This trip is organized and run by Christopher Bartlett, the founder of Indigo Safaris and Best of PNG. He has attended every festival since 2010 and has been leading tours to the festival since 2011. Christopher is also a professional photographer, and is on hand to give practical tips to help you get the most out of the incredible photo opportunities on this trip.

Meals

Meals are not included. Breakfast and dinner are available at the hotel, lunch on Friday is provided, and on Saturday and Sunday there is food at the showgrounds that can be purchased very cheaply.

Flights

Flights are not included but can be booked through us after booking the tour. Return flights from Port Moresby for these dates are around $500 USD currently.

      Today you will be met at the airport and taken to your accommodation.

  • Day 2 Asaro Mudmen
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Asaro Mudmen

      This morning you will be picked up by coach and taken to the Asaro Valley, 45 minutes from Goroka. Here you will spend the day with your guide attending the Best of PNG Asaro Mudmen day. You will learn about Asaro history and culture through performances and demonstrations. Lunch is included. At the end of the day, return to Goroka. 

  • Day 3 Goroka Highlands Cultural Festival
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Goroka Highlands Cultural Festival

      From 9 AM, groups from around the highlands and beyond will enter the showgrounds in central Goroka, adorned with their traditional dress. It is a riot of colour and sound. As a VIP pass holder, you have access to the showgrounds as the groups come in, and can take as many pictures and videos as you desire. Once the last group is in, around midday, the gates are opened for the local visitors to enter, creating an amazing atmosphere. You can stay in the field, or retire to the shaded seating at the grandstand.

Additionally, Goroka is home to Wahgi National Park, where visitors can enjoy stunning landscapes and go hiking. The Goroka Museum is another highlight, showcasing traditional artifacts and tribal art.
