Quechuas Expeditionsโ€™ Safety Protocols With these announcements, we also want to let you know that Quechuas Expeditions is ready to operate the allowed tours with all the needed safety protocols. To guarantee an amazing but safe experience to you and your loved ones. The protocols are as follows: All of our staff. Including guides, porters, horsemen, cooks and drivers will go through a COVID19 molecular discard test before being able to work. Our doctor will check on our staff to go through a discard triage for any risk of infection before every service. Temperature control is mandatory to both staff and passengers. Hand-washing is mandatory for both our staff and clients. Quechuas Expeditions guides always carry a personal first-aid kit including masks, gloves and thermometers, etc. The usage of masks is mandatory to both staff and passengers. The 1 and a half meters minimum-distance between each person will be respected and organized by our guides. Our vehicles will be disinfected following the biosecurity protocols given by the Health Ministry in Peru before and after every service. Inside our vehicles there will always be masks, hand sanitizer and a first-aid kit with oxygen masks, etc. in case any of our clients need them. We will only use 50% of the vehicle capacity in order to respect the social distancing requirements.

Transport

Transportation: All your transportation is included in this trek. You will be picked up directly from your hotel and brought to the start of the trek, to the trailhead. then enjoy your trek, on the last days, and you will be booked on the expedition train leaving that afternoon. If you prefer, you can upgrade your train leaving Aguas Calientes to the Vistadome train for $60 per person. Once you arrive at the train station, we will bring you back to your hotel in Cusco.

Insurance not included. Travel insurance is required for all of our tours. Travel and health insurance.(bring copies with you please): Quechuas Expeditions highly recommend to get an insurance of trip cancellation/interruption insurance to protect your travel investment. Included with your pre-departure package, bring your travel insurance to cover trip cancellation, interruption, baggage loss and delay, emergency medical evacuation insurance, and emergency medical expense insurance.

Not Included Rentals: Every trekker needs a sleeping bag when camping. walking sticks (with rubber tips) are optional but encouraged. If you donโ€™t want to bring any of the above, they are all available for rent: Sleeping Bag: (Goose down Mummy style): $30 Walking Poles: (Pair): $20 Personal Porter: US$75 (6kilos allowance to be carried by porter, and we will provide you a duffel bag a night before at the briefing time) Meals: Breakfast Day 1 & Lunch Day 4 Huayna Picchu: Huayna Picchu is the mountain that stands next to Machu Picchu. It is a 45 minute hike to the top. Going back down is quite steep, if you are scared of heights. This is done after your tour of Machu Picchu. The cost is $80 per person. Arrangements need to be made at least two month in advance(See availability), due to popularity. Since you are hiking the Inca Trail, you will experience a similar view from the Postcard site Please understand that weather is out of our control. Day packs: Day packs are not provided by Quechuas Expeditions. You must bring your own. Be sure you donโ€™t being anything too large, as you donโ€™t want it to be too heavy while youโ€™re Hiking. Plus, Machu Picchu will not allow you to bring in a bag larger than 25L, so if you have a large backpack it will need to be stored before your tour (We have a free storage). Only essentials are needed while trekking: water, snack, camera, sunhat, warm layer, rain layers, insect spray, sunscreen, and a Personal first-aid kit. Headlamps: It is strongly encouraged to bring a headlamp for your night camping. Flights: Flying to Cusco can be tricky. Delays occur often and it is not uncommon for flights to be cancelled. Please be sure to arrive in the city at least two days before your trek start date. LAN Peru is the most reliable of the airlines. SKY and JETSMART Airlines are acceptable companies, as well. You will not return from your trek until around 8 p.m. on the last day, so be sure your flight is not until the next day, when leaving Cusco. Entrance Fee to Hot Springs in Aguas Calientes Village Gratuities: Tipping is always appreciated and should be based completely on your satisfaction. Although it may not be customary to you, it is of considerable significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels. Travel Insurance: This is not required, but always recommended. For those of you who live at sea-level, landing in Cusco will take an adjustment period. Most people need one or two days to adjust. In case you have a hard time adjusting to the altitude, it is suggested to have protection for missed tours.

