When is the best time of year for this experience? How's the weather there?

This tour can be taken all year round with December to February being the hottest, most humid and busiest months, but also with more rainfall. This does mean that the falls may be in fuller flow. June, July, and August are cooler in Iguazu especially, and the clearer skies of April and May can also lead to a small drop in the amount of water flowing over the top of the falls.

Do I need any special vaccinations?

Visitors to Brazil and South America are advised to always check the latest health information from your local doctors or travel clinic. You may be advised to take a course of Malaria tablets. Yellow Fever Vaccine is highly recommended/essential for the Pantanal & Amazon region, plus the certificate to prove it, and possibly Hepatitis A and B Vaccines.

Citizens of many countries require a Tourist Visa to enter Brazil, organize this in advance at your nearest Brazil Consulate.

How are the meals in Brazil?

Brazilian meals generally include fresh salad, and of course there is an incredible variety of fresh fruits to try. You may need to take care with such fresh items if they have been washed in tap water. Meats are generally freshly cooked to order. Drinks tend to come with ice made from treated water, while most beers are bottled, but draught beers also exist.

What type of luggage should I bring?

We recommend packing light, whereas taking a small backpack or a light weighed suitcase. The hand luggage should be of 5 kg maximum, and the dropped in luggage should be of 23 kg maximum.

What currency should I bring?

The currency in Brazil is the Real. Most places in Brazil will not accept foreign currency for transactions, Including the US dollar. Generally using Reais or your cards are the only options.

Long trousers, preferably light material, possibly the type that zips into shorts, Long-sleeved top such as a fleece, Light long-sleeved top for evenings to keep mosquitoes away, Raincoat, Shorts, Swimming/beachwear, Sandals or flip-flops, Shoes that are suitable for walking and possible wet paths, Walking sandals are generally ok too; Sunglasses, Sunhat. You should also bring insect repellent, binoculars, sunblock, water bottle, flashlight, waterproof bag, toiletries, medication and travel first-aid kit, camera, etc.

What voltage is used? Do I need an adaptor?

You should bring a multiple travel plug adaptor such as the Fuji Worldwide. Brazil has many different types of plugs, plus both 110v and 220v in different areas.

After being welcomed upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, your guide describes the marvellous city during the journey to your hotel close to Ipanema or Copacabana Beach. You pass along the edge of Guanabara Bay, with first glimpses of the city, the statue of Christ The Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain. After a little orientation of the city and the area around your hotel, the rest of the day is then free to explore Rio and perhaps enjoy your first coconut water or a caipirinha cocktail at sunset from Arpoador, the headland between the two main beaches. Evening brings the chance to enjoy Brazilian cuisine for the first time.

Day 2 Rio- Christ the Redeemer

Your first tour of Rio takes you to the top of Corcovado, the steep 710m high topped by the 31m statue of Christ The Redeemer. The views from the base across the city, beaches, mountains, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, Guanabara Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are spectacular. You go your way back down through Santa Teresa and the Selaron Staircase to see the historic side of Rio, the Municipal Theatre and the grand buildings that date from the 19th Century and earlier. You see the modern Metropolitan Cathedral and the antique Arches of Lapa. The afternoon and evening are free to relax.

Day 3 Rio- Sugar Loaf Mountain

Morning brings a journey around the lagoon to the Botanical Gardens in the shadow of Christ the Redeemer. The gardens contain an array of tropical species, with palms, orchids and the pau brasil tree that gave its name to the country watched over by monkeys and toucans. You then travel to Sugar Loaf Mountain to ride the cable cars to the 396m summit. The views take in Copacabana Beach, the mountains behind the statue, and those surrounding Rio on a clear day. Afternoon and evening are free with the option to enjoy a typical Brazilian churrascaria barbeque, and go dancing to the samba clubs of Lapa.

Your day in Rio can be spent relaxing on Copacabana or Ipanema Beach, or you can go walking around the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. You can also take boat trips out on the ocean or around the bay; or go on the museum tours that include the Imperial & National Museums, Samba City, the Carmen Miranda or the Diamond Museums. You can cross the bay to MAC, with impressive views back to Rio. A day at the wild beaches at the edge of the city, Prainha & Grumari, is another possibility. Adventurous activities such as hiking, tandem hang-gliding and kayaking can also be included.

Day 5 Rio de Janeiro- Flight to Iguazu

Today in the morning you board the flight towards Iguazu. On the plane you get to admire the 275 separate falls of the Iguazu River as you land. On arrival you are met for an immediate tour of the Brazilian National Park, where you enjoy the majestic panoramic views of the Iguazu Falls. There's an option to view the falls from above in an helicopter ride.
In the late afternoon you get the transfer to your hotel with the evening free. Please be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the Iguazu Falls, as the walkways, paths and yourselves become wet from the spray. Camera protection is also a good idea.

After breakfast you cross to the Argentinean National Park, where walkways allow you to experience the majesty of Iguazu from very close quarters. The undoubted highlight is the experience of looking down into The Devil's Throat, as the falling water pounds the bottom, creating the roar and mist that mean Iguazu Falls can be seen and heard for miles around. The afternoon finishes with an adventure boat ride, which takes you right under the falling curtains of water. In the evening you can enjoy of a Latin American dance show, or in the period around Full Moon, you can visit the falls to view Iguazu by moonlight.

On this last day you board the flight from Iguazu back to Rio, the flight is likely to be in the afternoon (depending on the availability at the moment of booking), so you probably have time to visit more Iguazu attractions. The Bird Park has hundreds of colourful tropical species free to fly around huge aviaries, including parrots, macaws and toucans, and butterflies.
A tour to Itaipu Dam takes you to the Rio Parana to see what was the largest hydroelectric plant on earth until recently.
Mid-afternoon, you are transferred to the airport for your domestic flight back to Rio, connecting there with your flight back home.
