The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, as well as taking care of camp duties such as cooking. Help is always appreciated. They will also introduce you to our local friends along the way. Please be aware they will be juggling many things on your tour and may have less time to spend with you. Transport

Private vehicle DRIVING DISTANCES IN AUSTRALIA: Australia is a BIG : country! In fact, the whole of Europe fits into Australia with plenty of room to spare. Australians are accustomed to driving long distances on holiday, but you may not be. Perth to Broome is roughly the length of Portugal. Driving from Alice Springs to Darwin is about the length of the UK, and Perth to Adelaide is about the same distance from Spain to Poland. However, that's why we think seeing Australia from the ground is better. We live in a country that has it all; stunning coastline and beaches, the outback, tropical rainforests, and some seriously amazing landscapes and wildlife. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates. HOT WEATHER: From October to March it is likely that you will experience temperatures over 35C/95F. These extreme temperatures place stress on the air-conditioning units within our vehicles which can make travelling uncomfortable. Your leader will assist with regular breaks and information to assist keeping cool and hydrated.

Accommodation

PARTICIPATORY CAMPING: Our camping trips in Australia stay in a variety of campsites, from powered sites with permanent tents and shared bathroom facilities, to bush camping in remote locations. Check your daily itinerary for more details. On all camping trips you will be expected to lend a hand to ensure your experience is a comfortable one for everyone, whether it is helping to bring equipment from the bus, gathering firewood, making your beds up in a tent, putting together your picnic lunch or helping to wash up. Your leader will let you know how you can contribute as well as ensure that we leave all our campsites ready for the next visitors when we depart. Private semi-permanent campsite (with shared facilities) (2 nights)

  • Day 1 Day 1: Alice Springs / Kings Canyon
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 1: Alice Springs / Kings Canyon

Welcome to Australiaโ€™s Red Centre! Your adventure kicks off bright and early in Alice Springs this morning with a welcome meeting to start the trip. Thereโ€™s plenty of culture to be found in Alice Springs (Mparntwe), the townโ€™s traditional owners are the Arrernte people, although many different First Nations communities now call this place home. Itโ€™s the perfect place to start our journey into the ancient culture and landscapes of Australiaโ€™s Red Centre and acts as launching pad to reach some of Australiaโ€™s most incredible sights. To the west of the township, youโ€™ll discover the beautiful Macdonnell Ranges that span 161 kilometres of Australian outback. And to the south-west, youโ€™ll find Uluru and Kings Canyon โ€“ our next destination for today. With a short stop in Erldunda to stretch your legs along the way, youโ€™ll arrive in Kings Canyon and then be treated to an Aboriginal cultural experience that will teach you about bush tucker and bush medicine, and youโ€™ll discover the meaning behind some of the patterns and symbols in traditional dot paintings โ€“ it's the perfect way to start your journey. Later this evening, enjoy sunset at Kings Canyon and then return to your camp for a night under the expansive starlit sky.Accommodation: Private semi-permanent campsite (with shared facilities)

  • Day 2 Day 2: Kings Canyon / Kata Tjuta / Uluru / Yulara

Day 2: Kings Canyon / Kata Tjuta / Uluru / Yulara

After breakfast this morning, head out to soak in the remarkable scenery of Watarrka National Park during the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. With soaring cliffs and ethereal rock formations, youโ€™d be hard-pressed to find a more magical place. The walk starts with a difficult climb to the top of the canyon to take in the unrivalled views before descending through the Lost City, a series of natural sandstone domes resembling ancient ruins, the remnants of eons of weathering. Continue down to the Garden of Eden, named for its lush greenery that stands in contrast to the rest of the arid landscape. After stopping for lunch at Curtin Springs, youโ€™ll head to Uluru and Kata Tjuta National Park for a gentle walk through Walpa Gorge (AKA Windy Gully). In contrast to this morningโ€™s challenging climb, the Walpa Gorge walk is short and sweet, and especially picturesque in the afternoon as the sun lights the gorge. This evening, enjoy the view as the sun sets over the epic sandstone monolith, Uluru โ€“ watching the incredible landscape shift in colour is a sight you wonโ€™t soon forget.Accommodation: Private semi-permanent campsite (with shared facilities)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Uluru / Yulara (Or Alice Springs)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Uluru / Yulara (Or Alice Springs)

Start the day early in one of the best ways imaginable โ€“ watching a spectacular sunrise over Uluru. Youโ€™ll be up bright and early to set off on a short walk at the base of the Rock with your leader as the sun climbs over the landscape and sets Uluru aglow with morning light. During your walk, youโ€™ll learn more about creation stories and the cultural significance of this incredible Outback landscape. Then, make our way back to Yulara to drop off anyone leaving us here, before departing for Alice Springs. You will arrive back in Alice Springs this evening at which time your Outback adventure will come to an end.
