After breakfast we will visit the oldest Wat Sisaket with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we will stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.

We then board speed train to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage City Luang Prabang. On arrival, transfer to hotel.

Day 3 Luang Prabang – City Tour – Khoang Si Waterfall – Sunset Cruise Dinner (B,D)

Breakfast, we then visit the Morning Market, where you will see such diverse offerings as dried buffalo skin, local tea and saltpeter among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. Then we visit the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. Continue to the National Museum at the former Royal Palace displays a lovely collection of artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through the last sovereign. Then transfer by private vehicle to Khouang Si waterfall. On the way, you can visit to the Lao ethnic minority group at Ban Na Ouane Village, H’Mong Village. Once at the waterfalls, take a leisurely hike through the national park towards the Khouang Si waterfalls and pass by the Asian bear rescue center. You will enjoy feeling the mist of the cool, turquoise waters of the different waterfalls. Swimming in the refreshing waters is possible.

Late afternoon, we go to boat pier to embark on a traditional cruise for sunset dinner. The 2.5 hours slow boat trip gives us the opportunity to see the view of the city from Mekong River. We continue sailing to Pha Tad Ke Botanical Garden with the most beautiful sunset area. Enjoy our time with dinner before returning to our pier. Transfer to the hotel for overnight.

Relish the remaining moment in Xieng Khouang before your private driver escorts you to the airport from where you will be flying to Vientiane.

At Vientiane airport, your driver and guide will pick you up and transfer you to your respective accommodation. You will have the rest of the day to yourself.

Today you will see the major sights of the capital, including the oldest Wat Sisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo. Then continue to Laos’ national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa. On the way, have a stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxai war monument, which is well-known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph.

In the afternoon, continue the sightseeing tour to Buddha Park, where you will see a scattered enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong riverside meadow, close to the Friendship Bridge. It has approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years. Finish your day with a spectacular view over the Mekong River.

After breakfast, we catch an early flight to Pakse. On arrival, our driver and guide will meet you and take you for a drive on the National Road No 13th south to Champassak to visit the fascinating pre-Angkorian ruins of Vat Phou. Take your time to explore these intriguing Khmer ruins. This wonderful archeological site of Khmer civilization dates back to the 10th century, predating the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia. We then continue our journey to Don Khong, the largest island in the South Mekong River region, also known as the Four Thousand Islands. It is one of the most scenic areas in Laos.

After an early breakfast, we drive to Ban Nakasang village and cruise to Ban Khone village. Explore the local villages of Ban Khone, where you will see an array of relics from the French colonial era and retrace the old colonial past, including old French colonial buildings and the remnants of the first Lao railway with its locomotive. We then continue exploring the Four Thousand Islands by local tuktuk. Visit the Liphi Waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls that marks the border between Laos and Cambodia. After, return to Ban Nakasang and drive to the famous Khone Phapheng Falls, the largest waterfall in South East Asia.

Day 9 Don Khong Island — Tadlo — Pakse (B)

Today, we leave Don Khong Island and continue our journey towards Tad Lo, through the Bolaven Plateau. The Bolaven Plateau is known for its cooler temperature and being high above the Mekong Valley. Rivers run off this high plateau in all directions before plunging into lush forests along and series of spectacular surging waterfalls. A trip to the plateau provides a refreshing break from the heat and allows you to observe the cultivation of rich coffee, tea, cardamom, bananas, and other agricultural products. During this trip, you will have a chance to venture off the beaten track and discover some of the lesser-known areas of Laos, and explore the wild beauty of this southern region. We also also visit Tad Lo waterfalls and the surrounding villages of Alak, Nge, and Katu. We return to Pakse by late evening.
