Our Egyptian adventure begins with a visit to the Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo, renowned for its remarkable Tutankhamun exhibit and extensive collection of ancient artifacts. Accompanied by our knowledgeable Egyptologist guides, you’ll delve into the rich tapestry of Egyptian history. Next, we journey to Giza on Cairo’s outskirts to marvel at the Sphinx and the awe-inspiring pyramids. The Great Pyramid of Khufu stands tall, a colossal feat of ancient engineering. Optionally, explore the pyramid interiors. Tonight, we board the overnight sleeper train to Aswan, embarking on a 12-hour journey (flight & hotel upgrade available).

This morning, we reach Aswan and transfer to our Nile-view hotel, offering breathtaking vistas of cascading rapids and lush islands. Aswan, a vibrant blend of African and Middle Eastern cultures, invites exploration through bustling markets. Once part of ancient Nubia, today it preserves Nubian heritage. Venture to a local Nubian village, witnessing their colorful homes and simple lifestyle, culminating in a traditional lunch.

Afternoon unfolds with a visit to the enchanting Temple of Philae, dedicated to Isis. Evening grants leisure to explore Aswan’s markets and stroll along the Nile’s Corniche. Optionally, embark on a camel ride to St. Simeon’s monastery. Those opting for Abu Simbel retire early for an early morning departure.

This morning offers the option of an early start for a drive to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Abu Simbel, showcasing the magnificent temples erected by Ramses II, a quintessential Egyptian highlight. Alternatively, those not visiting Abu Simbel can explore Aswan’s vibrant markets, stroll along the Corniche, or delve into the intriguing exhibits at the Nubian Museum, chronicling the evolution of the Nubian people.

At lunchtime, we embark on our traditional Nile felucca for a leisurely afternoon sail. Drifting down the Nile offers a serene glimpse into rural Egyptian life, accompanied by our skilled Nubian crew who prepare meal and entertain. Then we will return to our hotel for the overnight stay.

After enjoying breakfast on-board, we bid farewell to our felucca crew and venture to the nearby Edfu Temple before journeying northward to Luxor. Luxor, situated on the ancient site of Thebes, boasts the Nile Valley’s largest concentration of ancient ruins, rivaling any globally. To the west lies the City of the Dead, housing mortuary temples and rock-hewn tombs, while the east showcases the grand Temples of Luxor and Karnak. This evening, we embark on a walking tour of the enchanting Luxor Temple, nestled in the heart of the town, its magnificence illuminated under the night sky.

Early this morning, we embark on a journey across the Nile to explore Luxor’s West Bank. Here lies the renowned Valley of the Kings, an ancient burial ground still unraveling its mysteries, making it a pivotal archaeological site globally. Our itinerary encompasses Pharaonic tombs, Queen Hatchepsut’s temple, Deir-el-Medina (Valley of the Craftsmen), and the imposing Colossi of Memnon.

An optional highlight awaits with a breathtaking hot air balloon flight over the West Bank, promising a memorable sunrise experience.

Post-lunch, we delve into the vast Karnak temple complex, once the religious epicenter of Thebes and Upper Egypt. Connected to Luxor by a grand sphinx-lined avenue, the complex, linked to the Nile via a sacred boat canal, houses awe-inspiring structures including the towering Hypostyle Hall adorned with intricate hieroglyphs.

Later tonight, we transition to the station for the overnight sleeper train journey back to Cairo, spanning approximately 9 hours (flight & hotel upgrade available).

Upon our return to Cairo this morning, we transfer to our hotel, granting most of the day for leisurely exploration or optional tours. Choose from a city tour exploring Coptic Cairo, the Citadel, and Mohamed Ali Mosque, or delve into the history of pyramid construction with a half-day excursion to Saqqara, Dashour, and Memphis. For an extended adventure, venture into the desert to witness the World Heritage Site of the Valley of the Whales at Wadi Rayan.

In the late afternoon, embark on a guided stroll through central Cairo’s backstreets and bustling bazaars. Traverse through Bab al-Futuh gateway and meander through vibrant streets teeming with metalwork, spices, textiles, and more, eventually reaching the iconic Khan-el-Khalili bazaar. Indulging in Egypt’s unofficial national dish, Kushari, before returning to our hotel.

