Guide

AUSTRALIAN LEADERS: All group trips are accompanied by a group leader. In Australia your group leader is often also your driver, taking you from start to finish. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, as well as recommend great local eating venues. They will also introduce you to our local friends along the way. Please be aware they will be juggling many things on your tour and may have less time to spend with you. They will always be working hard to ensure you and your group have a fantastic time exploring Australia.

Accommodation

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if we're arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isn't always possible which means we won't be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. Hotel (7 nights)

      Day 1: Cairns

Gโ€™day, and welcome to paradise. Your trip starts in tropical Cairns (Gimuy in the language of the traditional owners of the land on which Cairns is now located) the gateway to Australiaโ€™s Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Your adventure officially kicks off with a Welcome Meeting at 6pm this evening, where youโ€™ll meet your group leader and travel companions. If you arrive in Cairns with time to spare, why not check out the Cairns Botanical Gardens? Just 5 minutes from the CBD, youโ€™ll find yourself in a lush tropical wonderland with the click of your fingers. Or, simply wander the waterfront promenade, popping into any one of the local bars that take your fancy.Accommodation: Hotel

      Day 2: Kuranda / Cairns

This morning, get ready to soar over the worldโ€™s oldest tropical rainforest via the Skyrail that connects Cairns to the picturesque mountain village of Kuranda. Youโ€™ll glide along 7.5km of cableway and admire the ancient landscape from a truly unique perspective. After catching the views from above, youโ€™ll get the opportunity to explore the rainforest up close once you arrive in Kuranda. Youโ€™ll have plenty of time at your leisure to explore this charming rainforest town and its surrounds. Kuranda is a delightful mix of quirky surprises, colourful characters and natural beauty, perched at the top of a rainforest clad mountain. You might like to check out the famous Kuranda Markets and village shopping, or kick back and relax at one of the townโ€™s many restaurants and cafes, where outdoor dining is one of the joys of our cooler mountain climate. Alternately, take to one of the many rainforest trails and get closer to nature with one of the local wildlife experiences, tours and attractions. With plenty of options to choose from, why not ask your leader for their best tips. Youโ€™ll head back to Cairns mid-afternoon for the evening at your leisure.Accommodation: Hotel

  • Day 3 Day 3: Mossman Gorge / Cairns

Day 3: Mossman Gorge / Cairns

After breakfast this morning, youโ€™ll head to Mossman Gorge for a special Dreamtime walk with a local First Nations guide. Your walk will start with a smoking ceremony to ward off any bad spirits, then youโ€™ll meander around (and over) gentle rainforest streams, discover sites of spiritual significance and wander by traditional bark shelters. Your guide will tell stories of the rainforest and teach you about the connection of First Nations peoples to the lands here. Youโ€™ll also learn about bush tucker and how to identify native food sources, and traditions like making bush soaps and ochre paintings. To top off a magical day in this magical place, youโ€™ll be treated to a traditional bush tea and damper before you head back to Cairns for an evening at your leisure.Accommodation: Hotel
