This tour includes:

Meals

Itinerary of your trip Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek - 27 Days

  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Kathmandu (1,350M) & Transfer To Hotel.

      Day 1: Arrival In Kathmandu (1,350M) & Transfer To Hotel.

      A representative from Sherpa Expedition & Trekking will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Thamel โ€“ the tourist center of Kathmandu. Today, or early tomorrow morning we will have a pre-trek meeting where you will have a chance to ask questions about the trek. You will also be introduced to your guide. Please bring your passport, 3 passport size photos and a copy of your travel insurance policy. This is also the time to clear up outstanding fees. During your free time today, you can meander around the winding narrow streets of Thamel and do some last-minute shopping before your trekking journey to Kanchenjunga.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing

      Today we will drive to several historical and well known historical sites in Kathmandu. Your guide will take you to the famous Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world, and to the pagoda-shaped temple of Lord Shiva that is visited by thousands of people every year. We will also visit the Bouddhanath Stupa, a place where pilgrims visit โ€“ both Buddhist and Hindu. This is considered one of the most important Buddhist temples in the world. Another place we will head to is the well-known Swayambhunath Temple (the monkey temple). Our final destination is Durbar Square with its unique architecture and temples. 

  • Day 3 Day 3: Fly From Kathmandu To Bhadrapur And Drive To Ilam.

      This morning we take a 45-minute flight to Bhadrapur and from there we will drive to Ilam. Ilam is famous and has Nepalโ€™s largest tea plantations. We stay overnight in Ilam.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Drive To Taplejung (1820M) 5-6 Hours.

      This morning we again hit the road and drive to Taplejung where we will stay overnight.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Trek To Sinuwa (980M) 5-6 Hours.

      Today we follow the trail through lush green hills passing by rivers and trek along some steep ridges. On the trail, we pass several traditional villages with their characteristic mud houses, terraced rice fields, fruit trees, and farms before descending to the Tamur River at which point we head upstream passing several isolated villages. We finally reach the Tamang village of Sinuwa where we stay the night.

      Not long after leaving Sinuwa Village, the valley narrows as we cross the remains of landslides and step over boulders before descending to Thiwa Khola where we cross over a wooden bridge. The trail then follows the undulating and natural contour of the ground before arriving at the market town of Chirwa.

      This morning we climb a spur and then head down to the Simbuwa Khola (river) and then cross a bridge over the river formed by the Yalung Glacier. After another ridge, we reach Ghunsa Khola Valley. Once we reach the convergence of Tamur and Ghunsa Khola rivers, we continue to walk a little further before setting up camp beside the river.

      From Sakathum we trek to the northeast along the banks of the Ghunsa Khola and then climb higher and head to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The trek takes us crosses a barren terrain and then we have a steep climb to the Tibetan village of Amjilosa, where we stay the night.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Trek To Gyabla (2730M) 5-6 Hours.

      Today the trail heads through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Climbing higher we come to a huge waterfall on the side of the river at which point we take the trail to Gyabla from where we have excellent views of the surrounding terrain.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Trek To Gunsa (3595M) 4-5 Hours.

      From Gyabla the trail passes through a big meadow and through a small village. We then climb a hill before descending to the river before coming to Gunsa Village, a large Tibetan village with its traditional wooden houses, a school, health post, and its very own hydro-electricity plant. The village falls within the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area and has several Gompas (Buddhist fortifications/temples) where people regularly rest and swap stories of their journey. Tonight we stay in Gunsa, the last village in the valley.

  • Day 11 Day 11: Acclimatization Day In Ghunsa.

      Ghunsa is a perfect location and at a high enough altitude for us to acclimatize. It is highly recommended that throughout the acclimatization period we do not remain idle. To stay active we will trek across the river to an altitude of 400 meters above the village, approximately a 4-hour return trip. For the rest of the day, we will stroll around this Tibetan village and chat to the locals and examine their rich Buddhist culture.

  • Day 12 Day 12: Trek To Khambachen (4050M) 5-6 Hours.

      The trail today takes us through striking pine and rhododendron forests along the south bank of the Ghunsa Khola with numerous chortens and Mani walls adorning the trail. After trekking across several slopes and glacier moraines we come to Kambachen - a small Tibetan village with only a few houses and encircled by mountains. Tonight we stay in this charming little village.

