      The former capital of Guatemala not only impresses with its location in the middle of three volcanoes, but above all with its beautiful colonial architecture. Colorful whitewashed house facades, old churches and cobblestone streets give the small town a special atmosphere. On a morning tour, you will discover La Mercad church, the central main square and the Santo Domingo monastery. Spend the rest of the time at your leisure: linger in the park, enjoy a coffee in one of the flower-filled patios or stroll through the alleyways.       On the way to the Caribbean coast, you stop at the excavations of Quirigua, whose elaborate stelae are among the highest in the Mayan world (UNESCO World Heritage Site). From Rio Dulce, you continue by boat to Livingston. The small, tranquil Garifuna village opens up a completely new side of Guatemala for you: a pure Caribbean feeling!       You will leave your idyllic hotel by boat: During a tour of about 2.5 hours you will sail along the freshwater river Rio Dulce. On the shore you can spot various bird species. From the water you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the San Felipe fortress. The trip is then interrupted by a visit to a local development project that provides schooling for Maya Qeqchi children. Upon arrival, the tour bus will continue to Yaxha. Your simple ecolodge today is located right on Yaxha Lake, in the middle of a small tropical einod. Your neighbors include howler monkeys and other rainforest inhabitants. 1 night in Yaxha. (B/A)

You will explore the site with your guide off the beaten track and enjoy the breathtaking view over the peaks of the jungle from the top of temple 216.       Day 12: Mayan Site Tikal

      The highlight of every Guatemala trip awaits you: the visit to the largest archaeological site of the Maya world: Tikal (UNESCO World Heritage Site). While it is still dark, you will make your way to Temple IV so that you can reach your vantage point just in time for sunrise. The night hike through the awakening jungle alone will be a unique experience! After sunrise, your guide will take you to Temples III and V, the North and Central Acropolis, and the Astrological Observatory, among others. Here you will get a first-hand explanation of Mayan astronomy and astrology. Afterwards you will drive to Flores, where you can do a little exploration in the afternoon. Afterwards you will go to the airport of Flores and take a domestic flight to the capital. In the evening you will meet again for a farewell dinner together. 1 night in Guatemala City. (B/A)
