Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1 – Bucharest – Sinaia – Brasov – Sighisoara

Stop At: Peles Castle, Str. Pelesului 2, Sinaia 106100 Romania
Departure from Bucharest to Sinaia, also known as “The Pearl of the Carpathians”. This is a beautiful mountain resort located in the Carpathian mountains at 800 meters altitude. Here you will be visiting Sinaia Monastery and Peles Castle built by the first King of Romania, Carol I, to be a summer Royal residence. The castle is an architectural beauty and very modern (for that time) being the first castle in Europe having electric power.

Stop At: Brasov, Brasov, Brasov County, Central Romania, Transylvania
From Sinaia, we head to Brasov, an old medieval citadel, the most important commercial center from all the seven German Medieval Cities (Siebenbuergen). Visit the Old Town (the Historical Centre), followed by lunch.

Stop At: Sighisoara, Sighisoara, Mures County, Central Romania, Transylvania
Sighisoara, the only medieval citadel in Europe still populated (UNESCO heritage), being kept in the original form with the old medieval fortifications and the old towers.

Day 2: Day 2 – Sighisoara – Barsana – Sapanta – Sighetu Marmatiei

The region of Maramures, a place where the purity of nature blends with the beauty of the old villages, a place where the locals kept untouched their traditions, where the carved wood represents a common way of building.

Stop At: Barsana Monastery, Kloster, Barsana 437035 Romania
The wooden church Barsana built-in 1995, the most representative from all the wooden churches in Maramures and also “The Old Barsana” (UNESCO heritage), which was translated from the original place to another location using the old popular technique called “Dovetail”.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Sapanta-Peri Monastery, Sapanta Romania
The Merry Cemetery has gained originality and value by means of the chopped, carved and painted crosses on which the artisan has chiseled out versified epitaphs, most of them full of a remarkable sense of humor, particular to the area and to all the Romanians. The value of these works of art is recognized both at home and abroad. In the same village, you will be visiting the highest wooden church in the world called Sapanta Peri (78 metres).

Depending on the time, we may visit in the same city the most notorious communist prison in Romania.

Day 3: Sighetu Marmatiei – Ciocanesti – Moldovita – Sucevita – Voronet – Gura Humorului

Pass By: Bucovina Village Museum, Strada Stefan cel Mare, Suceava 720053 Romania
Bucovina is known for its painted monasteries, but also for the traditional houses adorned with beautiful floral and geometrical motifs, for its traditions kept over the centuries and for its hospitable people. On our way, we will be driving by Prislop Pass (charming landscape) and the first stop will be in Ciocanesti village, a unique place where all the houses are painted with traditional motifs, in the same place is “The Painted Eggs Museum”. We continue to North to visit the painted monasteries, unique for the originals frescoes both on the inside & outside walls, still preserved in the original style (some of these monasteries being UNESCO heritage).

Stop At: Moldovita Monastery, Vatra Moldovitei 727595 Romania
Moldovita Monastery built-in 1532, initially built as a monastery for monks and changed after as a convent for nuns.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Sucevita Monastery, Dn17a 169, Sucevita 727510 Romania
Sucevita which is the largest of all, looking more like a mighty fortress than a monastery. The monastic place, as the last one to be painted on the exterior walls, boasts the best-preserved frescoes of Bucovina.

Stop At: Manastirea Voronet, Strada Voronet 166, Voronet 725301 Romania
In the end, you will visit the most famous painted monastery of all, Voronet Convent also known as “The Sixtine Chapel of the Orient”. Erected in 1488, Voronet Monastery represented one of the first Moldavian creative elements showing a distinctive style. The church is a combination of Byzantine, Gothic and local elements. The exterior painting on the western wall depicts, on five registers, the Doomsday scene, unique in the whole world. The Voronet Monastery entered the universal cultural heritage also for having in the composition of the paintings the inimitable “Voronet blue”.

Day 4: Day 4 – Gura Humorului – Tulcea

Stop At: Tulcea County, Tulcea County, Southeast Romania
After breakfast, we will head to the Danube Delta. The journey will be long but beautiful going through many towns and villages giving you the opportunity of having an image of the city & countryside life. On our way, we will have a break for lunch. In the evening, we will arrive at our final destination, Tulcea, the Gate of the Danube Delta. This city is one of the oldest settlements on the Romanian territory, starting with the Greek colony during the 8th century B.C.

Day 5: Day 5 – Tulcea – Bucharest

Stop At: Danube Delta, Tulcea Romania
The day will begin with a tour by boat on the channels of Danube Delta (UNESCO heritage). The Danube Delta is the largest Delta in Europe and the best preserved, having a total surface of 3446 square kilometers. We will admire delta flora with specific vegetation of swamp and fauna with 133 species of fish and 327 species of birds, some of them migratory and some other local birds. Traditional fish lunch on the boat. At the end of the day, return to Bucharest.
