Guide

Your group leaderโ€™s role involves organising the overall operation and smooth-running of the trip and managing trip logistics. Your leader is also fully qualified and experienced to lead all the treks/hikes included in this trip, therefore, your leader is also your trekking/hiking guide. In addition, they are responsible for driving the van and navigating across the country/state. The allowable driving times for drivers is strictly controlled in North America. This ensures our drivers are well rested and are not over-tired from too many hours on the road. Please note that guides are required to take 8 hours off each 24 hour period to sleep, recuperate, take personal/down time, etc. It is essential that leaders are well-rested in order to safely lead hikes. We ask our travellers to respect these requirements and to not interrupt guidesโ€™ time off and sleep time unless there is a true emergency.

Transport

AIRPORT TRANSFERS IN THE USA : & CANADA: We recommend taxis and rideshare services like Lyft and Uber when traveling to and from hotels in the USA : and Canada. These services are widely available across North America, offering convenient and accessible transportation options. Private transfers in North America incur high costs and present an increased risk of missed connections due to their fixed schedules. In contrast, taxis and rideshares offer both cost-effectiveness and flexibility, ensuring a smoother journey. With transparent pricing, GPS : tracking, and on-demand availability, we believe that taxis and rideshare apps not only offer a reliable alternative to private transfers but also provide a secure, trustworthy, and budget-friendly transportation option for our customers. NORTH AMERICA VEHICLES: Our large fleet of 15-passenger vans are fully equipped with air-conditioning system, V8 engines and any camping or cooking equipment needed for your trip. Most have cloth-upholstered seats and carpeted interior with radio or CD players. Your luggage is typically transported in a trailer which is towed behind the van. The vans are regularly serviced by a well-established network of maintenance and service facilities throughout the continent. However, unforeseen maintenance problems can still occur while on the road and we appreciate the patience of our travellers as we make necessary repairs as quickly as possible. While your group will have a van for all included activities on the trip, the services of the van and leader may not be available for your use during free time, or after you have arrived for the day. If you need a special trip into town you may need to arrange transport or a taxi. Private vehicle , Bicycle , Kayak , On foot

Accommodation

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if weโ€™re arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isnโ€™t always possible which means we wonโ€™t be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. Hotel (6 nights)

  • Day 1 Day 1: Anchorage Cycling
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Anchorage Cycling

Welcome to Alaska! Your adventure begins in Anchorage โ€“ the gateway to some of Alaskaโ€™s finest parks and cycling trails. Youโ€™ll have a welcome meeting at 12 pm today with your trip leader to meet your fellow travellers. After, enjoy a warm-up ride along the paved Tony Knowles Coastal Trail as it hugs the shore of Cook Inlet from downtown Anchorage through coastal marshes and over forested hills, with great views of Mount Susitna along the way. After, youโ€™re free to freshen up and head out to the vibrant downtown, where you might like to enjoy dinner at one of the restaurants.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Denali National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Denali National Park

After an early breakfast, sit back and enjoy the drive along the Parks Highway to Denali National Park โ€“ 6 million acres of the Alaskan wilderness. Keep an eye out for caribou, birds, wolves and other wildlife along the way. Stop in Talkeetna to stretch your legs and sit down for lunch with your group. When you arrive at the park โ€“ home to the tallest peak in North America โ€“ youโ€™ll go to the visitor centre for a safety overview, then out into the wilderness for your first hike. The routes here will vary depending on the weather and the preference of your group.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Denali National Park Hiking
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Denali National Park Hiking

Todayโ€™s hike starts by winding through the spruce forest as you walk the spectacular Triple Lakes Trail โ€“ the longest trail in Denali National Park and home to some great views of Riley Creek. With the towering mountains in the distance, youโ€™ll trek along creeks, forest and rolling hills before the first of the three Triple Lakes comes into view. From here, youโ€™ll either continue (if time permits) or return to the trailhead back to the hotel for a free evening. For those who want to see more of the park, you can choose to forego todayโ€™s hike and pay for the full-day Tundra Wilderness Bus Tour, which includes the Toklat Riverโ€™s incredible scenery and some of the parkโ€™s best wildlife spotting opportunities.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Matanuska Glacier Trek
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Matanuska Glacier Trek

Embark on a scenic drive along the Glenn Highway towards the town of Palmer this morning โ€“ a trip thatโ€™s packed with gorgeous mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo ops. Youโ€™ll eventually reach the famed Matanuska Glacier โ€“ Alaskaโ€™s largest road-access glacier. Itโ€™s a jaw-dropping 27 miles long and 4 miles wide and has some of the most accessible walking areas of any glacier in the state! Don your ice cleats and helmet (included) and begin exploring the glacier on foot with the help of an Alaskan guide and glacier expert. Marvel at the ice that formed thousands of years ago, high in the Chugach Mountains. Amazingly, every day is unique at Matanuska, due to the dynamic nature of the glacier.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Seward
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Seward

Today, enjoy a slow start to the morning and then take a leisurely drive to Seward โ€“ one of Alaskaโ€™s oldest and most picturesque towns. Along the way, youโ€™ll stop at Turnagain Arm. A waterway into the northwestern part of the Gulf of Alaska, this area was named for British explorer James Cook, who was forced to โ€˜turn againโ€™ when the waterway didnโ€™t hold the fabled Northwest Passage on his 1778 voyage. Explore this scenic area, then continue to Seward. This vibrant town is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park and has galleries, boutique shops and a bustling harbour.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Seward Sea Kayaking
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Seward Sea Kayaking

Enjoy a change of scenery as you venture out onto Resurrection Bay on full-day sea kayaking and rainforest hiking adventure. Learn about life in Seward as you travel to the shoreline. After a quick briefing, hit the kayak and paddle around the calm waters of the bay, soaking up the mountain vistas as you keep an eye out for sea otters, seals, porpoises, bald eagles and leaping salmon. From mid-July to early September, youโ€˜ll paddle directly past the outlet of Tonsina Creek to view a salmon spawning stream! Then, explore Tonsina Point with its ghost forest, tall waterfall and gorgeously green scenery. Stop for a picnic lunch with your group in the forest, then take walk on the beach โ€“ today is full of photo ops!

  • Day 7 Day 7: Exit Glacier / Anchorage
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Exit Glacier / Anchorage

Before you leave Seward today, there will be time for a classic Alaskan hike to Exit Glacier in Kenai Fjords National Park. Youโ€™ll get so close to the dense blue ice that youโ€™ll be able to listen to the sound of the glacier! Itโ€™s then time to drive back to Anchorage, where your adventure comes to an end. If youโ€™d like to extend your stay, just speak to your booking agent ahead of time.
