Hike The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail

This tour includes:

Guide

All group trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to take the hassle out of your travels and to help you have the best trip possible. Intrepid endeavours to provide the services of an experienced leader however, due to the seasonality of travel, rare situations may arise where your leader is new to a particular region or training other group leaders. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for things to do and see, recommend great local eating venues and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense, you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the places visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious, and social aspects. At Intrepid we aim to support local guides who have specialised knowledge of the regions we visit. If you are interested in delving deeper into the local culture at a specific site or location then your leader can recommend a local guide service in most of the main destinations of your trip.

This morning, youโ€™ll meet your fellow adventurers and local leader then hit the road to travel from Adelaide to Myponga. Meet a local Ngarrindjeri guide who will take you for a walk along the reservoir where you'll learn about the lost tribe of the Warki people and their dispersion from Country, and who have reappeared after 100 years of being almost lost. Continue to Cape Jervis to catch the Kangaroo Island ferry. In the afternoon strap on your walking shoes and take to the South Australian tracks. After your first walk of the trip, youโ€™ll settle into your Kangaroo Island accommodation and join your newfound travel companions and leader for a welcome dinner, where youโ€™ll get to know one another and toast to the epic adventure ahead.Accommodation: Hotel

This first section of the wilderness trail leads to Snake Lagoon, youโ€™ll pass through forest and coastal vegetation along your way. As you walk along the wild and rugged coastline, youโ€™ll be met with vast views across the mighty Southern Ocean. Keep your eyes peeled for local bottled-nosed dolphins below and seabirds soaring above your head. Youโ€™ll notice the famous Cape Du Couedic Lighthouse that sits atop the headland in the distance during your walk. Youโ€™ll have time to explore the tower, built between 1906 and 1909 and get up close and personal with the local seal colony who call this area home. From here, youโ€™ll make your way to Wiers Cove, a beautiful bay surrounded by striking calcarenite cliffs before continuing to your final destination for the day โ€“ Remarkable Rocks. As one of the islandโ€™s most-loved landmarks, Remarkable Rocks have been carved by the sea and wind for the last 500 million years. The rocks are a sight to see โ€“ a collection of granite boulders with bright orange lichen perched above the sea.
