      Day 2: Sigiriya - Sigiriya

After breakfast, you will be driven to visit Dunivila. This is said to have been the place from where Lord Rama fired the deadly Brahmasthram weapon at King Ravana. The reason for this identification is "Dunu" which means arrow and "Vila" which means Lake. So, it is explained that this place got its name because Lord Rama fired his arrow from this lake. Thereafter, you will visit Laggala. Laggala is derived from the Sinhala term โ€œElakke Galaโ€, which means Target Rock. Laggala served as a watchtower for King Ravana's army. Geographically, this is the highest part of the northern region of Rฤvanaโ€™s city. The top of Laggala is flat as that is believed to have resulted from being hit by the Brahmasthram weapon after Lord Rama had fired it from Dunuvila for killing Ravana on this rock. On completion of these visits, you will be taken to visit Ritigala. This mountain of mystery is said to have most rare medicinal herbs and plants from the Himalayas on its summit. Legends say that it is a part of Mount Dronagiri. When Lakshman was severely injured by Indrajit during the battle on Lanka, Hanuman was sent to fetch the life-restoring Sanjivani plant from the Himalayas. But when Hanuman realized that he was unable to find this herb in time, he lifted the whole Dronagiri and flew with it to Lanka, but on the way, he lost some parts of it. Ritigala being one of them. Overnight stay at 3* hotel in Sigiriya. Your stay is on Bed & Breakfast basis.

      Day 3: Sigiriya - Trincomalee

After breakfast, you will visit Sigiriya rock fortress. Historians believe Sigiriya to have a connection with Ramayana. It is believed that the plateau top was the site of Ravanaโ€™s majestic palace, made of solid Gold and crafted by kubera, the Gold of wealth, around 50 centuries ago. If you can closely look, you will see number of caves at the bottom of this rock plateau. Historians believe that Sita had been prisoned in one of these caves.  On completion of this visit, you will be driven to Trincomalee. On arrival, you will visit Koneswaram Temple which is located on a rock promontory of Trincomalee. This is one of the Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to Shiva. It was built by Rishi Agastya on the instructions of Lord Shiva who was impressed by the devotion of King Ravana. This place is unique in this respect because the Lord built a temple for his devotee as a reward for his devotion. Lord Rama is believed to have offered his prayers here to get rid of the malediction of killing Ravana.  After this visit, you will be able to visit Shankari Temple is one of the 18 Devi Temples (Ashta Dasha Shakti Peethas). This Shankari Devi temple was reconstructed in a new place. The original Shankari Devi temple said to be built by Ravana, but its whole cliff was destroyed by Portuguese cannon balls. Only a pillar for commemoration is placed on that location now. It is believed that the original idol of the Goddess has been preserved and replaced nearby new Shankari Devi temple. Overnight stay at 3* hotel in Trincomalee. Your stay is on Bed & Breakfast basis.
