Arrival In Campo Grande And Travel To The Pantanal Wetlands

Upon landing in Campo Grande, our local representative will be waiting for you to take you to your lodge in Pantanal. Having settled into your accommodation, put on your hiking boots and dive straight into the action as you head out to explore the forests of the Pantanal. Ten times larger than the Florida Everglades and a similar size to the country of Portugal, your expert nature guide will be there to take you to the best spots on this introductory ecological trail in the Pantanal. With the help of your guide, you'll be able to spot a vast array of animals, such as capuchin monkeys and deer, while learning all about the magnificent flora and fauna of the region. After returning to the lodge you can take a gentle afternoon canoe trip across the wetlands to explore the aquatic life of the wetlands. There are around 260 different species of fish in the Pantanal and their abundance provides food for alligators and birds, making the area a prime bird-watching destination. You'll see flocks of colorful parakeets and parrots as well as eagles, hawks and toucans. You may also spot the rare and beautiful hyacinth macaw. Arriving back at your lodge in time for dinner after an action packed first day, spend the evening relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet of the wetlands around your lodge. Note: Activities may vary upon the selected lodge. As each lodge offers a different variety of activities set amidst a unique backdrop, your three days spent enjoying the Pantanal will be planned daily with the assistance of each lodge's expert guides. The following is an example itinerary and just a taste of the wonders that are waiting for you in the Pantanal. Meals - Dinner.

      Exploring The Pantanal Wetlands

After breakfast, today is all about exploring even more of this spectacular natural habitat. The personnel at your lodge will be available to provide recommendations that will also take into account seasonal variations for both the wildlife and conditions. During the wet season, you can go horseback riding through the floodplains and forests of the Pantanal. The savannah and the flooded plains of this area make for a beautiful landscape, and the open spaces are perfect for unobstructed views of an array of creatures. With the biggest concentration of large animals in the New World, youโ€™ll have to keep an eye out for giant anteaters, tapirs, capybaras, deer, and armadillos. Anacondas and giant otters can be spotted occasionally in the area and alligators are also visible during the daytime, lazing in the sun on the banks of the rivers and lakes. Arriving back at the lodge for lunch and having freshened up, thereโ€™s plenty more to experience in this vast wetland. We recommend taking a tour of the Pantanalโ€™s Ecological Refuge where you can watch the feeding frenzy of alligators as they go in search of their lunch. During the dry season youโ€™ll be able to observe birds trying to compete for the few remaining fish in the wetlands. Itโ€™s then time for a spot of fishing with a difference. Todayโ€™s catch of the day is piranha! Despite their man-eating reputation, these toothy fish usually feast on fallen fruit instead of people but you should definitely stay in the boat and keep your arms and legs well inside the boat. Meals - Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
