Day 3: Acclimatization Day At Namche Bazaar.

This is a very important day and is necessary for you to acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. Health authorities strongly recommend you stay active and keep on the move during this period. We will take a short trek to Thame or otherwise visit Khunde. We may choose to explore Namche Bazaar, the commercial centre of the Everest Khumbu region. If you arrive on either Friday evening or on Saturday you will have a chance to see the regular weekly market. Your guide may also take you higher up the mountain to the Tourist Visitor Centre close to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park. It is a fascinating place that displays many pieces of equipment and relics from the early mountaineers. You can also learn about the Sherpa people and the flora and fauna in the region.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

As we head toward Tengboche we have some great views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse Shar, Taboche, Khangtega, and Thamserku peaks. Further along the trail we come to an army post at Phunke Tenga. The afternoon leaves us free to visit the Buddhist monastery at Tengboche.

Today is a much more relaxing day with an easy trek to Dingboche โ€“ except for the last part where we have to climb a steep hill which will remind us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically tiring. We will first pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho. Further along the trail we come to a fork and take the left trail that heads to Pheriche Village, then cross a bridge before that steep climb up to Dingboche Village (4410m) that has several lodges for us to choose from.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Acclimatization Day At Dingboche.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Acclimatization Day At Dingboche.

Today is the second day we have allocated to acclimatize. In order to stay active, strongly recommended by health specialists, we will climb 400 meters to Nangkartshang Gompa that sits on a ridge just north of Dingboche Village. From here we have views of Mt. Makalu (8,463m), the worldโ€™s fifth highest mountain, and Mt. Ama Dablam. If you are feeling energetic then we can climb up to the summit at Nangkartshang (5090m).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Dingboche To Lobuche (4940) 5-6 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Dingboche To Lobuche (4940) 5-6 Hours.

This morning we head to Dughla Village and then cross the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier, having to cross slopes covered with boulders. We then ascend to Chupki Lhara that has an array of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while attempting to climb Mt. Everest. As we head to the Khumbu Glacier moraine a number of huge peaks are clearly visible before us: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you stunned! We will stay in a lodge tonight.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 8: Trek From Lobuche To Gorak Shep (5,180M), And Visit Everest Base Camp (5,364M) 7-9 Hours.

We slowly get nearer to our ultimate destination of EBC, gradually climbing to higher elevations passing along the way Gorakshep Lake and then further on come to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died on the mountain. Walking now is going to be more physically challenging as a result of the thinner air at this high altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before we arrive at EBC. The first thing we see on arrival at EBC is the contrasting array of colorful tents of mountaineers who are patiently waiting for the right conditions before attempting a climb to the summit. From EBC we can easily see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow glistening on their peaks. After a rest and look around EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for a well earned nightโ€™s sleep.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Hike To Kala Pathar (5550M) And Trek Pangboche (3985M) 7-9 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Hike To Kala Pathar (5550M) And Trek Pangboche (3985M) 7-9 Hours.

We head out in the fresh pre-dawn darkness, with temperatures around -10 to -14C and head to Kala Patthar. There is also the possibility of strong winds that will add to the chill factor. In the east are the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Everest also starts to make an appearance. Upon reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be overjoyed as we take in the 360 degree views and the enormous and intimidating Mt. Everest that appears right in front of us. Now is the time to have your camera out and to take some grand snapshots of Everest that will be a reminder years later. We will then descend to Pangboche.

On this leg of the trail we may see pheasants and mountain goats (Himalayan Thar). We then come to Sanasa from where we have some great views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku Khangtega and Nuptse mountains. Our next stop is at the thriving town of Namche Bazaar.

This is our last day on the trail. The first village we come to is Monju. We follow the same trail as before to Lukla via Phakding. Along the trail we have extensive views down over the valleys inhabited by Sherpa villagers. After arriving at Lukla we have some time on our hands and can explore the village. In the evening we will have a dinner with our guides to celebrate the successful conclusion of the EBC trek.