This morning, we depart Cairo for our journey to Dahab, traversing beneath the Suez Canal and through the picturesque Sinai region. For those preferring air travel, an optional upgrade to a Cairo to Sharm el Sheikh flight is available. The remainder of the afternoon offers leisure time to unwind by the hotel pool or beach, or explore the inviting ambiance of Assalah village.

"Dahab" translates to "gold" in Arabic, aptly describing the golden sands adorning the beaches flanking the main bay. Assalah, the neighboring Bedouin village, lines the shores of Ghazala Bay, offering a charming blend of campsites, hotels, eateries, and shops amidst swaying palm trees. Evenings present an ideal opportunity to sample the diverse culinary offerings and fresh seafood delicacies at the plethora of restaurants dotting the area.

Additional excursions include visits to the Blue Hole, Coloured and White Canyons, Mount Sinai & St. Catherine’s Monastery, and even a memorable Bedouin evening in the desert.

This morning, we depart from Dahab to Taba Heights, a journey of approximately 2 hours, where we’ll board a ferry to Aqaba, a trip lasting around 1 hour. Upon reaching Jordan and completing passport control, we venture into the breathtaking desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. Here, warm Bedouin hosts welcome us to a cozy camp nestled beneath towering rocks and cliffs. Spend the evening and night unwinding at the camp, savoring a delectable traditional Jordanian meal, often featuring the option of ’Zarb’—a dish typically comprising lamb and chicken cooked underground in authentic Bedouin style. Optional activities for the evening include a sunset camel ride or stargazing with telescopes.

Following breakfast at the camp, we embark on a thrilling jeep safari through the sands and towering "jebels" of Wadi Rum. Along the way, we pause to scale sand dunes and marvel at the peculiar rock formations, including a stunning rock bridge.

Immersing ourselves in Bedouin traditions. After experiencing authentic nomadic Bedouin life, we return to our camp by jeep and proceed to Petra.

For a captivating introduction to Petra, you have the option to join the Petra by Night tour tonight. This enchanting experience entails a walk through the Siq to the Treasury, illuminated by the soft glow of hundreds of candles, creating a truly atmospheric ambiance.

Today, we immerse ourselves in the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, once the bustling capital until Roman conquest in 106 AD. Forgotten for centuries until Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt’s 1812 rediscovery, Petra lies on the fringe of the Wadi Aruba desert, accessible only via the narrow Siq passage.

Exploration of Petra begins with the lesser-traveled back-route from Little Petra, a scenic journey leading to the Monastery and main site. This route offers breathtaking mountain panoramas and includes landmarks like Little Petra and the Monastery. The trail involves rock-hewn steps, a plateau café stop, and a glimpse of the Monastery before descending into Petra’s main valley.

For those up to the challenge, the back-route requires 2-3 hours of hiking to the Monastery and further exploration of Petra’s main site. Horse carriages are available for mobility-challenged visitors within Petra’s main site.

Following breakfast in Petra, we journey north along the Dead Sea road to Wadi Mujib, embarking on an exhilarating hike along the Siq Trail. En route, marvel at the stunning views of the Salt Flats at the Dead Sea’s southern end. Upon reaching the Wadi Mujib visitor center, enjoy lunch (not included) before commencing the hike.

Descending into the gorge within the Wadi Mujib Nature Reserve, embark on an exciting hike through shallow waters (available from April to October). Ascend small waterfalls with installed steps, culminating at a large waterfall for relaxation. The hike typically lasts 2 to 3 hours roundtrip.

Ensure to bring a dry bag and water shoes (available for hire at the visitor center). Note: From November to March, when Siq Trail hiking isn’t feasible, we’ll visit the Baptism site in Bethany, believed to be where John baptized Jesus Christ. Conclude the day at our Dead Sea resort, allowing time for floating in the salty waters and poolside relaxation.

Day 15 Madaba, Mount Nebo And Roman Jerash

Following a restful night, we venture to nearby Madaba to admire Byzantine mosaics, notably the ’Madaba Map,’ the oldest preserved map of the Holy Land. Continuing to Mount Nebo, where Prophet Moses viewed the Promised Land and is buried, offering stunning vistas towards Jericho and beyond on clear days.

Our last stop is the ancient city of Jerash, renowned for its well-preserved Greco-Roman heritage.

Exploring the Forum, Roman streets, Nymphaeum, and Temple of Artemis atop the city’s highest point.

Returning to Amman, we conclude our Jordanian journey, spending our final night in the capital.
