Embark on your Atacama Desert adventure as you arrive at Calama Airport in the Antofagasta region. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,260 meters above sea level, Calama Airport offers a gateway to the stunning landscapes of northern Chile.

Upon arrival, head to the rental car counter to collect your reserved mini SUV. Make sure to have your documents ready for the rental process, including the voucher for the deposit. Once you have your vehicle, hit the road towards the captivating town of San Pedro de Atacama, located about 104 kilometers away from Calama. Many of our travelers take around 1h30min to get there.

San Pedro de Atacama will be your base for the next three nights, where you’ll immerse yourself in the charm of this desert oasis. The town’s unique blend of adobe architecture, rich cultural heritage, and breathtaking surroundings make it a perfect starting point for your desert exploration. Enjoy the freedom of driving through this awe-inspiring landscape and get ready for an unforgettable experience in the Atacama Desert.

PM Astro tour (stargazing)

We will pick you up to travel 6.2 miles from San Pedro de Atacama, to the place where you will make this activity. There, you have this Astrophotography Tour, in a place with few light pollution, special for the observation of the night sky. The tour, organized in three stages, will have an Andean Cosmovision talk. The same way, there will be a moment of telescope observation, in which you will be able to see planets and some details not visible with the naked eye. Finally, you will have a photo shoot with the starry sky as background so you can take a memory from this experience.

Day 2 San Pedro De Atacama – Quitor & Tulor – Moon Valley San Pedro De Atacama

San Pedro De Atacama – Quitor & Tulor – Moon Valley San Pedro De Atacama

On your second day in San Pedro de Atacama, you have the freedom to explore the desert at your own pace. I suggest taking a trip to Quitor & Tulor, ancient archaeological sites that offer a glimpse into the region’s rich history.

Quitor is located about 3 kilometers north of San Pedro de Atacama, while Tulor is around 10 kilometers to the east. Along the way, you’ll pass through stunning desert landscapes, including vast salt flats and towering sand dunes.

To reach Quitor & Tulor, head north on Route 23 and then take a right onto Route 27. Quitor is located off Route 27, and Tulor is a bit further east along Route 27. The drive from San Pedro de Atacama to Quitor & Tulor takes approximately 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic and road conditions.

PM Moon valley

Drive towards the Moon Valley. Valle de la Luna, located near San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, is a stunning lunar-like landscape that captivates visitors with its otherworldly beauty. The distance between San Pedro de Atacama and Valle de la Luna is approximately 13 kilometers.

The road between Valle de la Luna and San Pedro de Atacama is well-maintained, offering a smooth and relatively easy drive. It takes about 30 minutes to reach Valle de la Luna from San Pedro de Atacama by car.

This place is called Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) due to its striking resemblance to the lunar surface. The unique rock formations, salt deposits, and desert landscape create a surreal environment that truly resembles the surface of the moon, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring the Atacama Desert.

Day 3 San Pedro De Atacama – Altiplanic Lagoons – San Pedro De Atacama.

Visit the High-plateau Lagoons (Meñique and Miscanti), the Atacama Salt Flat and Toconao. Take route N° 23 (South-East direction) and drive towards Toconao (35 kms), a village of volcanic stone artisans. Then continue 5 kms and turn right. Continue this way for another 17 kms towards Chaxa Lagoon, the pink flamingos’ habitat. Return to route N° 23 and continue in South direction towards Socaire (90 kms). Make a stop here to have lunch (or bring a box lunch). On this route continue towards the mountains, where Meñique and Miscanti Lagoons are located (4,500 m a.s.l.). These lagoons are surrounded by impressive volcanoes originated by the rising of the Andes in ancient geological times.

Embark on an unforgettable journey to the El Tatio Geysers from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. The geysers are located approximately 90 kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama.

The road to El Tatio Geysers is a mix of paved and unpaved sections, but it is generally in good condition. The drive takes around 2 hours from San Pedro de Atacama to reach the geysers.

This visit is highly sought after and special due to the impressive display of geothermal activity, with over 80 active geysers spouting steam and water into the air against the backdrop of the Andes Mountains. It is a unique natural spectacle that draws visitors from around the world.

To fully experience the El Tatio Geysers, it is recommended to start early, departing from San Pedro de Atacama around 4 am. This activity is best enjoyed on a private or shared tour available in San Pedro de Atacama. You can reserve this activity directly with us.
