Today is dedicated to acclimatizing, which is necessary before heading to higher altitudes later on the trek. Health experts strongly recommend staying active during this time in order to better acclimatize. In order to stay active we can take a trek to Thame or to Khunde. We may also explore Namche Bazaar and check out the weekly market that takes place on Friday evening and on Saturday mornings. Your guide will also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park that has an interesting display of equipment and relics of the earlier Everest climbers. This is also an opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of this region.

The trail also offers spectacular mountain views as we gradually head higher to 3860 meters at Tengboche Village, well-known for its decorative wall hangings and 6 meter Buddha, Tibetan musical instruments and brightly colored Lama robes. A highlight here will be witnessing the evening prayer by the monks at the monastery that is calming and great for your soul.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Trek To Dingboche (4,481M) Duration 4-5 Hours.

Today is an easy one as we trek to Dingboche, except for the last leg where we have to ascend a steep hill which reminds us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically challenging. At the beginning of todayโ€™s trek we pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho. Further along the trail we come to a fork and take the left fork that takes us to Pheriche Village and then across a bridge before we head up that steep hill to Dingboche Village (4410m) where we will stay the night.

We push higher to Chupki Lhara that has an assortment of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while attempting to climb to the summit of Mt. Everest. On the trail to the Khumbu Glacier moraine several huge peaks are right before our eyes: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you astonished!  We will stay in a lodge here overnight.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Trek To Gorak Shep (5,180M) & Visit Everest Base Camp (5,364M) Duration 6-7 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 8: Trek To Gorak Shep (5,180M) & Visit Everest Base Camp (5,364M) Duration 6-7 Hours.

We are slowly getting closer to our destination as we head higher. Along the trail we come to Gorak Shep Lake and then to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who died while attempting to climb to the summit of Mt. Everest. Walking now is noticeably more physically demanding as a result of the thinner air at this high altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before arriving at EBC. The first thing that you notice on arrival at EBC is the different array of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for just the right conditions before a climb to the summit. From EBC we can plainly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow radiant on their peaks. After a short rest and look around EBC we then descend back to Gorak Shep for a well earned nightโ€™s sleep.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Hike Up To Kala Patthar (5,550M) And Trek To Pheriche (4,300M) Duration 7-8 Hours.

This morning we need to be up very early in order to arrive at Kala Patthar as the sun rises over the mountains.  With temperatures often around -10 to -14C you will appreciate the hike to warm-up. There is also the possibility of strong winds that will add to the chill factor. In the east, the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse and Everest start to appear before us. On reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be overjoyed as we take in the 360 degree views and the enormous and daunting Mt. Everest that appears right in front of you. This is a good time to have your camera out and take some incredible snaps of Everest that will be a reminder for years after you depart Nepal. We will then head back down to Gorak Shep for breakfast and then on to Pheriche for the night.

Today we make our way slowly down to Debouche on a trail through a rhododendron forest before coming to Tengboche, famous for its Buddhist monastery as well as for offering incredible views of the surrounding peaks. We then descend further to the village of Phunki Thenga (3,250m/10,663ft) located on the banks of the Imja Khola (river). We lastly head to Sanasa and then on to Namche Bazaar where we will stay the night.

  • Day 11 Day 11: Trek To Lukla (2,642M) Duration 6-7 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 11: Trek To Lukla (2,642M) Duration 6-7 Hours.

Once more we retrace our footsteps back to Phakding on our final day on the trail. We should arrive at Lukla with time to spare that will allow us to explore the village and nearby countryside. You can now relax while looking back on what you have accomplished on this trek. You will most likely spend some time looking back over your photos and catch up on emails to your family and friends. This is the time for self-congratulations as you enjoy that feeling of completing this physically demanding trek. In the evening you can celebrate with a few drinks.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm
