Itinerary of your trip 3 Day Winter Package With Golden Circle, South Coast & Auror

  • Day 1 Northern Lights Tour
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Northern Lights Tour

Youโ€™ll join a 4-hour northern lights tour from Reykjavรญk. The mesmerizing dance of the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, stands as one of the worldโ€™s truly unparalleled wonders. Iceland emerges as a prominent destination for witnessing this natural spectacle, perfectly positioned on the cusp of the Arctic Circle for optimal northern lights sightings. Our Northern Lights Hunt in a small group setting offers an intimately tailored encounter, as there are fewer passengers accompanying each seasoned guide.

You will be able to move the northern lights tour to any evening during your stay. Youโ€™ll also get a free northern lights retry tour if you donยดt catch the lights on your first attempt. The retry tour will be by bus.

  • Day 2 Golden Circle & Friรฐheimar
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Golden Circle & Friรฐheimar

      Keriรฐ Crater

The second day of this winter package is to the Golden Circle. From Reykjavรญk weโ€™ll drive to the Keriรฐ Crater, which is estimated to have formed over 3000 years ago. The Keriรฐ volcanic crater presents a truly awe-inspiring spectacle. The astonishingly well-preserved caldera spans 170 meters in width and plummets to a depth of 55 meters. Nestled at the base of the crater lies a mesmerizing aquamarine lake. Guests exploring Keriรฐ have the option to observe this natural wonder from the rim or descend toward the waterโ€™s edge using a wooden staircase. Regardless of the chosen vantage point, the immense magnitude of Keriรฐ is undeniably impressive.

      ยญ

      Friรฐheimar Farm

Next, we will continue to Friรฐheimar farm, which boasts a dual reputation for its captivating greenhouse and well-regarded horse stables. Commencing your visit, youโ€™ll be introduced to the farmโ€™s renowned stables, where the distinctive Icelandic horse resides. These horses are distinguished by their compact size, robustness, and cheerful demeanor. Your hosts will provide a demonstration of the five distinct gaits that have contributed to the breedโ€™s fame. Icelandโ€™s renown for its geothermal resources and natural hot springs. A journey to Friรฐheimar farm illuminates how Icelanders have harnessed this eco-friendly energy for horticultural purposes. Inside the greenhouse, robust solar lamps nurture an assortment of tomato varieties that would otherwise struggle to thrive in Icelandโ€™s harsh climate, which is also well-known. An engaging and enlightening guided tour of the greenhouse will reveal the intricacies of this process. Following this, youโ€™ll savor the literal fruits of these endeavors before indulging in a leisurely lunch at your designated table. Itโ€™s important to note that the cost of lunch is not included in your tour package.

      ยญ

      Gullfoss Waterfall

Gullfoss, translating to the Golden Falls in English, stands as one of Icelandโ€™s most potent and remarkable waterfalls. Its grandeur is undeniable. Forming a segment of the Hvรญtรก River, Gullfoss is nourished by the glacier runoff from the expansive Langjรถkull glacier in the north. During the winter months, when glacier melt is minimal or absent, the falls receive a flow of 80 cubic meters per second. As the vibrant summer arrives, this volume surges dramatically to an astounding 140 cubic meters per second. The spray emanating from the waterfall possesses the ability to touch you from afar โ€“ a small concession to experience the awe-inspiring might of nature. The splendor of witnessing such power is well worth this ephemeral encounter with the elements.

      ยญ

      Geysir Hot Springs

The term "geyser" is possibly the sole English word directly borrowed from Icelandic, and its origin leads us to our subsequent attraction: the Geysir geothermal area. Nestled within the Haukadalur valley, the original Geysir no longer erupts autonomously, necessitating human intervention. Yet, its younger counterpart, Strokkur, guarantees a captivating performance. Strokkurโ€™s eruptions occur at intervals of 5 to 10 minutes, captivating onlookers. The anticipation builds as Strokkur simmers and stirs, culminating in a thrilling eruption of scalding water and steam that reaches heights of up to 20 meters. Beyond the spectacle of Strokkur, visitors can explore various footpaths that lead to witnessing the simmering depths of hot springs and the billowing steam vents for which the park is renowned.

      ยญ

      รžingvellir National Park

The final stop for the day is at the iconic Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has earned its distinction due to its profound geological and historical significance. Nestled within a rift valley that demarcates the meeting point of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Thingvellir provides a remarkable insight into the forces that shape our planet. The ongoing phenomenon of continental drift is visibly evident here, as these colossal plates gradually separate by an astonishing 2 centimeters annually. This continuous movement has sculpted a captivating and unparalleled landscape. The Almannagjรก canyon, positioned between the plates, grants visitors the unique opportunity to leisurely amble between two separate continents. Notably, Thingvellir served as the inaugural location for the Icelandic Althingi, the worldโ€™s oldest uninterrupted parliamentary assembly. Established in 930 AD, the Althingi convened here, bringing together the descendants of the earliest settlers who convened annually to resolve disputes. Chieftains embarked on extensive journeys of days or even weeks to represent their respective regions or tribes. This assembly persisted at this site until 1798, when the Althingi was relocated to Reykjavรญk. Having explored the park on foot, our journey circles back to Reykjavรญk. Here, guests are dropped off at designated hotels and bus stops, concluding our enriching adventure.

