Health experts strongly recommend staying active during this time in order to better acclimatize. We have several options open to us. We can take a trek to Thame or we may choose to visit Khunde. We can also use this time to explore Namche Bazaar and check out the weekly market that takes occurs on Friday evening and on Saturday morning โ€“ if our timing is right of course! Your guide will also take you to the Tourist Visitor Center close to the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park that has an interesting display of equipment and relics of the first Everest climbers. Today we follow the raging Dudh Kosi River as its freezing glacial waters cascade down from the mountains. The trail also offers some dazzling mountain views as we gradually climb higher to 3860 metres at Tengboche Village, famous for its decorative wall hangings and 6 meter Buddha, Tibetan musical instruments and striking coloured Lama robes. A highlight of visiting here will be the evening prayer at the monastery that is great for your soul.

Today is a more relaxing day with an easy trek to Dingboche โ€“ except for the last part where we have to climb a steep hill which reminds us that trekking at higher altitudes is more physically demanding. We will first pass through the villages of Somare (4010m) and Orsho. Further down the trail we come to a fork and take the left trail that heads to Pheriche Village, then cross a bridge before that steep ascent to Dingboche Village (4410m) that has several suitable lodges for us to choose from.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Rest Day At Dingboche Climb To Chhukung.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Rest Day At Dingboche Climb To Chhukung.

Today is the second day set aside to acclimatize. To stay active, recommended by health specialists, we will climb 400 metres to Nangkartshang Gompa located on a ridge just north of Dingboche Village. From here we have some great views of Mt. This morning we head to Dughla Village and then cross the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier, having to traverse slopes covered with boulders. We continue to ascend to Chupki Lhara that has an array of stones with prayer flags placed as a memorial to climbers Scott Fischer (American) and ten time Everest summiteer Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepalese guide) who died while attempting an ascent of Mt. Everest. On the path to the Khumbu Glacier moraine a several huge peaks will appear right before our eyes:  Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. This scene will leave you captivated!

Day 9: Trek To Gorak Shep (5,180M) & Visit Everest Base Camp ( 5,364M) 8-9 Hours.

We are slowly closing in on our ultimate destination, heading to higher elevations passing Gorak Shep Lake and then further on come to a memorial that honors Indian mountaineers who have died while attempting to climb the mountain. Walking now is more physically demanding as a result of the thinner air at this higher altitude. The trail has rocks, moraine and streams to cross before we arrive at EBC. The first thing that strikes on arrival at EBC is the contrasting display of colorful tents of mountaineers waiting for the right conditions and opportunity before attempting the summit. From EBC we can plainly see Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori and the snow gleaming on their peaks. After a rest and look around EBC we head back to Gorak Shep for a well earned nightโ€™s rest.

There is also a likelihood of strong winds that will add to the chill factor. In the east are the peaks of Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse. Everest also starts to appear on the horizon. On reaching the summit of Kala Patthar we will be thrilled as we take in the 360 degree views and the massive and looming Mt. Everest that appears right before your eyes. Now is the time to have your camera out and to frantically take some breathtaking snaps of Everest that will be a reminder of this time for years after you leave Nepal and a vivid reminder of this time.
