  • Day 1 Day 1: Fly From Kathmandu To Paro.

      Day 1: Fly From Kathmandu To Paro.

      After arriving at Paro airport your passport will be stamped with a visa. You will need your visa approval letter and two passport size photos. Your guide will be there to meet you and take you to your  3 star hotel.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Paro Sightseeing

      Day 2: Paro Sightseeing

      Today we will visit the ruined fortress of Drukgyel Dzong which was a fortress and Buddhist monastery located in the upper part of the Paro District, Bhutan. The Dzong was probably built by Tenzin Drukdra in 1649 to celebrate a victory over the invading Tibetans. We will also hike to Taktsang monastery, a 45-minute uphill trek through villages and a pine forest. The monastery clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro valley. In the afternoon we head through the beautiful valley to the museum located within the Ta-Dzong building. It was established in 1968 by the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The seven floors museum highlights various aspects of Bhutanese culture and history dating back to the 7th century. A short walk downhill is the Rinpung Dzong which is the administrative center and school for monks. From here we cross a bridge and head back to Paro Town for a walk around the market. We will stay here overnight in a 3 star hotel. 

  • Day 3 Day 3: Paro To Thimphu.

      the afternoon visit: the Memorial Chorten built-in memory of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the 15th-century Changangkha Monastery, Motithang Takin Preserve to see the rare Takin โ€“ the national animal of Bhutan. A little further on we can look down on the beautiful Thimphu Valley. We will also visit the new Drupthob Nunnery Monastery. You will then have some free time to wander around the market. We will stay in a 3-star hotel tonight.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Thimphu To Wangdi.

      Day 4: Thimphu To Wangdi.

      This morning we will pay a visit to the royal goldsmith workshop, the traditional Bhutanese painting school, the National Library, and several handicraft centers. In the afternoon we will drive for around three hours to Wangdue Phodrang via the Dochula Pass (3100m). In good weather, you can see the eastern mountain ranges as well as the highest mountain in Bhutan, Mt.Gangkhar Puensum (7570m). From the pass, we head down to the valleys of Lobesa and on to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong to the markets. We will stay here overnight at a 3-star hotel.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Wangdi To Gangtey Valley To Wangdi.

      Day 5: Wangdi To Gangtey Valley To Wangdi.

      Today we head to the Gangtey Gompa (monastery) in the Gangtey Valley, also known as the Phobjikha Valley. The only Nyingmalung monastery in western Bhutan is located here. This beautiful valley is also the migratory home to the rare Black Necked Cranes from the Tibetan plateau. The cranes spend about four to five months here while escaping the more harsh Tibetan winter. We will have time to wander around and explore this amazing glacier-carved valley and then return to Wangdue. Tonight we will stay at a 3-star hotel.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Wangdi - Punakha - Thimphu - Paro.

      Day 6: Wangdi - Punakha - Thimphu - Paro.

      This morning we drive for about 45 minutes to Punakha and visit the Punakha Dzong which was once the old capital of Bhutan. This incredible fortress is located between two rivers and has survived many glacial floods and fire. In February a procession known as the Punakha Serda takes place to commemorate the victory over the Tibetans. We will then drive for around three hours to Thimphu in time for lunch and then another two hours to Paro, via the oldest building in Bhutan, the Simtokha Dzong. It is now a Buddhist university. We will stay here overnight at a 3-star hotel.


  • Day 7 Day 7: Transfer To Airport For Departure.

      This is our last day in this amazing kingdom as we head to Paro Airport for our flight back to Kathmandu or other destinations. Sherpa Expedition & Trekking can arrange your ticket from and return to Kathmandu with Druk Air. This journey through Bhutan will be a talking point for many years. Very few people get to visit this remarkable forgotten kingdom.
