      Meet us at your centrally located hotel to start this tour for Cape Townโ€™s most famous icon: Table Mountain by the Aerial Cableway to take in the natural beauty and stunning views. The first botanical garden in the world to be established (in 1913) to protect local flora, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in the UNESCO-listed Cape Floral Kingdom follows. Lunch is at the famous Jonkershuis Cape Malay restaurant. Visiting Groot Constantia, we taste their export quality wines. From here we pass Fish Hoek and Boulders Beach near Simonโ€™s Town, home to one of the few land-based penguin colonies in the world.  Choose one of the popular restaurants in the area for dinner. We overnight at the Sugar Hotel.

      First visit is Cape Point, part of the Table Mountain National Park and home to an abundance of flora and fauna, and ascend the viewpoint with the Flying Dutchman Funicular. We visit Hout Bay harbour and Camps Bay African Craft Market on our way along the scenic Chapmanโ€™s Peak drive. Driving in the direction of Stellenbosch, we visit the Vergenoegd wine farm for some wine tasting. We go to the Spier Wine Farm for chocolate and wine tasting on the banks of the Spier dam.  We overnight at Caledon Hotel and Spa. (or similar).

      Starting our journey to the Garden Route, we go to the town of Oudtshoorn with Route 62. This route delivers an unforgettable South African travelling experience, making of life-long memories. (Lunch en-route) After visiting the Cango Caves for a Heritage Tour, we head down the scenic Outeniqua Pass and onto the green forests and beaches of the Garden Route. Overnight is at the Acorn Guest House George (or similar).

      Discover the town of Knysna and visit some of the unspoiled beaches in the area and then drive to the town of Plettenberg Bay, where you can take an optional boat ride for a โ€œDolphin Encountersโ€ excursion of 1,5 to 2 hours at Ocean Blue Adventures. Driving to the Addo Elephant National Park, we stop over at the โ€˜highest recognized bungee from a bridgeโ€™ in the world, the Bloukrans Bridge Bungee Jump. Alternatively you can do one of the activities at Stormsriver Adventures: a Tsitsikama Woodcutters Journey or a Tsitsikama Canopy Tour. From here we go to the Addo Elephant National Park while being on the look out for Humpback Whales at Nelson Mandela Bay. A night game drive follows dinner at their restaurant: "Cattle Baron is famous for its steaks, having won several awards for the Best Steakhouse in South Africa. The signature dish is chateaubriand, a fillet flambรฉed with brandy and served with mushroom sauce and bรฉarnaise sauce. In recognition of its game-park location, Addo Cattle Baron also serves venison dishes like slow-cooked springbok shank." Overnight is here in a cottage.

      We leave the Addo National Park (while viewing game) for Port Elizabeth. We head North from Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay) to the spectacular Wild Coast along the roads of the Transkei, and see how the Xhosa people still live in their traditional rondawel huts, with farm animals grazing by the side of the road against the backdrop of the Drakensberg in the distance! We veer off the N2 to โ€œThe Hole in the Wallโ€, one of South Africaโ€™s most famous tourist attractions. (Lunch en-route not included)  The locals call this "izi Khaleni" which means place of thunder. During certain seasons and water conditions, the waves clap in such a way that the concussion can be heard throughout the valley. If you want to have a real authentic traditional experience, sleep in a rural rondawel (hut) of a traditional Xhosa village if available at the time. You also have the choice to stay at the Hole-in-the-Wall Hotel.

      After visiting some of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world, we drive to the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, which lies snugly at the head of a spectacular river gorge lined with dense coastal bush and forests. (Lunch en-route not included.) The breath-taking scenery along the Umzimkulwana river gorge makes this a photographerโ€™s and nature loverโ€™s paradise.

      You can do an optional activity here: the Lake Eland Zip Lines, the Longest Zip Line Tour in Africa! This tour consists of 14 zip line slides starting at the top of the Oribi Gorge. Overnight at a nearby South Coast Guest house.

      The Hibiscus coast with its inviting stretch of Indian Ocean which sometimes presents the year-round delights of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales, provide the spectacular scenery for the drive to Durban.  

      Leaving from Durban, we head to Howick to visit the Mandela Monument. From here we take the road North on the Midlands Meander and visit Tsonga shoes and bags,  Marrakesh Cheese and Chocolate Heaven and savour lunch at one of the delightful restaurants on the way. (Bierfassl) We also visit the Wine Cellar and Mouse Trap Deli. After visiting Drakensberg Bee Products at Scrumpy Jacks, we select some of the many activities to do at the Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort, where we also stay for the night (or similar).

      Breakfast is followed by a tour of the Dragon Rock Reptile Centre or watch as magnificent raptors perform in the skies above the Majestic Drakensberg Mountains, at Falcon Ridge. You also have the option for a helicopter flight over the main escarpment. (own cost) We head out to do the Drakensberg Canopy Tour and then attend a Drakensberg Boys Choir concert. We spend the night at the Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort (or similar). Dinner at a restaurant not included.

