a 300-meter sheer cliff with incredible panoramic views over the Alps. After the walk, kick back as we drive around the top of Mount Buffalo and marvel at the incredible granite formations that rise from the plateau below. Thereโ€™s plenty of wildlife that call Mount Buffalo home, so keep your eyes peeled for Lyrebirds, Eastern Rosellas, Wombats and Swamp Wallabies. After a big day of exploring the national park, head back to your cosy guesthouse for dinner with your group.Accommodation: Guesthouse

Day 3: Falls Creek / Bogong High Plains / Bright

After breakfast, youโ€™ll enjoy a slightly easier hike in the alpine meadows of the Bogong High Plains to the summit of Mount Nelse where youโ€™ll admire the surrounding views. Follow parts of the 650km Australian Alpine Walking Track, on the traditional lands of the Taungurung & Gunaikurnai peoples, that winds along ridges and plains in the high country of Victoria and New South Wales. Plus, visit one of the famous mountain huts of the Victorian high country. Many of these huts, dotted across the high country, were built in the 1800โ€™s and form part of the regionโ€™s heritage.Accommodation: Guesthouse
