Day 4: Trek To Lama Hotel (2470M/8100Ft) 6-7 Hours/1070M Ascent

In Syabrubesi, the trail diverges from the main road. Heading north past a police post, we cross a suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi River. Turning right at the eastern end of the bridge, we then take a left and ascend into the village of old Syabrubesi. The villageโ€™s monastery, housed in a small stone building, is located at the far end of the village. After visiting the monastery, we follow the stone-paved main street out of town to a bridge over the Langtang Khola River. Crossing this bridge, we reach a junction where we continue straight, crossing a log bridge, and enjoy a scenic walk through wooded areas, a side stream, and landslides until we arrive at another suspension bridge and the Doman Waterfall.

As we traverse through several settlements and forests, we might spot wildlife such as yellow-throated martens, wild boars, langur monkeys, red pandas, Himalayan black bears, and various bird species. We then climb a rocky ridge, descend to river bridges, and pass waterfalls with a small hot spring across the river. A long climb through forests leads us to another trail junction. From there, the trail gently ascends to Bamboo.

Beyond Bamboo, the trail crosses the Dangdung Khola and climbs past a small landslide to a suspension bridge over the Langtang Khola. On the northern bank of the Langtang Khola, the route ascends alongside a series of waterfalls cascading over large boulders. We cross a dry forest of scrub oaks, cacti, and nettles, then climb steeply to a landslide in lower Rimche. Passing another trail junction in upper Renche, we continue gently upwards to Changtang, also known as Lama Hotel. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

  • Day 5 Day 5: Trek To Langtang (3430M/11254Ft) 4-5 Hours/980M Ascent
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Trek To Langtang (3430M/11254Ft) 4-5 Hours/980M Ascent

We begin by climbing through a steep forest of hemlocks, oaks, maples, and vibrant rhododendrons, ascending high above the Langtang Khola to reach Gumanchok. After crossing a stream, we tackle a steep climb to a pass marked by prayer flags, leading us to Ghora Tabela, which now serves as a Nepal Army and National Park Post.

The trail then ascends gradually as the valley widens into a classic U-shaped glacial valley. We follow the path across a helipad and yak pastures, climbing through rhododendron forests to arrive at Thangshyap. From here, the route ascends diagonally up the hillside, passing fields to reach Ghumba Village, which boasts a charming gompa to explore.

Continuing, the trail crosses a stream and climbs past several water-driven mills and prayer wheels, leading to the larger settlement of Langtang, the headquarters of Langtang National Park. In Langtang, we are treated to views of the impressive Langtang II (6,581m) and the massive twin waterfalls cascading from the rock wall above the town. The area is also rich in birdlife, including hawks, drab-colored cuckoos, fruit-eating barbets, owls, laughing thrushes, red-billed and yellow-billed magpies, parakeets, and more. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6: Trek To Kyanjin Gompa (3860M/12665Ft) 2-3 Hours/460M Ascent

The trail meanders through the village and ascends a ridge crowned with a large chorten. From there, we continue to climb gradually past a mani wall and cross a stream to reach the small village of Mundu. The path then follows the rushing river, leading us to a yak wool shop and the yak pastures of Yamphu. We climb a moraine to a viewpoint where we are rewarded with our first sight of Kyanjin Gompa and the stunning icefall descending from Langtang Lirung and Kimshung peaks.

Once at Kyanjin Gompa, we have ample time to acclimatize and explore the area, including a visit to the Nyingmapa school monastery. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