  • Day 1 Cusco โ€“ Piskacucho โ€“ Km 82 โ€“ Huayllabamba

      We will come and pick you up from your hotel (Between 4:30 am to 5:00 am) and leave from Cusco to start the Inca Trail.  We travel to Urubamba where we will stop briefly at Ollaytaytambo where you can buy last-minute gear and personal needing, then we move on to Piskacuchu (Km 82 โ€“ Trailhead) Inca Trail Control Point .and then we start our hike of Inca Trail to Huayllabamba(first campsite). along the Inca Trail, We will have lunch at Miskay (the first Inca Trail Village) and relax a bit before hiking to our first Inca Trail Archaeological site of Patallacta or Llactapata (the biggest Inca Trail Quechuan Site) after an explanation of your guide about Llactapata , you will keep going for 2 more hours to get Huayllabamba (first Inca Trail Camping spot 2900 m.a.s.l)

  • Day 2 Huayllabamba โ€“ Warmiwanusca โ€“ Pacaymayu

      We will start our Inca Trail day, early in the morning, just to take advantage of the shade of the mountains, because itโ€™s much better to hike up to the first Inca Trail passes (Warmihuaรฑusca which means dead woman pass 4200 m.a.s.l) the highest point of the Inca Trail. Here, we can see the various Inca Trail ecological zones and microclimates, which make up the area, mapped out in front of us. We will cross the Warmiwaรฑusca pass once we are on the top. we are going to see many snow-capped Mountains around and after we take group pictures we keep going down to Pacaymayo (second Inca Trail Campsite 3600 m.a.s.l) where we have our Lunch and then we will have a free afternoon to explore by ourselves.

      Second Day: Total distance: 12 km (approx.) Please, See we climb one pass only (Dead Woman Pass 4200 meters high) while Many operators are using a camping spot of Chaquicocha and passengers are forced to climb the 2nd pass of 3950 meters high) So 2 passes in one day.

      Campsite altitude(Pacaymayu): 3,650 m (aprox.)

      Places to see: Huayllabamba, Yunkachimpa, Tres pierdas, Llulluchapampa, Warmihuaรฑusca(Dead woman Pass), Pacaymayu.


  • Day 3 Pacaymayu โ€“ Chaquicocha โ€“ Winayhuayna

      Beautiful day to explore some Incan sites. After a nice breakfast, we will have a 45-minute hike up to Runcurakay Pass (the second highest pass on the Trail 3,850 m.a.s.l), and along the way, we will visit the Runcuracay archeological site. During the dayโ€™s hike, we will also visit the Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca incan archeological sites of the Inca Trail. After lunch, we will head to the Wiรฑaywayna incan site, where we will spend our last night on the Inca Trail, and then we will have a celebratory dinner to then say goodbye to our Inca Trail porters.

      Third day: Total distance: 16 km (approx.) We explore the Incan site along the Inca trail

  • Day 4 Winaywayna โ€“ Machupicchu โ€“ Cusco

      Inca Trail Important 4th Day After an early breakfast, we begin the final leg of the Inca Trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu. First, we will hike to Inti Punku (โ€œSun Gateโ€), the Gate of the Inca Trail where we will take in an inspiring and panoramic view of the Machu Picchu citadel. After a short hike down to Machu Picchu, we will register and then enjoy a 2-hours guided tour of the sanctuary city. After the tour of Machupicchu, there will be 


      free time to explore by yourself and you will stay almost all day and then after you will have to be in Aguas Calientes to take the train which is between 4:30 to 6:20 pm leaving from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and there will be a private bus back to Cusco and we will be arriving between 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm

      Fourth Day: Total distance: 7 km (approx.)

      Estimated walking time: 2 โ€“ 3 hours

      Maximum altitude point: 2,700 m (approx.)

      Places to see: Wiรฑayhuayna, Intipunku(Sungate), Machupicchu city, Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain(optional), Aguas Calientes or Machupicchu Town.
