Guide

All Intrepid Family trips are accompanied by one of our group leaders. The aim of the group leader is to assist your family to take the hassle out of your travels and help you have the best trip possible. Your leader will provide information on the places you are travelling through, offer suggestions for fun things to do and see - for both kids and parents, recommend great local eating venues that will even get the kids trying new things, and introduce you to our local friends. While not being guides in the traditional sense you can expect them to have a broad general knowledge of the countries visited on the trip, including historical, cultural, religious and social aspects. Our leaders are not babysitters on this trip - we leave that to you (the experts), but they will make sure that group members of all ages are able to explore their destination safely and with as much fun as possible. Our group leaders are not responsible for looking after children at any time and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times throughout this itinerary.

Accommodation

The style of accommodation indicated in the day-to-day itinerary is a guideline only and may change. On some occasions, alternative arrangements may need to be made due to the lack of availability of rooms in our preferred accommodation. In these cases, we will use a similar standard of accommodation. Throughout the trip, we request that our properties prepare rooms in time for our arrival, especially if weโ€™re arriving prior to normal check-in time. However, this isnโ€™t always possible which means we wonโ€™t be able to check-in immediately on arrival at some hotels. Instead, we can store our luggage and explore our new destination or on some trips, have use of shared day rooms until all rooms are available. GENERAL ROOMING CONFIGURATIONS: Family of two: All family groupings of two will be accommodated in a twin room. Family of three: Wherever possible we will put you in a triple room. Please be aware that in some places triple rooms are in short supply. This means that a triple room will often be a twin room with a rollaway bed or mattress on the floor. Where triple rooms arenโ€™t available it will be at your discretion which of your family takes the single room. Family of four or more: You will most likely be accommodated in two twin rooms. Where possible, we will accommodate your family in a quadruple room. While we do our very best to ensure that family groups are roomed close together (in some cases, we can arrange adjoining rooms), we canโ€™t guarantee this. Most family holidays occur during peak season and we sometimes have little to no control over the exact placement of rooms within a hotel. Please be understanding if we are unable to room your family in immediate proximity of one another. Hotel (6 nights), Gite (1 night)

Itinerary of your trip Morocco Family Holiday

  • Day 1 Day 1: Marrakech
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Marrakech

Salaam Aleikum! Welcome to Morocco. Marrakech is a feast for the senses, a world of spice markets, Amazigh music, carpets, delectable foods, acrobats and perfumed gardens. You can arrive at any time today as there are no activities planned until your group meeting at 5 pm. If you have an arrival transfer booked, please look for a representative with an Intrepid Travel sign when you arrive at the airport. Your hotel is located just outside the city walls around the old medina. It is about a 30-minute walk to the main square, Djemaa el-Fna (or a short calesh/taxi ride). Itโ€™s also near a lot of local shops and restaurants. Settle in and relax.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Aroumd
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Aroumd

Todayโ€™s adventure begins with a drive over the impressive High Atlas Mountains to the village of Imlil, the largest village in the Mizane Valley. You will store your main luggage here, before continuing on foot to the traditional mountain village of Aroumd with your daypack. If you donโ€™t feel comfortable with the walk, your leader can arrange a mule for you to ride instead. Perched on a rocky outcrop, the remote village of Aroumd offers stunning views across the High Atlas Mountains and a unique opportunity to experience traditional Amazigh culture. Spend tonight in a family-run mountain home (gite) in Aroumd. Surrounded by the smell of woodstoves and bread, meet the host family and enjoy traditional hospitality and food.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Taroudant
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Taroudant

This morning youโ€™ll have a bread cooking demonstration for breakfast and maybe an early morning walk around the village of Imlil. Transfer to Taroudant, passing through some Amazigh villages and across the high Altas mountains via the Tizi n Tast which gives you a great view of the largest plain of Sous. Arriving to your accommodation in the late afternoon, you will be able to enjoy a swim in the pool or simply relax for the evening.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Taroudant
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Taroudant

Today after breakfast, take a fun donkey ride through the picturesque oasis of Tiout. This is not your average city tour โ€“ by exploring the gorgeous oasis on the back of a donkey, youโ€™ll be immersed in the local way of life and travel as the locals do. Kids and adults alike will delight in the unique experience of riding through the oasis and passing by friendly villagers along the way. The oasis is full of palm trees and streams of running water, giving an exotic atmosphere full of beautiful sights, smells and sounds. By hiring these donkeys and their guides, youโ€™ll be directly supporting the local community and ensuring that the animals are well taken care of, providing ample food and shelter. After your tour, join a local woman in her home for a traditional homemade lunch. From the mouth-watering fresh breads to the locally sourced ingredients (like succulent goat meat, a variety of veggies and flavourful olive and argan oil), every bite will take you on a journey of the senses. Not only will this authentic culinary experience leave you feeling full and happy, but it also supports the local community by providing income for the talented women in the village who prepare the meal with love and care. Your afternoon is free to relax or explore.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Essaouira
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 5: Essaouira

After breakfast this morning, youโ€™ll travel up the coast to Sidi Kaouki. Mount a camel and take in the view as the waves crash along the shore line, taking in the awesome scenery as you plod along. This may well be one of the highlights of your trip. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach, then board the bus again and head to Essaouira. This delightful artistsโ€™ town is a former Portuguese trading colony and was once home to sizeable British and Jewish populations. The town faces a group of rocky islands called the Mogador and is surrounded by an expanse of sandy beaches and dunes. Itโ€™s still a busy fishing port, and its pretty harbour is filled with tiny colourful fishing boats which go out early every morning.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Essaouira
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 6: Essaouira

Today is free for you to explore Essaouira as you please. Everything in the small centre is within walking distance, and the beach is nice and clean, great for strolling along. Why not wander the harbour and its adjacent fish markets where you can witness the daily auction. A fresh-cooked plate of the dayโ€™s catch is highly recommended. Perhaps browse some of the many shops and art galleries where unique local pieces are on display. The town is becoming renowned for its burled Thuya wood, delicately formed and inlaid in tiny shops. The scent from the oils used to polish the richly coloured wood permeates the air and makes walking through the streets incredibly pleasant.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Marrakech
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 7: Marrakech

Leaving Essaouira behind, journey inland to Marrakech. Enjoy an afternoon walking tour of the city centre, taking in the main sights on your way to the sprawling Djemaa el-Fna main square and souq. As is usual in a souq, individual trades and crafts are concentrated in one street or area, so the shoemakers are all next to each other, as are the jewellers, potters and weavers. This is the best place in Morocco to sharpen your bargaining skills, and you are almost certain to be tempted by some of the extraordinary variety of merchandise on display โ€“ perhaps a pair of traditional Moroccan slippers or some spices. The market almost has the atmosphere of a medieval fair. Fortune tellers and jugglers are among those who vie to entertain you. In the evening, wonderful smells waft by as food stalls cook up their local delicacies.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Marrakech
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 8: Marrakech

Your trip comes to an end this morning. There are no activities planned for the final day and you are free to depart the accommodation at any time.
