The path descends into a broad valley where the Marsyangdi River winds gently through. The village of Tal, located on the riverbank, is just 15 minutes away. Continuing for approximately 7.3 km (4.5 miles) from Tal, we arrive at Dharapani, named for the water tap where travelers once collected water for their journey. Opposite Dharapani, on the east bank, a magnificent waterfall cascades from the Dana Khola, fed by the Tulagi Glacier of the Manaslu range, into the Marsyangdi River.

Leaving Dharapani, the trail follows the right bank of the Marsyangdi River. A stairway leads us up to the village gateway, or kani, of Bagarchhap. From there, a half-hour climb through forested slopes brings us to Danaque, where the eighth highest peak, Manaslu, is visible to the east, while Lamjung Himal is seen to the west. Continuing, we pass through the villages of Timang, Thanchok, and Koto Qupar. Koto Qupar offers stunning views of Manaslu to the east, and Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal to the southeast. As we proceed towards Chame, impressive rock formations on the opposite bank of the Naar River come into view. Chame, the largest settlement after Besi Sahar, features a long, roofed mani wall adorned with prayer wheels dividing the road. From Chame, Lamjung Himal dominates the southern skyline, while Manaslu is visible to the east.

As we descend, we pass a mani and soon arrive at Bharatang village. Beyond Bharatang, we reach Dhukure Pokhari, a picturesque spot with a lake nestled in the woods. Another charming lake is about 15 minutes farther, with the forest starting to thin out. After the lake, the trail passes a helipad as we near Pisang. On the hill across the river are the grey-brown houses of Upper Pisang, resembling clusters of bird nests. Above, Pisang Peak (6,091m/19,985ft) towers, and to the south rises Annapurna II (7,937m/26,041ft), the worldโ€™s 16th highest peak. Pisang village is just 15 minutes from the gateway. The path to Upper Pisang ascends the slope clearly visible from Pisang after crossing the Marsyangdi River bridge.

The trail climbs to a saddle that separates the Pisang and Manang valleys. From this vantage, we can spot the village of Ngawal with its distinctive yellow-roofed gompa nestled between jagged cliffs. The path then continues straight through the village to Humde, where we enjoy spectacular mountain views. Pisang Peak presents a striking pyramid shape, while Annapurna III dominates the southwest horizon.

After 1km, we cross the Marsyangdi River on a wooden bridge and arrive at Mungji. A little over 2km further, a sign directs us south to Milarepaโ€™s cave. Soon after, we reach the gateway to Braga, where a visit to Braga Gompa is a must, taking about an hour. Manang is just 1.5km (0.9 miles) from Braga, offering a panoramic view that is breathtaking on clear days. Even on overcast days, Manangโ€™s charm is undeniable. Leaving Tatopani, most trekkers head up to Ghorepani. For those short on time, a quicker exit follows through Beni. Whichever path you choose, two suspension bridges await: first over the Kali Gandaki River, then across the Ghar Khola.

The climb from Ghar Khola leads to Ghara, a peaceful village at 1700 meters (5610 ft) with a non-touristy vibe. Leaving Gharaโ€™s farmlands behind, the trail winds along the basin rim, offering beautiful valley views. Sikha, with its sprawling terraced fields, sits 1940 meters (6402 ft) further up. Tea houses pepper the route, perfect for rest stops while soaking in the scenery. As you gain altitude, the mountains become even more impressive. Phalate and Chitre villages lie ahead, followed by a secluded climb through rhododendron, birch, and magnolia forests. An hour-long, pre-dawn climb takes us up a steep path to Poon Hill. Despite the frosty chill, the reward is a panoramic vista unlike any other. Southwards, the plains stretch endlessly, while northwesterly to northeasterly, a stunning line of peaks unfolds, from Dhaulagiri to Manaslu. Poon Hill boasts views of three giants: Dhaulagiri I (worldโ€™s 7th highest), Manaslu, and Annapurna (10th). After soaking in this unforgettable sight, we descend towards Pokhara for our final nightโ€™s stay.
