  • Day 1 Day 1: Fly Form Kathmandu To Paro.

      Day 1: Fly Form Kathmandu To Paro.

      A representative and guide from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will be there to welcome you at the airport and then take you to your hotel. We will have a short tour in the afternoon close to our hotel. 

  • Day 2 Day 2: Walk Zurig Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, Ta Dzong, Paro Town, Kyichu Lhakhang And Drukgyel Dzong.

      Day 2: Walk Zurig Dzong, Rinpung Dzong, Ta Dzong, Paro Town, Kyichu Lhakhang And Drukgyel Dzong.

      Today we head through the pine forests to the monastery of Zurig Dzong. We then head to Ta Dzong, Bhutanโ€™s National Museum with glorious views over Paro, and to Rinpung Dzong (Fortress on a Heap of Jewels). The trail then crosses the Paro Chhu (river) via a traditional wooden bridge (Nyamai Zam) and past the main archery ground, Ugyen Pelri Palace, and finally into Paro. We will then drive north of Paro to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan with its magic orange tree that fruits year-round. If we have time we will head further up the valley to Drukgyel Dzong built in 1648 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to control the northern route to Tibet. Here we are close to the Tibetan border and in the distance, we can see Mt Jomolhari. We will then return to our hotel for dinner.

      The trek today begins at the National Museum situated just above Paro. We trek up through apple orchards, small farms and pass through ancient pine forest up to a ridge. Tonight we will set up camp in a yak pasture below Jele Dzong which sits perched on the ridge. The monks here welcome the sight of visitors. The Dzong was the former abode of Ngawang Chhogyel (1465-1540) cousin of the famous Lama Drukpa Kunley also referred to as the โ€œDivine Madmanโ€. On a clear day, you can see down to Paro and to Mt. Jomolhari (7314m). We will camp overnight at Jele Dzong (3,436m).

  • Day 4 Day 4: Dsy 04: Jele Dzong (3,450M) To Jimilang Tsho (3880M)

      Today we cross Jele La Pass (3490m) and head down through the pine and rhododendron forests of pine and rhododendron. We then climb up to a yak herdersโ€™ pasture and will stop for lunch at Jangchu Lakha (3780m) from where we have fantastic views of the Himalayan Mountains. After lunch, we head up to a ridge at 4,020 meters and then to Jangchu La Pass (4180m). We then have a steep descent to the trout-filled Jimilang Tsho Lake (3880m). Close to our campsite, we have some great views that include the sacred mountain, Jichu Drake (6989m). Our camp will be set up near the lake at 3,880 meters.

      The trail this morning takes us through rhododendron trees and past Janye Tsho (Janet So) Lake. On the trail, we will also come across several camps where the yak herders stay. The trail today is undulating and offers fantastic views of the Himalaya down into deep valleys. Simkota Tsho Lake (4,110m) is also visible from the ridge. The trail continues until we come to a yak grazing pasture where we will camp the night.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Simkotra Tsho (4,090M) To Thimphu (2400M)

      The morning we climb up to a saddle at 4150 meters before heading down to a small lake then up to the Phume La Pass (4210m) which is festooned with colorful prayer flags. From here you can see Thimphu way below us. We will follow the trail downhill to the pilgrimage site at Phadjoding (3870m) and on through a pine and juniper forest down to the road at Motithang on not far from Thimphu. We have the remainder of the afternoon free to explore Thimphu. We will stay here at a hotel tonight.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Thimphu To Punakha Valley Via Dochu La.

      This drive today follows a zigzag road up to the 3,140-meter high Dochu La Pass with its prayer flags and numerous memorial chortens. On a fine day, you can view the Himalayan ranges. Further upriver among the terraced hills, past Punakha Dzong is where we will stay for the next two nights at a hotel. We will visit the museum, monastery, temples, and Dzong here at Punakha Valley. 

  • Day 8 Day 8: Punakha Dzong, Khamsan Yuley Namgay Chorten Walk, Chimmi Lhakhang.

      We will spend the day exploring the Punakha Valley that is at a low altitude of 1,200m and where bananas and oranges are grown. Today we will walk up to Khamsan Yuley Namgay Chorten. The chorten depicts a rainbow image of Guru Rinpoche. We will head down to the river and visit the 17th-century Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Shabdung Ngawang Namgyal built at the junction of the Po Chhu and Mo Chhu (Father and Mother rivers). It is now the winter home of Je Khempo, the head abbot of Bhutan and 1,000 monks. This afternoon we have a short walk to Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple devoted to Drukpa Kunley, a Tibetan Buddhist saint also known as the โ€œDivine Madmanโ€. This is a pilgrimage site for couples hoping to start a family.

      We will have dinner at the hotel where we stay tonight.


  • Day 9 Day 9: Punakha Valley To Paro Via Chuzom And Tamchhu Lhakhang.

      Day 9: Punakha Valley To Paro Via Chuzom And Tamchhu Lhakhang.

      Today we head back over the Dochu La Pass and to the junction of the Chuzum River where there are three shrines in Nepali, Tibetan and Bhutanese style that were constructed to ward off evil spirits near the checkpoint. We may also head to Tamchhu Lhakhang built by Thangtong Gyalpo, the โ€œIron Bridge Builderโ€. This 14th century saint first introduced the art of building suspension bridges with iron chains and only by crossing one of these bridges is how we reach his temple. The road then meanders its way along the banks of the Pa Chhu River passing through apple orchards, rice paddies, past charming homesteads until we reach our hotel in the mountains. After checking in we can try our hand at the Bhutanese national sport of archery or indulge in a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Highlights Of The Paro Valleyโ€“Taktsang Walk.

      Today we will head to the โ€œTigerโ€™s Nestโ€, Taktsang Gomba (monastery) that sits perched on the side of a cliff and is said to be where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) landed on the back of a flying tigress which is how Buddhism arrived in Bhutan from Tibet. It is a two-hour climb to the Tigerโ€™s Nest viewpoint. On the way up we pass a waterfall before coming to the main gates which are decorated with murals. We can then head back down or alternatively head further up and explore some of the more remote temples and monasteries. This evening we will celebrate with a farewell dinner. We will stay at a hotel overnight.

      After breakfast at our hotel we will head to Paro International Airport for your flight home from this remarkable country.
