Itinerary of your trip Everest Three High Passes Trek 18 Days

  • Day 1 Kathmandu- Lukla- Phakding 2652M, 3 Hours Trekking
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Kathmandu- Lukla- Phakding 2652M, 3 Hours Trekking

In the early morning, we take the spectacular flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2827m), flying parallel to the Himalayan giants bordering Nepal and Tibetan China. Flight time is about 40 minutes to the airstrip built by Sir Edmund Hillary and the Sherpas in the mid-1960s. After landing we will have time to explore the village while the Sherpa crew sort and load the trekking equipment. In the afternoon, we begin the trek by descending towards the DudhKosi River, where we join the main trail to Namche Bazaar, just above Chaunrikharka (2713m). The walking is easy and after passing through the small village of Ghat (2550m), it is a short distance to Phakding.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner

  • Day 2 Phakding- Namche Bazaar 3446M 7 Hours Trekking
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Phakding- Namche Bazaar 3446M 7 Hours Trekking

From Phakding we cross the river and head up the Dudhakosi valley following fellow assistants from the south, ferrying supplies to Namche. The trail keeps close to the river valley and is lined with beautiful blue pine and rhododendron forest that is very spectacular in the spring months when the flowers are in bloom. We cross the DudhKosi at Benkar where there are tantalizing glimpses of the snow peaks KusumKanguru (6369m) and Thamserku (6623m). From here it is only a short walk to Monjo (2835m) where we arrive in time for lunch. We spend the night in Monjo with the afternoon free, with the opportunity to do some exploring around the village. The day has been deliberately kept short to aid acclimatization, a very important process.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner

  • Day 3 Namche Bazaar Hike
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Namche Bazaar Hike

We remain at Namche for a second night to allow for proper acclimatization to the altitude. Namche is a prosperous village, situated in a large, protected hollow. It gained its importance during the period when Tibetan salt was traded for the lowland grains of Nepal. Today a limited amount of trade exists at Namche, and Tibetans are often seen in the village trading rugs and Chinese-made goods, clothing, salt, and dried meat.โ€จIt is recommended that you take the opportunity to see both the sunrise and sunset views from the National Park Headquarters above the village. The view is stunning with a superb panorama of the Khumbu peaks and great views of Everest. After breakfast, there is a variety of options: perhaps a walk towards Thame (3810m) above the beautiful BhoteKhola river valley or a visit to the National Park Headquarters to see the interesting displays of Sherpa lifestyle and culture. There is also a mountaineering display and details of the parkโ€™s flora and fauna. Your guides will be on hand to offer advice and escort you on your walks.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner

  • Day 4 Namche Bazaar- Tengboche 3,860M, 5 Hours Trekking
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Namche Bazaar- Tengboche 3,860M, 5 Hours Trekking

When you wake up in Namche Bazaar, you are greeted by a refreshing morning view. We then hike toward higher altitudes after breakfast. As we trek up to Tengboche (3,850m), we pass through verdant forests and pass Himalayan Thar, as well as pheasant flocks. Our next stop is Sansa, a place where trekkers meet at two different intersections a trip to Gokyo Lake and a classic Everest trek which is part of our Itinerary. In order to reach Phunki Thenga for lunch, we will have to cross a bridge decorated with numerous Buddhist prayer flags. Following a few extra steps, trekkers reach Tengboche village, which is famous for its Buddhist monastery, which is the largest in the entire Khumbu region. Spend the night at Tengboche.

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee

  • Day 5 Tengboche- Dingboche 3900M
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Tengboche- Dingboche 3900M

From Tengboche, we descend through the lower ridge of Diboche and Imja Khola. Along the way keep an eye open for Blood and Danphe Pheasant, Musk Deer, and, high on the steep slopes of the valley, the Himalayan Thar. Gradually ascend & descend to the village of Pangboche where the peak of Ama Dablam dominates the skyline. We will take lunch here and perhaps view the beautiful monastery that once housed the legendary Yeti scalp. In the afternoon our route ascends gradually, high above the Imja Khola, passing the tea houses at Orsho before crossing the ImjaKhola and old glacial moraines to our lodge in the settlement of Dingboche.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee

