Today we spend time acclimatizing, which is essential before heading to higher altitudes later on the trek. Health experts recommend being active during this time in order to better acclimatize. In order to stay active, we can take a trek to Thame or to Khunde. We can also explore Namche Bazaar and check out the weekly market that happens on Friday evening and on Saturday mornings. Your guide can also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park that has a fascinating display of equipment and relics of the earlier Everest climbers. This is also a great opportunity to learn something about the flora and fauna of this region.

Today we follow the raging Dudh Kosi River with its icy waters that cascade down from the mountains. The trail also provides some stunning mountain views as we gradually head higher to 3860 meters to Tengboche Village, renowned for its decorative wall hangings and 6 meter Buddha, Tibetan musical instruments and brightly colored Lama robes. A highlight of visiting here will be witnessing the evening prayer by the monks at the monastery that is both relaxing and great for your soul.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Trek To Dingboche (4360M) 3-4 Hours.

Today we have a relatively easy trek to Dingboche, except for the last part where we have to climb a steep hill which reminds us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically demanding. In the beginning of this trek we pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho. Further down the trail we come to a fork and take the left trail that heads to Pheriche Village and then cross a bridge before we head up that tough hill to Dingboche Village (4410m) that has a number of lodges for us to choose from.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Acclimatization In Dingboche (4360M)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Acclimatization In Dingboche (4360M)

Today is the second day where we dedicate time to acclimatizing. In order to stay active, strongly recommended by health specialists, we climb 400 meters to Nangkartshang Gompa situated on a ridge just north of Dingboche Village. From Dingboche, we have views of Mt. Makalu (8,463m), the worldโ€™s fifth highest mountain, as well as Mt. Ama Dablam. If you have the energy we can climb to the summit at Nangkartshang (5090m).

  • Day 8 Day 8: Trek To Lobuche (4930M) 5-6 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 8: Trek To Lobuche (4930M) 5-6 Hours.

We start the day by heading to Dughla Village and then cross a fairly steep moraine littered with boulders at the base of the Khumbu Glacier. We continue to head higher to Chupki Lhara that has an array of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten-time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while trying to climb to the peak of Mt. Everest. On the trek to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, several huge peaks stare right at us: Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you stunned! We will stay in a lodge here tonight.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Trek To Gorakshep (5180M) And Hike To Everest Base Camp (5360M), Back To Gorakshep 7-8 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Trek To Gorakshep (5180M) And Hike To Everest Base Camp (5360M), Back To Gorakshep 7-8 Hours.

We are gradually getting nearer to our destination gradually climbing higher. Along the way we come to Gorak Shep Lake and then to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died attempting to climb Everest. Walking now is more physically demanding as a result of the thinner air at this altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross prior to reaching EBC. The first thing that strikes us on arrival at EBC is the contrasting array of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions before planning a climb to the summit. From EBC we can plainly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow glistening on their peaks. After a rest and look around EBC we then descend back to Gorak Shep for a well earned nightโ€™s sleep.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Hike Up To Kalapathar (5550M) And Back To Pheriche (4280M) 7-8 Hours.

Day 10: Hike Up To Kalapathar (5550M) And Back To Pheriche (4280M) 7-8 Hours.

This morning we are up early and have a brisk pre-dawn trek up to Kalapathar, with temperatures around -10 to -14C. There is also the likelihood of strong winds that will add the chill factor. In the east, the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse and Everest also start to appear before us. On reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be overjoyed as we take in the 360 degree views and the immense and intimidating Mt. Everest that appears right in front of you. Now is when you need to have your camera out and take some amazing snaps of Everest that will be a reminder for years after you leave Nepal. We will then head back down to Pheriche for the night.

Today we make a slow descent to Debouche on a trail through a rhododendron forest before reaching Tengboche, famous for its Buddhist monastery as well as for providing incredible views of the surrounding peaks. We then descend further to Phunki Thenga (3,250m/10,663ft) located on the banks of the Imja Khola (river). We finally head to Sanasa and then on to Namche Bazaar where we will stay the night.

  • Day 12 Day 12: Trek Back To Lukla (2,804M) 6-7 Hours.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 12: Trek Back To Lukla (2,804M) 6-7 Hours.

Once again we retrace our footsteps back to Phakding on our final day of trekking. We expect to arrive at Lukla with time to spare allowing us to explore the village and nearby countryside. You can now relax and look back on what you have accomplished on this trek. You will most likely take time to look back over your photos and catch up on emails to your family and friends. This is the time to congratulate yourself and enjoy that feeling of completing this physically demanding trek. In the evening you can party a little and have a few drinks to celebrate.
