Day 8: Trek From Lobuche To Gorak Shep (5,170 M.) & Hike To Everest Base Camp And Back To Gork Shep (5,364 M) Duration 7-8 Hours.

We slowly head to higher elevations passing Gorakshep Lake and then a little further on we come to another memorial, one that honors Indian mountaineers who have died on the mountain. Walking now is more physically demanding because of the thinner air at this high altitude. The trail is rugged and has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before we arrive at EBC. One of the first things that grab your eye on arriving at EBC is the diverse array of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions before an attempt on Everest. From EBC we can clearly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow reflecting off their peaks. After a rest and scout around EBC we return to Gorakshep for the night.

We head out in the pre-dawn darkness, with temperatures around -10 to -14C, as we head out on the short trail to Kala Patthar. There is also a strong possibility of strong winds that will add to the pre-dawn cold. In the east are the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Everest also begins to appear on the horizon. At the summit of Kala Patthar we will be ecstatic as we admire the 360 degree views and worldโ€™s tallest mountain - Mt. Everest that appears right before your eyes in the early morning light. After taking snaps of Everest we will then descend to Pheriche for the night.

We are more than likely going to encounter mountain goats and other animals as we descend through the forest. The trail comes to Sansa from where we get fantastic views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse. We eventually arrive at Namche Bazaar where we will stay the night.
