    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Acclimatization Day At Samagaon.

It is essential that we acclimatize for a period of at least one day before heading to higher altitudes. Health specialists suggest that you stay active and not just sit idle. Today we will head to the Gompa at Pugyen (4070m), a one day hike that leaves the trail between Syaula and Sama. We may also decide to carry on up this valley to the rugged terrain of the Pugin Glacier. Another option is a trek to Birendra Tal (lake - 3450m) and then a challenging climb to Manaslu Base Camp (4900m). It is understood that to the north of Birendra Tal is Milarepaโ€™s Cave (famous Buddha) that he used as a meditation retreat.

The valley then broadens before coming to Kermo Khadka and continues to the white Kani Gateway and entrance to Samdo (3860m). If time is on our side we will trek to the peak located above the village for outstanding views of Mt. Manaslu. If we need to further acclimatize we can take a 6 to 7 hour trek of 640 meters up to the moraine of the Fukang Glacier where you will have extensive views of several high passes used by locals to cross over into Tibet.

This is as high as we venture today without risking possible altitude sickness. This is also the last safe haven before reaching the pass. This leg of the trek is often subject to snowfall between mid - December to mid -March when snow frequently blocks passage through Larkya La Pass. Samdo Lodge is generally closed in winter months. Your guide will know beforehand if the lodge is in fact closed.
