Atlas Mountain Highs & The Heady Scent Of Roses !

We meet with you at your accommodation 8.00am.We meet with you at your accommodation Marrakech to depart 8.ooam and begin your journey to the Sahara via the historic, camel caravan trading route of the Moroccan south. Only by seeing, is to believe the spectacular road trip over the High Atlas Mountains & Tichka Pass that awaits you. On route you have the opportunity to visit a rural high quality culinary and cosmetic womens Argan Oil Co-operative before visiting the first Kasbah of the day taking a guided tour of the historically important Kasbah Telouet. Telouet is crumbling and in the process of being restored however the ornate Moroccan mosaics and intricate tiled interiors being reclaimed are beautiful and well worth seeing, as are the views from the Kasbah. It is also a lovely location to stop for lunch or refreshments alternatively we break for lunch at Ait Benhaddou. After lunch we tour, with a private guide, UNESCO Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, still home to a few remaining families and artisans, and also an important international film set location and was a featured site in the popular series ’Game Of Thrones’. Before begining the journey through the Dades you also make a brief visit to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film industry town for a photo opportunity of Kasbah Tiffoultoute. The Dades Valley is also known as the valley of the roses because quite simply, it is the rose growing capital of Morocco. The Dades Valley produces Moroccan rose oil for a number of large International perfume brands and produces rose products for both Moroccan and visitor markets therefore we stop to visit the main rose oil producing town of Kalaat M’gouna. If you visit in the month of May the scent that permeates the air is heavenly especially during the rose harvest festival. You continue your road trip today for approx 1hr passing by Berber villages with their traditional abode houses and red earthed rocky cliffs to arrive at Boumaine du Dades. The dramatic geology found in Tinghir province, so typical of this region, await you !

We meet with you at your accommodation after breakfast and take the short drive to Todra Gorge where you can explore the gorge on foot, side stepping if you wish, the many colourful vendors lining the road throgh the gorge and riverbed. You depart Todra for the approx 2hr journey to visit the ancient, spice market and camel trading town of Rissani where we stop for lunch of a Saharan speciality, the Saharan pizza ! Departing Rissani we take the approx 1hr drive to Merzouga and the Sahara, the towering dune set of Erg Chebbi are now in your sight ! On arrival at your hotel you are free to relax in this incredible and awe inspiring sandscape. You may wish to just explore the surrounding sands on foot, relax at the atmospheric hotel and in the pool or have us organise for you, optional qaud or buggy adventure, before dinner at your hotel.

Glamping Adventure In The Mighty Sahara & Meeting The Locals.

For a more relaxing start, we meet with you at your hotel this morning after breakfast, at a time of your choosing, before a 4×4 exploration of the surrounding Saharan villages. You visit with traditional Desert Nomads out in the Sahara for tea before returning to visit local, traditional, skilled Gnawa musicians, before having lunch with a Saharan family in their home. We return to your hotel after lunch and meet with your camel and guide for an approx 1hr magical ride into the Desert camp at approx 5pm (depending on the time of year) for a sunset journey and arrival at camp. Once at camp if the light permits, take an optional climb to the top of one of the towering dunes for a panoramic view of the sun setting over the Sahara. A view and experince you will never forget ! Alternatively, relax at camp taking in your ’out of this world’ ’wow’ factor surroundings and once settled at your glamping camp, enjoy later in the evening, traditional live Saharan music, campfire, dinner and Saharan hospitality.

For early risers and thrill seekers take an optional sunrise climb to the top of a large dune for ’never to be forgotton’ surreal moments and panoramic views of the Saharan basin below. For a further morning ’shot’ choose to sandboard down a dune once you have climbed it, always an exhilarating start to the day ! After breakfast you return to Merzouga via an approx 1hr camel ride out of camp to meet with our 4x4 and begin the full days journey through the Ziz Valley to Imperial city Fes. On route we make a brief visit to the date palm town of Erfoud before entering a differering landscape region to that of tthe Sahara. After journeying through the High Atlas Mountains at the begining of your tour, you now take the scenic journey along the Middle Atlas Mountains, a region suited to lovers of nature. We stop for lunch in the Berber mountain market town of Midelt, know for its Artisan carpet making, we have come just over mid-way in our days journey when we reach Midelt. After lunch you view on route the green and fragrant cedar forests of this area, the natural habitat and home of the Moroccan Barbery Monkeys. We stop for possible sightings in Azrou, an important Berber market town in the Middle Atlas before stopping for refreshments at Ifrane, Morocco’s ski town, yes we said ski town ! On reaching Ifrane you will feel as though you have arrived in an Alpine town, testament to the divertity that exists in Morocco, from Desert to the Alps all in one day ! From Ifrane we continue the approx just over 1hr journey to arrive in the Imperial city of Fes
