Transport
Transport is by 15-seater minibus, ferry and Zodiac. Most of the roads are in very good condition. The longest driving day will be about four hours when we travel from Tofino to Campbell River. We have tried to keep travelling to a minimum on this trip, although most days involve some driving due to the distances covered. Private transfers are available on this trip or alternatively it is easy to organise a taxi from the airport to the start hotel. This should cost in the region of $50 CAD (GBP 30).
Accommodation
Accommodation on this trip has been selected for its excellent location and warm, Canadian hospitality. Below are the properties that we usually use on this itinerary. Vancouver (two nights): The Listel Hotel is located in the city's West End area. Noted for its collections of limited edition and original artwork, the hotel provides a culture-rich stay in Vancouver. It also has a celebrated restaurant in Forage, which has a keen focus on sustainable dining. Nanaimo (one night): Travelodge by Wyndham Nanaimo and Coast Bastion Hotel are both close to the ferry terminal and the city centre, allowing for a smooth journey from Vancouver to Vancouver Island. Ucluelet (three nights): Either Black Rock Oceanfront Resort or Canadian Princess Lodge & Marina. These are both four-star properties in the small town of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island's west coast. Campbell River (three nights): Close to the Elk Falls Suspension Bridge, Painter's Lodge is a completely non-smoking hotel, where we stay in garden view rooms overlooking the grounds.