  • Day 6 Dingboche 4300M- Chhukung
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Dingboche 4300M- Chhukung

From Dingboche, we head up through the village, following the ImjaKhola valley. The ascent is gradual, crossing small streams, through open alpine pastures with fine views of Island Peak at the head of the valley. We will reach the Chukhung lodge in time for lunch, with the afternoon free to rest and acclimatize. If you feel energetic enough, you can head up the valley towards the old moraines that flow down from Lhotse. The views of the massive Lhotse Wall and AmaDablam are particularly impressive hereabouts. โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee

  • Day 7 Chhukung- Kongma La 5535M- Lobuche 4940M, 6 - 7 Hrs
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Chhukung- Kongma La 5535M- Lobuche 4940M, 6 - 7 Hrs

Early breakfast and an early start are necessary today, as not only do we have to cross Kongma la La, but we also have to make the long descent to reach Lobuche. Continuing up the valley, we cross a ridge and an old lateral moraine, before beginning the rocky scramble to the pass. From the pass, there are excellent views across to the Rolwaling Valley in the west and AmaDablam to the southeast. The descent from the pass involves the crossing of a small glacier, often covered in snow however but is fairly straightforward. There are excellent views of AmaDablam and the forbidding north face of Cholatse as we descend to the pastures below. The way to Lobuche contours the grassy slopes above a lake, TsholaTsho, to join up with the main Everest trail from Pheriche and Thyangboche. The trail flattens out and follows the valley on the west side of the Khumbu Glacier to Lobuche.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.โ€จโ€จ

  • Day 8 Lobuche- Gorak Shep 5160Mโ€“ Everest Base Camp Back To Gorek Shep
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Lobuche- Gorak Shep 5160Mโ€“ Everest Base Camp Back To Gorek Shep

To reach our next stop, Kala Pattar, we follow the Khumbu Glacier. The trail offers superb views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path is forced to rise to cross a tributary glacier. We stop for lunch at our overnight place Gorakshep.  As the light begins to fade we stroll back to our camp at Gorak Shep and have an early night in preparation for our trek to Everest Base Camp the following day. โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

  • Day 9 Everest Base Camp Hike
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Everest Base Camp Hike

A very early start is required to reach the Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, we can take a higher route to get a spectacular view of the Khumbu icefall and the route to the South Col. We to return to either Gorak Shep.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

  • Day 10 Gorak Shep- Kala Patthar- Dzongla 4830M3 - 7 Hrs
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Gorak Shep- Kala Patthar- Dzongla 4830M3 - 7 Hrs

Early in the morning, we make our way to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Pattar [5554m]. As we retrace our steps to Lobuche and towards Dzongla 4830m after breakfast. Our hikes today will be pretty cool in comparison to other days. The path to Dzongla branches off from the main trail some distance from Lobuche. After crossing a stream we come through a fork and later curve around to the wide gravelly river bed of the stream. As it flows southwestward, the trail runs across it and climbs the ridge ahead. From the grassy ridge ahead, as the trail runs across to the southeast where we can see the soaring heights of AmaDablam and Kangtega-Thamserku while Taboche looms prominently ahead. Pheriche village is visible down in the distance. We will also have visibility of mound in ChukpiLhara and its memorials and the lodges of Dugla. As the ridge veers northward, the vast Chola Lake spreads below Mt. Cholatse. The lake stays with us over a long stretch until we descend to a wide basin. The trail climbs up a spur and descends steeply to another broad basin. After an hour walk transverse from the basin and shortly after crossing a wobbly bridge, we reach Dzongla. We spend the night in one of the local lodges at Dzongla (the lodges available at Dzongla are more or less basic)โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

  • Day 11 Dzongla- Chola 5368M- Thagnak 4680M 7 - 8 Hrs
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Dzongla- Chola 5368M- Thagnak 4680M 7 - 8 Hrs