      We head to Dundee to have a tour of the battlefields and historical sites of Blood River/Ncome/Talana. โ€œBy 1836 relations between the British rulers in the Cape and the Dutch settlers had reached an all- time low. They decided to pack-up their worldly goods load them onto covered wagons and head into the largely unknown interior of South Africa. Thus began in 1836 the exodus that would be recorded by history as โ€˜The Great Trekโ€™! The north, west and eastward movement of this exodus of Trekkers, who became known as Voortrekkers inevitably led to conflict with the indigenous peoples who inhabited the hinterland. Trek leader Piet Retief and his party were killed at King Dinganeโ€™s capital of Mgungundlovu in February 1838โ€ฆโ€, and see where brutal battles took place. We spend the night at the Royal Country Inn. (or similar at another town)

      Heading on our way to Mpumalanga, we visit Oโ€™Neilโ€™s Cottage on the road between Newcastle and Volksrust. The home of Eugene Oโ€™Neil became a makeshift hospital for British after defeating at Majuba. The peace treaty ending the war was negotiated here. 

      An excellent choice for people who want to enjoy spectacular scenery, combined with game drives to see the renowned big five (elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard and buffalo). It traverses into Swaziland after 5 days to showcase the best there is to offer. We drive through some of the most scenic areas of the Eastern part of South Africa. The Highveld town of Dullstroom hosts Anvil Brewery, where you can enjoy local beer and dishes such as smoked trout for lunch. From here we descend into the Lowveld en route to the historic town of Pilgrimโ€™s Rest. The entire town of Pilgrimโ€™s Rest was declared a National Monument in 1986 as a living memory of the early gold rush days in South Africa during the late 1800s / early 1900s, then to view Pinnacle Rock and to experience the amazing view from Godโ€™s Window. We then visit the Berlin Falls, where numerous local arts and crafts are for sale. From here we visit Bourkeโ€™s Luck Potholes for lunch and then overnight at the resort: Forever Blyde Canyon (or similar).

      You can do a tour at the Echo Caves after breakfast, and then traverses to the famous Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre for a tour and lunch at the Curio Shop and Deli. Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre follows for another wildlife tour, where we also stay for the night (or similar).

      We leave after breakfast to take a boat trip on the Blyde Dam. An interpretation tour will take us to the Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondawels. An abundance of wildlife will keep you distracted while learning more about the natural history of the Blyde Canyon. The Kadishi Tufa waterfall, at 200 meters (around 660 feet) in height , is the second tallest tufa waterfall on earth. The waterfallโ€™s formation strikingly resembles a face which is crying profusely, and is thus sometimes known as โ€˜the weeping face of natureโ€™. Completing this we head to the Mopani Rest Camp via Phalaborwa gate at the Kruger Park for more game viewing.  After enjoying dinner we have a night game drive and spend the night here.

      After breakfast, we have a game drive in the park for the entire day, exploring every possible opportunity to view the spectacular wildlife scenery and opportunities to see the Big 5. You overnight at a lodge on the banks of the crocodile river, just outside the park.

      Breakfast follows a tour to Eswatini, with a show of glass blowing at Ngwenya Glass factory which evolved as a community project that recycles used glass, King Sobuza Memorial Park, the Candle factory which also evolved as a community project where locals learnt and perfected the skill of molding wax to shapes and patterns that are unique, Go Rural โ€“ another community based project focused on the use of special type of grass to weave different household artifacts. Lastly, Mantenga cultural village and Mantenga falls. On the whole, the tour is also filled in by a continuous narrative by our professional guide touching on aspects of African culture and traditions which are still alive in the country through the countryโ€™s monarchical democratic system as they prefer to call it. Overnight at the Badplaas Spa Resort where you can relax in a hot sulfur spring pool.

  • Day 15 Day 15: Johannesburg, Gold Reef City

      Breakfast follows the drive to Johannesburg, we overnight at the luxuriously styled Gold Reef City Theme Park Hotel where you have the opportunity to learn about the history of gold in Gauteng. A short tour to Soweto can be arranged as alternative.

      Leaving your Jozi hotel, we drive to the capital city of South Africaโ€™s Northern Cape Province on our way to Cape Town. Itโ€™s known for its 19th-century diamond mines, like the deep, hand-dug Big Hole. Nearby, the Kimberley Mine Museum is a re-creation of the town in its heyday, and displays jewelry and uncut diamonds where we take a tour, and stay over at the Barney Barnato B&B.

  • Day 17 Day 17: Cape Town

      Leaving after breakfast, we drive to Cape Town for the entire day through the semi desert region of the Karoo.
