Your first stop introduces you to the neo-Gothic marvel of the Basilica, where intricate stained glass windows depict floral motifs, and whimsical gargoyles assume the shapes of the countryโ€™s wildlife. Ascend the towers for panoramic vistas before proceeding to one of Latin Americaโ€™s largest convents, the San Francisco Monastery. The tour culminates with a visit to the baroque La Compaรฑรญa church, showcasing a fusion of artistic styles and an opulent gold-laden interior.

Discovering Quilotoa: Hike Through Natural Beauty

      Wake up very early!

The day loop takes you across deep valleys, along dusty paths, around rolling green hills, and either starts or finishes at the azure-colored crater lake high up in the mountains, which was created around 600 years ago by an enormous eruption. The hike will be for around 4 - 5 hours.

You will hike around the Quilotoa Lagoon โ€“ an emerald green crater lake that formed after the last eruption of the Quilotoa volcano in 1280 โ€“ which is arguably the highlight of the Quilotoa Loop. Beyond the many awe-inspiring landscapes, youโ€™ll also gain a fascinating insight into the indigenous cultures of the region.

Then, you will head to Baรฑos de Agua Santa

  • Day 5 Baรฑos Through The Volcanoes Avenue
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Baรฑos Through The Volcanoes Avenue

Experience the magic of Baรฑos, the doorway to the Amazon rainforest, nestled in the shadow of the lively Tungurahua volcano. Here, youโ€™ll find a climate thatโ€™s just right, setting the stage for thrilling adventures and encounters with nature. And of course, you canโ€™t miss a dip in the inviting hot springs that have made this village a must-visit for travelers.

Start your day by following the picturesque Route of the Waterfalls, beginning at the Agoyan dam. Youโ€™ll make your way to the stunning Manto de la Novia Waterfall, where youโ€™ll have the chance to hop on the Tarabita (a cable car) for a ride across the Rio Patate to explore the waterfall on the other side. As you journey on, youโ€™ll reach the Mirador de San Jorge viewpoint before arriving at the awe-inspiring Pailรณn del Diablo, a waterfall that stands tall at around 100 meters. A leisurely 30-minute stroll through a tropical mountain forest will take you to the base of this natural wonder, followed by a relaxed 45-60 minute walk back up. Afterward, youโ€™ll return to Baรฑos for a leisurely afternoon on your own terms.