  • Day 13 Day 13: Trek To Lhonak (4780M) 3-4 Hours.

      Today we follow a trail to the very source of the Ghunsa Khola (river) and trek along the north side of the Kanchenjunga Glacier. We then follow the trail across a flat terrain past the Lhonak Glacier until we come to Lhonak. At this elevation, the air is fresh and cool, but we are compensated by the impressive views of Wedge Peak, Mera Peak, Nepal Peak, and the Twins that will leave you awestruck. Tonight we stay at Lhonak.

  • Day 14 Day 14: Trek To Kanchenjunga Base Camp (5140M) And Back To Lhonak (4,780M) 6-7 Hours.

      Today we head east following the Lhonak Glacier on the northern ridges to reach KBC. KBC is also called Pang Pema and from here we have more stunning mountain views. We will then return to Lhonak to spend the night at a lower elevation.

  • Day 15 Day 15: Trek To Ghunsa (3595M) 6-7 Hours.

      Today we will retrace our footsteps back to Ghunsa where we will stay the night.

  • Day 16 Day 16: Trek To Sele La Kharka (4200M) 5-6 Hours.

      Today we follow a steep and rocky trail through a forest and will eventually emerge at High Camp. Sele la Kharka is just above the high pass and is where we will spend the night.

  • Day 17 Day 17: Cross Sele La Pass & Trek Down To Tseram (3870M) 6-7 Hours.

      We have an exciting day ahead of us as we trek through these two high altitude passes: Sele La Pass (4480m) and Sinion La Pass 4660m). We then descend for about 1000 metres until we come to Tseram where we stay overnight.

  • Day 18 Day 18: Trek To Oktang Base Camp (4730M) And Back To Ramche (4580M) 6-7 Hours.

      Today we cross the bottom of Yalung Glacier and into a craggy naked valley. The peaks in this region span the Nepal- India border. There is also a lake and a meadow in Ramche where blue sheep can be seen grazing on the grassy slopes. After leaving Ramche we trek along rocky trails and cross moraines until we finally reach Oktang Glacier. We then head back to Ramche for the night.

  • Day 19 Day 19: Trek Back To Tseram (3870M) 4-5 Hours.

      From Ramche we retrace our footsteps to Tseram where we stay the night.

  • Day 20 Day 20: Trek To Lashya Bhanjyang (3370M) 6-7 Hours.

      Today we head down to Simbuwa Khola as we retrace our footsteps. This is also much easier and allows us time to appreciate the surrounding views and forest orchids in the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. We pass through Toronton Village and then arrive at Lashe Bhanjyang that sits just below the Amji Khola (river) where we will stay the night.

      This morning we head out and pass through a dense pine forest and will hear the sounds of birds chirping along the trail. After crossing the Amji Khola we descend to Yamphudin where we stay the night.

      Today we descend and follow a trail along the banks of the Kabeli Khola where there are numerous waterfalls plunging down to the river. We then come to Phumphe where we will stay the night.

      The first leg of our trail requires us to climb a ridge. We then descend down the sides of several valleys and pass Phun Village. After arriving at Kesawa we climb higher until we reach the Gurung settlement of Bhanjyang. We will stay here overnight next to the Pha Khola (river).

  • Day 24 Day 24: Trek To Simbu & Drive To Taplejung (1580M) 6-7 Hours.

      It is the final day on the trail as we trek to Simbu from where we drive to Suketar and Taplejung Village where we will stay the night. Today is a long and exhausting trek!

      Today we can sit back and relax on our road trip to Birtamod in the Jhapa District. after a 7-9 hour journey. We will stay the night at Birtamod that is just a short distance from Bhadrapur.

      Early this morning we will fly back to Kathmandu. We will take you back to your hotels in Thamel where you can truly unwind from this physically demanding trek to the far-away regions of Kanchenjunga. There are numerous bars, cafes and clubs where you can enjoy the night!

  • Day 27 Day 27: Transfer To Tribhuvan International Airport.

      A representative from Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport at least three hours prior to you scheduled departure. You will take with you some warm memories of your time here. You may also be considering your next trek with us into another remote region of Nepal โ€“ such as Kanchenjunga Circuit.