Early morning as we move out of our lodge, we will be greeted by the thrilling sight of Cholatse looming tall over us. Today is going to be one of the toughest days of our trip. The walk begins as we transverse through a spur extending westward from Dzongla. The path descends to a basin across which meanders a murmuring stream crusted with ice at places. In about an hour, we reach the top of the basin readying for the triumph on Chola. As we gain height, the view back gets increasingly more captivating; the Chola Lake begins to appear and the AmaDablam in its pyramidal incarnation presides over a range of mountains on the south as Cholatse soars on the west. Climbing the incline is not easy; it is steep, but made worse by boulders over some of which we will have to scramble. We need to be alert as rocks can be glazed by ice. The final climb to the ChoLa can be a little tricky as the trail curves round the bergschrund. Upon reaching the top, we see prayer flags strung across cairns, flapping in the strong wind. Scenery of majestic peaks in all directions is breathtaking. Although long, the path leading down to Thagnak can be easily made out from the pass because it looks ok but can be hazardous if rocks are glazed by ice, a bit of cautiousness is needed. We reach Thagnak, a rather more considerable hamlet with a small village. Stepping out of the settlement, we are greeted by fabulous mountain views. The trail brings us to the Ngozumpa glacier edge after short walk, which is longest glacier in Nepal. Reaching the other side of the glacier, we get view of the second of the Gokyo lakes on the series of six lakes. A short distance away is the third Gokyo Lake. Overnight at Thagnak.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

  • Day 12 Thangnak- Gokyo 4790M
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Thangnak- Gokyo 4790M

We cross the glacier and ascend the lateral moraine valley past beautiful lakes with Siberian ducks swimming across the mirror-calm surface to the village of Gokyo. Today is an easy day and for those with the energy levels a sunset walk to the summit of Gokyo Ri (5400m) may be in order, for those not so inclined we will make the climb early the next morning. Overnight lodge Gokyo.โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

  • Day 13 Gokyo Rest And Exploration
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Gokyo Rest And Exploration

An early start is best for the opportunities that the early morning views offer. The steady and unrelenting ascent of Gokyo Ri will take around two hours. You will be elated when you reach the summit with its spectacular view. Probably the most comprehensive view of 8,000-meter peaks in Nepal, many people consider it to be Nepalโ€™s best. Surrounding us are Cho Oyu (8153 m), (a mountain that defeated a British Expedition of climbers, including Hillary, in their lead-up to their successful assault on Everest), Gyangchung Kang (7922 m), Lhotse (8501 m), Makalu (8475 m), Cholatse (6440 m), Taweche (6542 m), Kantega (6685 m), Thamserku (6808 m), Lobuche (6145 m) and Mt Everest (8848 m). Hundreds of other unnamed peaks fill the scene, whilst below us the Ngozumba Glacier, the largest in Nepal, stretches through the valley. The striking color of the lakes below completes the picture. The only way to get a better view of the entire Everest region would be to climb an 8,000 metre peak! โ€จ

Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinner with tea/coffee.

      Thame 3805Mโ€“ Namche- Manjo

A side trip to Lawudo Gompa (3790m), affiliated with the renowned Kopan Gompa in Kathmandu, tucked away above Thamo and Mende villages. After a steep descent to the Bhote Kosi, which we cross on a high bridge over a narrow canyon, we take an alternative (and rarely used by trekkers) trail which climbs steeply to the small gompa where Guru Rimpoche meditated in a small cave en route to Tibet. The monk or Ani (nun) staying in this magical retreat will inevitably treat us to tea while we take in the spectacular views from the gompa steps. Khumbila, the sacred Sherpa peak, looms overhead, prayer flags from the gompa providing the perfect Himalayan foreground. The local monk, NawangChhuldim, assured Kim that this was one of the most beautiful spots in the Khumbu when she first happened upon this isolated gompa, far from the main trail. The cave the famous Rimpoche used has been turned into a tiny cave chapel, and there is a eclectic in-house library. Kim has a book on the gompa, so ask for a look if you want some more history .โ€จWeโ€™ll have lunch with Lhakpaโ€™s mother and sister in Mende, picnic style. Potato pancakes will be on the menu for sure, a Sherpa specialty. From Mende, we drop steeply to the trail and trek for an hour and a half, contouring high above the river, to Namche for Lunch. From Namche the trail descends rapidly to the floor of the DudhKosi Valley and our lodge at Manjo.โ€จ