  • Day 3 South Coast
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      South Coast

      Skรณgafoss Waterfall

Our dayโ€™s journey commences at the striking Skรณgafoss waterfall. Cascading from ancient coastal cliffs, this waterfall boasts an impressive height of 60 meters and presents a backdrop featuring the Eyjafjallajรถkull volcano. The sheer magnitude of the descent renders the Skรณgafoss a mesmerizing spectacle, exuding an extraordinary force. Guests have the privilege of encountering the falls from two distinct vantage points. At ground level, you can approach the waterโ€™s edge as closely as your comfort allows, truly immersing yourself in its potency. For those seeking an adventure brimming with energy, there exists a moderately challenging ascent comprising 527 steps, leading to an elevated viewing platform atop the falls. From this vantage, a panoramic birdโ€™s-eye perspective unfolds, encompassing the realm below and granting glimpses of the northern highlands, including Fimmvรถrduhals and Thorsmork.

      ยญ

      Vรญk Coastal Village

Situated eastward from Skรณgarfoss, the picturesque village of Vรญk graces the landscape. This charming hamlet is renowned for its quaint church and the captivating vistas of the Reynisdrangur sea rock formations. Despite its small dimensions, Vรญk extends a warm haven for travel-worn wanderers to rejuvenate and regain their vitality. Moreover, it serves as an excellent opportunity to procure locally crafted keepsakes, encapsulating the essence of your Icelandic sojourn. A mere few minutesโ€™ stroll from the village, a serene pathway leads to the Vรญk black sand beach. Here, youโ€™ll be granted an intimate encounter with the Reynisdrangar Sea-Stacks, a sight that the more mystical among the locals attribute to petrified trolls.

      ยญ

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and Reynisdrangar Cliffs

Reynisfjaraโ€™s black sand beach stands as an iconic marvel of Icelandโ€™s natural wonders. Recognized by National Geographic as one of the planetโ€™s finest non-tropical shorelines, this beach showcases ebony sands, shaped by the ceaseless interaction with volcanic rocks worn by the sea. Alongside this spectacle, visitors encounter the enigmatic and otherworldly basalt column wallโ€”an Icelandic tradition to ascend these columns for a picturesque pose. A captivating cave graces this shoreline as well, serving as a splendid backdrop for wedding photographs, and itโ€™s not difficult to see why. This spot provides an alternate viewpoint of both Reynisfjara and Dyrhรณlaey. However, exercise caution as you navigate this area, for the creeping waves can be unpredictable. Your guideโ€™s safety instructions are invaluable in this context. Given the often untamed and wind-swept nature of the surroundings, ensuring you are appropriately attired in warm clothing is of utmost importance.

      ยญ

      Sรณlheimajรถkull Glacier

Sรณlheimajรถkull, an outlet glacier extending from the expansive Mรฝrdalsjรถkull icecap to the north, offers a compelling insight into the effects of climate change. This glacier tongue, stretching 8km from its parent icecap, not only presents stunning panoramic vistas but also stark evidence of environmental shifts. The entire region holds an allure of otherworldliness, where time-honored ice is unveiled anew with each passing year. However, due to the glacierโ€™s ongoing melt and retreat, what used to be a brief stroll to the glacier has transformed into a 20-minute walk. Remarkably, between 2000 and 2015, the glacier retreated almost 1km. This accelerated thawing has etched intriguing features into the landscape, including moraines, steep mountains, sizable boulders, and a modest glacier lagoon. The iceโ€™s captivating hue undergoes a dynamic transformation, often displaying a distinctive blue tint following rainfall. The vast expanse of the area grants visitors a glimpse into the transformative power these colossal glaciers have exerted over the terrain across the years.

      ยญ

      Seljalandsfoss Waterfall

An Instagram sensation, Seljalandsfoss takes the spotlight for its renowned pathway that winds around and even behind the cascading waterfall. This captivating waterfall, standing 60 meters tall, holds a magnetic allure and ranks among Icelandโ€™s most frequently visited falls. The water that fuels this magnificent spectacle originates from the (in)famous Eyjafjallajรถkull glacier-capped volcano. Just a short distance away, a mere few hundred meters from Seljalandsfoss, lies one of Icelandโ€™s concealed treasures: Gljรบfrabuรญ waterfall.

      ยญ

As with the entire dayโ€™s itinerary, donning a raincoat and sturdy footwear is a must. Venturing behind the waterfall guarantees getting wet, so itโ€™s wise to be well-prepared. As we draw our day to a close, Seljalandsfoss serves as our final destination of the day. We commence our leisurely drive back to the city and drop you off in the late afternoon.
