      Upon arrival in Kathmandu, our guide will arrange for airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. You can choose to visit the Alpine Club of Himalayaโ€™s office in Thamel or rest at the hotel in the late afternoon. In the evening, a welcome dinner will be hosted by your agent, featuring excellent authentic Nepalese cuisine to introduce you to the local food culture.

      Day 2: Kathmandu: Sightseeing And Trek Preparation

      After breakfast, we enjoy a guided tour of Kathmanduโ€™s most historical and spiritual attractions, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites. These include Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous โ€˜Monkey Templeโ€™ (Swayambhunath), and the massive Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world. Following the tour, weโ€™ll meet fellow participants and discuss our trip at the Alpine Clubโ€™s office. We will spend the night in Kathmandu.ยญ

      After breakfast, weโ€™ll head to the domestic terminal for an early morning flight to Lukla. Flying over breathtaking green and white mountains, weโ€™ll land at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, one of the worldโ€™s most scenic air routes, culminating in a hillside landing surrounded by high mountains. Upon arrival, weโ€™ll meet our crew members, make final arrangements, and begin our trek through the prosperous village of Lukla to Phakding. To aid acclimatization, todayโ€™s hike is short. If interested, you can take a side trip to a nearby monastery. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Phakding.

      After breakfast, weโ€™ll walk through beautiful pine forests and along the Dudh Koshi River, ending our nature-filled journey at Namche Bazaar. After about an hour of walking, weโ€™ll see the glistening Mt. Thamserku (6,608m) on the right and enjoy the serenity of pine, fir, and juniper forests. If the weather is clear, we might catch a glimpse of Mt. Everest peering over the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. Our walk continues to the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park and on to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Mt. Everest and the main trading center of the region. Today, weโ€™ll cross five suspension bridges, including the highest one, the Hillary Bridge. From there, itโ€™s an uphill walk to Namche Bazaar, where weโ€™ll spend the night.

      Today is set aside for acclimatization. Health experts recommend staying active and moving around even on rest days. You have several options for today: you can stroll around Namcheโ€™s quaint villages, interact with the Sherpa people and experience their rich culture, or hike up to the Everest View Hotel for an up-close view of the mighty Everest. While exploring Namche or after returning from the hike, you may also visit the local museum, which has exhibits on the areaโ€™s native flora and fauna and the history of the Mount Everest region.

      The trail heads west along the Bhote Koshi River valley, offering fantastic views of the Himalayas, including Kongde Ri (6,187m), Khumbi Yul La (5,765m), and Kusum Kanguru (6,373m). Our first village is Phorte, home to a tree nursery established by Sir Edmund Hillaryโ€™s Himalayan Trust. We continue along the balcony path and descend to the river, crossing a bridge before making a steep climb to Thame. Thame is situated at an important junction on the old primary trade route to and from Tibet via the Nangpa La pass. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Thame.

      We climb up to the famous airstrip of Syangboche. Just above the airstrip is the Everest View Hotel, a Japanese project designed to offer deluxe accommodations with stunning views of the highest mountains on Earth. The Khumjung valley, surrounded by the Himalayas, includes peaks such as Kongde, Thamserku, and the sacred Khumbila. While in Khumjung village, we can visit the Edmund Hillary School and the Khumjung Monastery, known for housing the head of the Yeti. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Khumjung.

      From Khumjung, we hike to Phortse. Crossing the lower slopes of Khumbila, weโ€™ll enjoy mesmerizing views of Phortse, Cholatse, Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtanga. Phortse village, located in the Khumbu region south of Mt. Everest, is off the main trekking routes. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Phortse.

      Todayโ€™s trek begins with a challenging but brief climb, after which we continue steadily along a ridge to Pangboche. Along the way, we visit the Pangboche Gomba and see the footprints of Lama Sangwa Dorje. The houses of Pangboche are beautifully nestled above the terraced fields, forming a large crescent moon. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Pangboche.

      Leaving Pangboche, we head east to join the main trail towards Everest Base Camp. Descending from there, we reach Tengboche, home to the renowned Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the Everest region. Situated within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of "outstanding universal value," the monastery offers a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The monastery opens at 3pm, and if fortunate, we may witness a religious ceremony. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Tengboche.

      From Tengboche, we descend through hillsides covered with rhododendron and juniper trees. Crossing a bridge adorned with prayer flags over the Dudh Koshi River, our trail follows the gorge, swiftly descending through pine forests until we reach Sansa, a significant trail junction in the region. The path then hugs steep wooded slopes, winding through several bends. Passing by a Chorten, we eventually arrive at the army camp near Namche Bazaar. Weโ€™ll spend the night in Namche Bazaar.

      The trail descends steeply downward so we need to walk cautiously as our shaky legs continuously battle the rocky terrain. After crossing the suspension bridges over the fast flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, the trail becomes more level and natural. Upon arrive in Lukla, stretch your sore legs and recall the experiences of the last couple of weeks. Overnight in Lukla.

      We will catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after the long mountain journey. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If you wish to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we will do it today. Our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping or sightseeing. To celebrate the successful completion of our journey, your agent will host a farewell dinner in the evening.
